  • Peaceful secluded park over a 30-acre wildlife haven
  • Bournemouth and Christchurch 20 minutes' drive
  • Woodlands walks, pitch and putt, library and boules all available
Spread over 30 acres of Dorset woodland, river, heathland and lakes, Back of Beyond meanders over countryside naturally inhabited by a wide variety of wildlife: look out for deer, squirrels, moles, rabbits and the soaring sights of birds including the resident woodpecker. The site is dog friendly too (apart from in one of the wildlife-laden accommodation areas) and there's a 10-acre woodland area set aside especially for canines. Restful pastimes include boules, woodland walks, and a five-acre nine-hole pitch and putt course among the squirrels, moles and rabbits (hire the necessary bits and pieces on site). Facilities here include heated toilet and shower blocks, a private disabled shower room, hairdryers, washing-up areas, a reception area, Monty's Bar and a shop. Essential supplies (food and beer) can be found at the two excellent pubs within walking distance; supermarkets, restaurants and two caravan and camping centres are within a few minutes by car.

Astro Turf electric grass and gravel campervan or tent pitch

Liked Gorgeous clean and spacious site. Stayed for 5 nights.
Visited Monty’s bar every evening for a lovely relaxing evening. Live music on the Friday was a great start to a wonderful stay.
Fabulous food vans arrived each evening with a different option each time. Enjoyed the pitch and putt too.
Excellent WiFi
Will definitely be returning

Large spacious pitches, well kept, staff very friendly and accommodating. Great shop, bar, shower blocks, dog walk.. NO children allowed, so a great bonus, as you can completely relax.

Astro Turf electric grass and gravel campervan or tent pitch

Liked Really great, clean shower and toilet facilities, decent washing up area, good free WiFi, friendly and helpful staff, well-stocked shop.

This campsite is perfect for people with caravans, motorhomes and dogs, who like to relax in the sun, have a drink at the on-site bar or jump in the car to visit nearby places like Bournemouth and Poole. However, if like us you prefer to pitch up and go for long walks in beautiful countryside straight from the site then this might not be the place for you (though there are short strolls on the site - around the small pretty lakes and a woodland area).

There are some very lovely pitches surrounded by trees and hedges but ours backed very closely to the pitches behind us without a hedge or fence to separate them and we felt like we didn’t have any privacy.

Generally we had a lovely stay at Back of Beyond but it’s not really for us.

Disliked Pitches too close together so no privacy.
Struggled to get tent pegs in - the astro turf was backed onto wooden board.
Not much to explore on foot straight from the site.
Too many dogs.
Very busy.

From the manager: Thank you for the review of our park. We really do appreciate it.
I am sorry we are not for you. The park is busy in August, as all parks should be, as it is the peak of the season. the park is quiet many other times of the year is Spring and Autumn so maybe that would have been a great time to visit us.
We do recommend on our pre arrival email to bring rock pegs for the pitches as the small wire tent pegs are not strong enough for the ground.
We are continuing to plant hedges on every pitch and all the astro pitches will have privacy this winter.
There are 4 large walking areas from our park that are listed on our website and we also have free flyers in the reception. I am sorry if you missed out on these.
Many thanks again.

Emma's Glade non-electric grass campervan or tent pitch (no pets, wild)

Liked Well organised, with polite staff.
Very peaceful in the wild camping area.
Facilities are very good and well maintained.

Disliked If we are being picky, you can just hear the A31 road in the evening. But only just.

Electric hardstanding and grass touring pitch (XL)

Liked Staff were amazing and pitches were huge just what we wanted toilets and showers spotless. Pub fantastic very cheap for drinks and absolutely stunning site one of the best me and hubby were on and we loved the idea with the electric been on metre and took off her card 5 days later fish and chip van amazing food pizza van was ok too will absolutely be coming back

Disliked Not a thing to dislike

Recommend to friends Visit again

From the manager: Thank you. The metering work really well as everyone gets a very generous free amount and its only the heavy users who need to pay anything on top, and that is only 25p per Kwh.
Many thanks again.

Electric hardstanding and grass touring pitch

Liked An excellent, well managed camp site with generously sized pitches. Really top class ablution facilities. A well run communal social / bar area. A well stocked shop on site. Good catering by way of a varied nightly food van. We really enjoyed our stay here.

Disliked Directions to the site from the A31 are not particularly clear by satnav following of postcode. They are not specific enough. Best to follow the campsite approach information.

Recommend to friends Visit again

From the manager: Thank you for the top score. Yes, we do say in the arrival email to please follow our instructions as not all sat nav have our address precisely. We have approached them all but, still waiting for some to update. Many thanks again.

Route directions

Some guests have issues with the site address when put into some satnav devices. Please print out these directions and follow these when you are close to the site to ensure you find the site easily. From the north or east: From the M3, take J14 onto the M27 westbound and join the A31 (signposted Ringwood). Pass Ringwood; stay on the A31 to St. Leonards and pass St. Leonards Hotel on left. At the next roundabout (signed Boundary Lane), turn right into the site lane. Take care: this turn is set back from the roundabout by a few yards, so look for the site sign and one for Shamba. From the west: Follow the signs for Ringwood on the A31 eastbound. Pass The Woodman pub on your left. At the next roundabout go straight over and immediately left into the site lane. Drive straight down the lane, pass Shamba and go through the twin towers to the site barrier. When you arrive at the barrier system press the button for attention.
