Bell tent (classic)
Liked: Dewflock has a great relaxed atmosphere, and the kids loved seeing the animals. It sounds like they put on some fab extras during the summer holidays, like the Landies and hay bale play, but none of that was available when we visited. The owners are lovely, and we enjoyed the cafe/bar on site.
Disliked: It wasn’t quite the quiet, middle of nowhere farm visit we had anticipated. The camping field is right next to the train line, which our 3 year old loved but we were less keen on, and there were frequently sirens from the nearby main road. Additionally there was a DJ in the barn on our first night which could be heard from the far end of the camping field. The facilities are also lacking. There are only two loos which frequently ran out of loo roll and hand soap. The only washing up facilities are some dirty animal troughs not fed from mains water. The only mains water tap is in the first field and has been encircled by a group for the start of our stay so that no one else could see it or use it. The blurb for the campsite mentioned use of a communal kitchen but we never found it - the only small shed it might have been in was always locked shut. This largely wouldn’t have been a problem if we’d have known as we would have brought more camping equipment. We tried to get breakfast at the cafe instead but this doesn’t open until 8am, which is too late for small kids.

The Copse shepherd's hut
Liked: Off Grid and up in the woods above the campsite it was peaceful and quiet in our Shepherd's hut, until the grandchildren and their parents came to visit from the campsite! They enjoyed having breakfast around an open fire; tried out the hammock and the the long-drop toilet and searched for snails in the undergrowth. An ideal retreat and magical in the evening with views of the setting sun and then the twinkling of the solar lights.

Liked: The wood fire pizza and bar were great; lovely vibe and good quality food and drinks. Lots of locals were in attendance and there was a very friendly atmosphere. The cafe area was also very well done with a great selection of cakes. The animals were a real hit with the children and provided lots of entertainment. The site is well located in terms of proximity to Weymouth and Dorchester.
Disliked: My biggest disappointment with the site was the lack of hot water for washing up. The site advertises -"there is also the field kitchen with a washing up area, fridges and freezers, a toaster, kettle and crockery." When we enquired as to where the fridge was, we were told it is just a fridge which we could not have access to ourselves, but had to hand over items and could only get them back during cafe opening times from staff. We did later find the field kitchen, which appears to have been used by an exclusive group of campers only. When I popped in to have a look, I discovered the whole thing had been locked up when said campers had departed. I would not book this site on the premise that there will be hot water for washing up or fridges, as it does not seem these facilities are available for all. Perhaps this could be put in clearer terms. The wash block ran out of hand soap and loo roll over the weekend and took a day to be replaced. As previous reviews have stated, there is a train track extremely close to the site which does somewhat detract from the peaceful camping experience. There was a festival on at the site when we attended. This was not advertised and perhaps we would not have made the booking had we known. The music was not ideal for getting young children to sleep, or for enjoying the quiet of the countryside. The site is sloping and not ideal terrain for camping.

From the manager: Many thanks for the review. I am glad you loved the animals and location. The pizza, bar and atmosphere were all part of the festival weekend so glad you enjoyed an element of the weekend. The kitchen is tiny and there is no way it could have coped with the amount of guests staying. We normally have 20 pitches and we were quite happy to freeze your blocks and then once the numbers greatly reduced, you had access to the kitchen. Washing up facilities were designed for the numbers attending and steam cleaned IBC containers with fresh water have worked in the past. Toilet rolls were taken quite freely by campers which made it impossible to keep up with them. In 2 days we got through 84 rolls. As quick as we refilled the basket, the quicker it was emptied. The handwash was refilled as soon as it was drawn to my attention. There is plenty of flat space for setting up base. If you were unhappy with your pitch, you should have said something. The gentle incline is around the outside but loads of flat space in the middle of the field. I know you were located by your friends which is something we always make sure happens. Very sad you will not be revisiting Dewflock but we will try to learn from your feedback for future events we run. Crushed with a 4 as I always pride myself on offering a great destination. BW, Verity

Bell tent (classic)
Liked: We visited Dewflock for the May family camp. It was absolutely lovely, a very child friendly and safe campsite. We hired an unfurnished bell tent which slept the 4 of us comfortably and would have easily accommodated another person. The cafe/farm shop with farm animals to pet was an added bonus. We took advantage of the catering on both the evening and morning and it was very tasty and excellent value. The Farm is located close to Weymouth and made an ideal location for a traditional seaside stay.

Fully-furnished bell tent (premium)
Liked: We loved our stay at Dewflock Farm. We had a fully furnished bell tent and it was great! The beds were comfy and warm, the fire pits are fun and functional and the complimentary marshmallows definitely a winner with the kids. Every morning they were up and ready to go and ride in the Landies and had a great time in the Maize maze. Showers are warm and spacious and the toilet block is clean and tidy. Outdoor kitchen area has a kettle, cleaning area, cutlery and crockery and multiple fridges and freezers to use. Location is great, the train track is literally right behind you, but they don't wake you up and it's just an added bonus for the kids to watch them going by throughout the day. My kids were regular visitors to the lambs and the Donkey is a fabulous character- one day he was stood waiting at the fence and when the kids noticed and started running towards him he started bellowing with excitement! There's plenty to keep them entertained and I wish it was open more throughout the year, they asked me to extend the stay but they were fully booked for the BH weeked. Verity and the family are friendly and fun and they should be really proud of their fabulous site.

Rufus shepherd's hut
Liked: We stayed in the Rufus shepherds hut, the accommodation was cute, cosy, clean and tidy. The site was good for young or older children with the on-site animals, mini landrovers, maize, games room and cafe. The facilities (toilets, showers and kitchen) was very clean the whole stay. Location was really good and the owners/staff was very polite and professional
Disliked: Accommodation was abit too cosy/cramped for the three of us and the luggage. I wouldn’t choose this type of accommodation again for three people, I would go for the bell tent. My 3 year old wouldn’t sleep on the top bunk as it was to high for him.

Fully-furnished bell tent (premium)
Liked: Retuned after a lovely stay two years ago. Clean, boys able to run around freely and enjoyed being able to get close to animals. Lots of stars at night and wildlife to be seen and heard. Perfect location to travel around from. Lyme Regis dinosaurland fossil museum was great. Weymouth close by also. Plenty to do and Dewflocks sunflower corn maze was a hit as was table tennis & landies! Thank you for a lovely time! Boys were sad to leave.
Disliked: Nothing to dislike!
