Crack into the Dorset countryside and wind down with lake views at Shaftesbury Country Touring Park. From cruising down countryside trails to taking day trips down to the Jurassic Coast (an hour’s drive south), this friendly 19-acre rural site is well-positioned for families, including their dogs, to indulge in the outdoors. There’s plenty to keep guests occupied in the area, as the site is a five-minute drive from Shaftesbury, a market town home to the cute Gold Hill, a famed site paved with ancient cobbles. Shaftesbury has ample cafés, restaurants and pubs where you can fill up on different types of food (or beer, if that’s on your mind). Handily, there’s a well-stocked licensed mini market on site, and a larger supermarket in town in case you need to stock up on more extensive supplies. Other amenities on site include an amenities block and a launderette to help keep you looking your best, whether you're off for a day of animal-spotting at Longleat’s safari park, half an hour’s drive away, or perhaps trying to unravel the mystery of Stonehenge, 45 minutes’ drive away.

  • Your dog must be tattooed or microchipped.

Occupancy

  • Bookings must not consist of more than 2 different households.
  • Group bookings of 2 or more units travelling together are not permitted via Pitchup.com.
  • No hen/stag parties permitted via Pitchup.com.
  • The site caters for families (immediate members) and couples only - bookings from all other forms of groups are not accepted.

Pitches

  • A cable measuring at least 25 metres is needed for the electric hook-ups.

  • Swimming in the lake is not allowed.

  • Commercial vehicles (vehicles used for work-related purposes, carrying goods or fare-paying passengers) and sign-written vehicles are not permitted on site.

Liked The friendly welcome, the location was perfect for us to visit relatives in Mere. The toilet and shower block was clean and well maintained.

Disliked The water in the dishwash area was not very hot

Thank you for your feedback. We pride ourselves on the toilet/shower block as being campers ourselves we always check the toilets when we arrive on a campsite.
Not sue what happened to the water in the dishwash area, we will have to check that one out.

Liked Facilities very clean, well-maintained areas kept lovely. Was a very spacious site, Staff were lovely very helpful.

Disliked Wasn’t anything to do couldn’t walk off site due to the very busy road. Quite close to Shaftesbury.

Non-electric grass tent pitch (two person)

Liked Spacious, reasonably flat site, with lovely clean toilet and shower facilities. A small well kept fishing pond is a joy to behold. Nearby shops and pubs. Close to Shaftesbury. Easy to find and an ideal location.

Disliked The road noise can be a little intrusive.

Non-electric grass tent pitch (two person)

Liked We loved the generous pitch sizes and the wonderful open skies of the Shaftesbury Country Touring Park Site. A great treat was having our morning coffee at the side of a wild-life pond, watching the fish jump and the house-martins swoop and fly over the water. The facilities were great, clean and well-illuminated. Steph and Carl were friendly and on-hand to settle us in and explain how the site works.

Disliked Luckily our stay was during the cool month of September and we did not need any shade. If we came during the real heat of the Summer, we would bring some extra shade, perhaps a gazebo or large umbrella. But that would not stop us from booking again.

Liked Had a really lovely weekend stay here and will happily return!
A fabulous enormous field for pitching up on, dog walking around the lake, playing games etc
Plenty of space for everyone!
Facilities are good, with dishwashing area and really clean toilets/showers
But most importantly lovely helpful hosts 🙏
We were camping trying out a new campervan and they were very understanding and helpful ☺️

Liked Good open space and clean facilities. Friendly management and very helpful.

Disliked Change of weather and us parking caravan too close to the stream meant lots of mosquitoes that bit us all. Not necessarily the site’s fault!

Take a detour into the animal world for a little while… there are several animal-orientated activities within reach of the site, including the family-friendly Farmer Palmer’s Farm Park (45 minutes’ drive) for hands-on farm activities and the Bush Farm Bison Centre (15 minutes), home to bison and elk and woodland walks. On a bigger scale, Longleat (half an hour) has a drive-through safari packed with wild animals. However, it has more than just animals – there’s also an adventure park and over at Longleat House (35 minutes), you can ogle over an Elizabethan house through tours, exhibitions and walks around the formal and pleasure gardens. There are more trips into history at hand too, whether it’s inside Old Wardour Castle (20 minutes), Stourhead’s mansion and landscaped gardens (20 minutes) or Stonehenge (45 minutes). If you want energy-packed afternoons instead, the New Forest National Park (50 minutes) and its hiking and cycling trails may be worth the little longer drive. There are opportunities for watersports in Bournemouth (an hour) or a scenic coastal walk at Durdle Door (an hour) on the Jurassic Coast.
