  • Quiet family-run Dorset park 20 minutes’ walk from Lyme Regis
  • Charmouth 10 minutes’ drive; Beer 20 minutes; Chesil Beach 50 minutes
  • On-site shop; pop-up dining in summer; pub five minutes’ walk
Looking for a non-party place? Set in peaceful countryside on the county lines between Devon and Dorset, Hook Farm Campsite in Uplyme should be your first pick. This family-run holiday park is a quiet place designed for small family groups, couples and solo travellers only. Not only that, but it's in pole position for exploring the Jurassic Coast and the pretty seaside town of Lyme Regis (20 minutes’ walk away). Once you’ve settled in, owners John and Jacky and their close-knit team at reception are happy to advise on sightseeing and local walks, or provide information on local events and attractions. The adjacent on-site shop is stocked with camping essentials, basic foods and barbecue bits, as well as sweets and snacks to keep the kids going. The staples store in Uplyme, 10 minutes’ walk away, should have anything you can’t find in the site shop, and there’s also a pub five minutes' walk away serving home-cooked food and real ales. For food fanatics, pop-up food trucks stop by Hook Farm Campsite in high season, and it’s also close to River Cottage (35 minutes’ drive, famed as the restaurant of TV chef Hugh Fearnley-Whittingstall), as well as an assortment of pubs and restaurants showcasing local food and drinks. The campsite is situated within a dark-skies area, so you might get lucky weatherwise and observe star-studded night skies from the comfort of your pitch.

What customers say

This well-maintained campsite offers spacious, clean pitches with excellent facilities, including spotless toilets and showers. Guests frequently praise the friendly and helpful staff. Its beautiful rural location provides stunning views and a peaceful atmosphere, with many enjoying the lovely riverside walk to Lyme Regis. While most feedback is overwhelmingly positive, a few minor points were raised regarding the cost of showers and Wi-Fi, and the firmness of the ground. The site's terraced layout contributes to privacy.

Electric grass tent pitch (large)

Liked Facilities and location

Disliked Being charged extra for another car , when booked a large pitch with plenty of room .
Rather abruptly told that have to pay to park other car in their “car park “ away from the pitch .
As a group of 2 adults and 4 children having booked a large pitch, and not being told this on any confirmation emails.
Have never experienced that before on any other site .

Electric grass campervan pitch (medium)

Liked Lovely campsite with beautiful views, surrounded by trees and amazing sunset from the higher pitches. Really friendly staff and loos/showers very nice and clean. The children around us all made friends and had a brilliant time playing together. The riverside walk into Lyme Regis is great, about 40 mins and we managed to catch the bus back after a busy day on the beach. A wonderful holiday, thank you!

Disliked Don’t forget to change money into 20p at the shop during opening hours for the showers.

From the manager: Thank you so much for your wonderful review of our campsites, we're so pleased you and your children had a lovely stay with us. We will pass on your kind message to our staff.
We do try our best to ensure all guests are informed of the shop opening times and check to see if you have 20ps for the showers at check-in times, however we appreciate that this may have caused you some inconvenience during your stay if you weren't aware of this.
We look forward to welcome you back to Hook Farm on your next visit!

Electric grass campervan pitch (medium)

Liked We liked the terraced set up and views of the countryside. The tiered effect meant you could then only see the other campers directly around you and not the whole site. The grass pitch (medium) was very generous for our campervan, which was great.

Disliked The bump up in price for a bank holiday.. But no different from what every other site does regarding this.

The walk along the river to Lyme Regis was really lovely and starts from the bottom of the hill, so location is really good.

Liked Lovely peaceful site with spacious pitches and a nice 45 minute river walk to the seaside. Clean and modern toilet and shower blocks

Disliked Showers are 20p (not an issue) but only get 4 minutes. Not long enough if washing hair but only took one coin with me into shower 😢 need to advise it’s 4 minutes at check in I think.

Local attractions

Dedicated star-gazers can stroll up to Trinity Hill Nature Reserve (45 minutes’ walk), awarded Dark Sky Discovery Site status thanks to its lack of light pollution. Hook Farm is also a handy base camp for walkers in the East Devon Natural Landscape (direct from site), and has ready access to the South West Coast Path (half an hour), while following the East Devon Way (five minutes) gives you a handy riverside shortcut down to the sea. Historic Lyme Regis (five minutes’ drive) is known for the fossils and ammonites found on its sands, and is gateway to the dramatic seascapes of the Jurassic Coast. You can hunt for more ancient treasures on the beach at Charmouth (10 minutes), and wander along the pebble spit at Chesil Beach (50 minutes). The lively (and lovely) seaside town of Beer (20 minutes) has a photogenic fishing harbour and several contemporary art galleries to mooch around, and if the kids are with you, you’ll probably end up at The Donkey Sanctuary (also 20 minutes), where you can feed and cuddle rescue donkeys.
