  • Quiet family-run Dorset park 20 minutes’ walk from Lyme Regis
  • Charmouth 10 minutes’ drive; Beer 20 minutes; Chesil Beach 50 minutes
  • On-site shop; pop-up dining in summer; pub five minutes’ walk
Looking for a non-party place? Set in peaceful countryside on the county lines between Devon and Dorset, Hook Farm Campsite in Uplyme should be your first pick. This family-run holiday park is a quiet place designed for small family groups, couples and solo travellers only. Not only that, but it's in pole position for exploring the Jurassic Coast and the pretty seaside town of Lyme Regis (20 minutes’ walk away). Once you’ve settled in, owners John and Jacky and their close-knit team at reception are happy to advise on sightseeing and local walks, or provide information on local events and attractions. The adjacent on-site shop is stocked with camping essentials, basic foods and barbecue bits, as well as sweets and snacks to keep the kids going. The staples store in Uplyme, 10 minutes’ walk away, should have anything you can’t find in the site shop, and there’s also a pub five minutes' walk away serving home-cooked food and real ales. For food fanatics, pop-up food trucks stop by Hook Farm Campsite in high season, and it’s also close to River Cottage (35 minutes’ drive, famed as the restaurant of TV chef Hugh Fearnley-Whittingstall), as well as an assortment of pubs and restaurants showcasing local food and drinks. The campsite is situated within a dark-skies area, so you might get lucky weatherwise and observe star-studded night skies from the comfort of your pitch.

Liked Great site and location, couldn't fault it really and staff very friendly. The 20p for a shower is the only reason not 10/10.

Electric grass motorhome pitch (large)

Liked Fab location, good size pitch, excellent facilities, stunning showers etc. Nothing to dislike. Great walk down into Lyme Regis.

Disliked Being picky, the distance of the EHU from the pitch. Fortunately a kind van neighbour loaned me an extension cable.

From the manager: Thank you for your fabulous review of our site, we are so pleased you enjoyed your stay here. We do recommend to all guests to bring a cable a minimum of 25m in length, but i'm happy to hear that another camper loaned you one. We look forward to welcoming you back again on your next trip!

Don’t bother unless you’re part of the uptight crew!

Electric grass campervan pitch (medium)

Liked Nothing.

Disliked Very disappointing to have our beautiful self build camper turned away on arrival as it wasn’t up to their standards. It was our first outing in this current camper van having spent months kitting it out & we were excited about test running it.

Fortunately it wasn’t quite peak season so we managed to find another campsite at short notice which were only too happy to except or lovely campervan.

Frustrating to have to pay out twice though as although I was promised a 85% refund it still hasn’t reached my account and our holiday has finished now. Holidays are expensive as it is and a swifter refund would have been appreciated.

From the manager: We're really sorry that you didn't get to stay with us this time. We do mention in our T&C's that all converted vehicles must meet DVLA requirements to stay on our site. We're glad you found another campsite to stay at and still managed to enjoy your holiday. If you have any concerns about your refund please contact info@hookfarmcamping.com and a member of staff will be happy to assist you with information around this.

Electric grass tent pitch (XL)

Liked Our pitch was lovely and big, the staff were excellent, we especially liked being escorted to our pitch, every member of staff was welcoming and helpful. The toilets and showers were clean and 20p gave 4 minutes in the shower, lots of time for us, my daughter with long hair used 3 when washing as thick. Not a problem, as there was never a queue. We would definitely again.

Electric grass motorhome pitch (large)

Liked Overall very clean tidy site, staff very friendly, wash facilities well kept. Lovely walk into Lyme Regis avoiding roads. Useful having short walk to pub for a meal check with landlord not always serving meals every night (ie not Tuesdays)

Disliked Would be useful to have a plan of site pitches when booking so you could select those that are available.
Found 4mins for shower could be a little longer say 5mins

Electric hardstanding and grass motorhome pitch (large, no awning)

Liked Lovely campsite which is well looked after.
All the staff were friendly and welcoming.
Pitch size was very good and the pitch was in good order.
The toilets and showers were always immaculately clean and in good order.
Handy little shop on site for bits and pieces.
Location of site is excellent for walking into Lyme Regis.
WiFi was very good.
Plenty of areas off site to let your dog have a run around.
We loved it here as did our dog.
We will definitely be back.

Disliked Nothing to dislike.

*My only thing I would mention is that if you have a dog which barks at anything and everything then get it trained because other guests won’t want to hear it. We noticed 2 separate guests with yappy dogs who were absolutely clueless.*

Liked The pitch and site

Disliked The walk to the pub very steep hill. very let down when got there no where to sit indoors very hot inside not good wouldn't recommend it 😕

From the manager: We are really pleased to hear that you liked pitch and the park. Our local pub extremely popular and we always advise prebooking for food. Its an old building so usually very cool inside even on a hot day and they have a log fire in the winter. There are lots of great places to eat in Lyme Regis which we are happy to recommend.

Local attractions

Dedicated star-gazers can stroll up to Trinity Hill Nature Reserve (45 minutes’ walk), awarded Dark Sky Discovery Site status thanks to its lack of light pollution. Hook Farm is also a handy base camp for walkers in the East Devon Natural Landscape (direct from site), and has ready access to the South West Coast Path (half an hour), while following the East Devon Way (five minutes) gives you a handy riverside shortcut down to the sea. Historic Lyme Regis (five minutes’ drive) is known for the fossils and ammonites found on its sands, and is gateway to the dramatic seascapes of the Jurassic Coast. You can hunt for more ancient treasures on the beach at Charmouth (10 minutes), and wander along the pebble spit at Chesil Beach (50 minutes). The lively (and lovely) seaside town of Beer (20 minutes) has a photogenic fishing harbour and several contemporary art galleries to mooch around, and if the kids are with you, you’ll probably end up at The Donkey Sanctuary (also 20 minutes), where you can feed and cuddle rescue donkeys.
