Shaftesbury Country Touring Park: Road through the site

General

  • Dog-friendly site surrounded by the peaceful Dorset countryside
  • Half an hour’s drive from Longleat; an hour from the Jurassic coast
  • Fishing lake on site; plenty of restaurants, shops and pubs nearby

Crack open the Dorset countryside from Shaftesbury Country Touring Park. This friendly rural site is well-positioned for families, including their dogs, to make way through countryside routes and nearby forestry or a day trip down to the Jurassic Coast, an hour’s drive south. Simply roll up, pick a plot somewhere in the 19-acre field and wind down with lake views.

Brush up using the on-site amenities block ready for a day animal-spotting at Longleat’s safari park, half an hour’s drive away, or perhaps try to unravel the mystery of Stonehenge, 45 minutes’ drive. Things are kept fairly basic on site, but there’s a chemical disposal if you need it and a launderette for any used clothes.

Master your fishing skills at the on-site fishing lake or show off if you may. There’s plenty to keep guests occupied, as the site is five minutes’ drive from the local market town of Shaftesbury, home to the cutesy Gold Hill (ancient cobbles going downhill). Here, there are ample cafés, restaurants and pubs where you can fill up on various different types of food (or beer if that’s on your mind). Handily, there’s a large supermarket in the town too, in case you feel like taking something back to the site with you.

Please note

Guests are advised to bring a good quality torch with them as parts of the site are unlit.

Owing to government regulations, groups of 10 or more people are not permitted.

Commercial vehicles (vehicles used for work-related purposes, carrying goods or fare-paying passengers) and sign-written vehicles are not permitted on site.

Protective masks must be worn at all times in common areas.

At least one of the party members must be aged 18 or over.

Swimming in the lake is not allowed.

A cable measuring at least 25 metres is needed for the electric hook-ups.

Bookings must not consist of more than 2 different households.

The site does not accept breeds/crossbreeds listed in the Dangerous Dogs Act (i.e. Pit Bull Terrier, Japanese Tosa, Dogo Argentino, and Fila Brasileiro) and/or any of the following: Staffordshire bull terrier, American Staffordshire terrier, Rottweiler, any Mastiff or Tosa.

Under 18s must be accompanied by their parents or legal guardians.

Minimum spacing of 5 metres between pitches.

As camping noobs, Carl was extremely helpful when we arrived, helping us with the electrical hookup and even helping put our awning up! The site itself was great, spacious pitches, clean and well maintained toilets/showers. Handy location too. Would definitely recommend.

Stayed in a large empty field that was very nice as it was dry and sunny.

    Disliked:

The electric hookup was 25m away to a cable running along the grass from don’t know where. Not very safe. Booked a handstand and was out in a field. Was ok as it was dry and sunny, but if wet would have had to insist on moving. Facilities were limited with only 2 female showers and toilets in the block for quite a large site. Not a problem as it was quiet but in the school holidays would be a problem.

From the manager...

Hi,
Thank you for your taking your time to write a review.
You were given the choice of a hardstanding pitch but decided to stay on the grass pitch because you said it was so nice.
Facilities are limited at the moment to Covid-19, as we have alternative showers and toilets when we are busy and not restricted.
Your EHU was an extension from an electric point to allow for social distancing.
