  • Family-run farm site with fab Corfe Castle and Purbeck Hills views
  • Spacious pitches a 10-minute drive from Swanage and Wareham
  • A five-minute walk to Harman’s Cross steam railway train station
Dawdle down Dorset way for a dreamy break at the fab family-run Purbeck Valley Farm. This park is a champion choice for its location – it’s in an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty a 10-minute drive away from both the inland town of Wareham and Swanage at the coast. Plus it also has gorgeous views… Corfe Castle and the pretty Purbeck Hills are visible from the pitches and you can wander directly towards these destinations via local footpaths and bridleways. Harman’s Cross train station is a five-minute stroll for steam rail trips to Swanage and Corfe Castle (pre-booking essential). Is it lunchtime yet? To get eats on the go, stick around Corfe Castle and order food in a local pub or stock up on ingredients at the shop and garage a couple of minutes’ drive from the site before cooking over coals by your pitch (barbecues are allowed). Another wise option when it comes to nourishment is to pack food in a picnic hamper and take it towards one of several sandy beaches within a 30-minute drive, such as Studland (15 minutes), Swanage (10 minutes), Lulworth Cove (half an hour) or Durdle Door (half an hour). Back on base as evening draws in, lounge on your spacious pitch or use the time to organise yourself using the park's essential facilities, including toilets, showers, a washing-up area and recycling bins.

Non-electric grass tent pitch

Liked: Lovely and clean toilets and nice warm showers.
Washing up facilities were lovely but are cold water.

Lovely view of corfe castle from the top field. I stayed on the bottom field so had no view, but it was lovely and peaceful. And let's be honest, it's not like anyone's whole trip is gonna hinge on seeing the castle from their tent 😂.

Staff were lovely and friendly, you need to phone when you get their to check in, this was nice and efficient and there is a large sign on the gate as you go in with the phone number on.

Staff also come around in the evening if you want to rent a fire pit or buy fire wood.

There's lots to do nearby too. Corfe castle, monkey world, tank museum and lots of beaches too all within a 20 minute drive.

I really liked it here and will be coming back.

Disliked: Pitches were quite slanted, but as it's pick your own pitch i could've put the effort in to set up somewhere flatter.

Toilet lights only come on when its very dark outside, so in the evenings, before the lights turn on it can be very dark in the loos. Easily solvable by bringing a torch though.

Non-electric grass tent pitch

Liked: I particularly liked the peace and quiet of this camping spot.
At a few minutes walk, one can spot the Corfe Casle in the distance, a nice picture opportunity!

I also appreciate the facilities: clean toilets and showers, hot water, a dish washing spot. What else can I wish for?

I will be back!

Non-electric grass motorhome pitch

Liked: a quiet site with qite a few options to pitch up, very near to getting the lovely steam train to swanage

Disliked: a lot of the site was at a bit of an angle so drove around for a bit to find somewhere a bit flatter to park the camper van but it was great when we found it. it could have done with a few more toilets dotted around maybe as well as bins and taps for drinking water etc

Non-electric grass motorhome pitch

Liked: Location is great, views of Corfe Castle & the Stream train when it passes.

Showers were good and hot with hot water never running out.

Easy short walk across the fields to Harman Cross station on the Swanage Railway line.

Nice traffic free walk across the fields into Corfe Castle

Quiet campsite - you can hear the road in the day, but it wasn't really noticeable at night & we were in the field closest to the road - if you are in the field beyond the first one I doubt you'll notice it.

Disliked: Washing up is cold water only - just boil some and take it with you is what I did!

If in a camper van you will need chocks as the camping areas are sloping (I've clearly been too spoilt with flat camp grounds it seems!)

Liked: - Location
- Size of fields to choose from
- Views of Corfe castle from the top of the field.

Disliked: - Having to phone the owners on arrival......but no answer.
- No indication as to what facilities we could and couldn't use until last day when we had been using the 'couldn't use as they were for land and wave people only facilities'.
- Owner not very talkative and didn't welcome us to her site. Just took my name and number plate and drove off.

Non-electric grass tent pitch

Liked: My friend and I stayed here on the Friday night ahead of the Dorset Gravel Dash, and it turned out to be a good choice. The campsite is basic, but it has everything you really need with clean facilities, and a peaceful rural setting.

We chose this spot mainly for its excellent location as it's just a short car journey from the Square and Compass, which was the starting point for the Gravel Dash. That proximity made our early start on Saturday much smoother.

The price was another big plus: good value for a single pitch for two people for one night, especially compared to other options in the area. It’s not a luxury setup, but it does exactly what it says on the tin, and that’s all we were after.

If you're looking for a no-frills, well-located base for the Dorset Gravel Dash or just a night or two in the Purbeck countryside, this place is definitely worth considering.

Disliked: Not much, if anything at all. Tom (the person I was staying with) mentioned that the showers were good, albeit on the cool side for his liking, but frankly, we are being very picky mentioning this.

Local attractions

If you’re in Dorset for a beach break but fancy seeking out quieter shores than the particularly popular Durdle Door and Lulworth Cove (half an hour’s drive), check out Winspit Quarry, Seacombe Cliff and Chapmans Pool (15 minutes). All are easily reached via Worth Matravers (10 minutes), a village with an award-winning pub. Poole (half an hour) tends to be a little busier but is worth bustling towards for a look at the big natural harbour and Georgian-era old town, while Swanage (10 minutes) is a must for its views of the spectacular chalk-white cliffs. For countryside tours once you’re done with the coast, check out the atmospheric ruins of Corfe Castle close to the site (35 minutes’ walk), then drive to the RSPB Arne nature reserve for a bit of birdwatching. Organised days out at family-friendly attractions more your bag? Peer at the primates in Monkey World (20 minutes), amble among the armoured machines at the Tank Museum in Bovington (25 minutes) and chug through the countryside old-school style on the Swanage steam railway.
