  • Family-friendly park just outside Charmouth on the Jurassic Coast
  • Pools, play areas and indoor play
  • Modern amenities including hot showers and a launderette
There’s nothing fossilised about a stay at Newlands Holiday Park, a stone’s throw away from the Jurassic Coast on the Devon/Dorset border, where the staff and facilities should cater to your every holiday need. For example, this lush place has two separate play areas for the mini guests. There's also an indoor heated pool – and an outdoor one with loungers so you can bask in the sun and wonder where the kids get all that energy… More? There's an indoor soft play area. Also use family-run Newlands as a base for a Lyme Regis fossil-hunting holiday or just lounge about on site; either way, epic times are on the cards. The 23-acre landscaped park has all the facilities you’d expect from a thoroughly modern site: internet access and clean up-to-date amenities including hot showers and a launderette. Half a mile from Newlands, the World Heritage village of Charmouth has shops, restaurants and pubs… and is also known for its hardy souls taking to the sea in fancy dress on Christmas Day.

Electric grass touring pitch

Liked Well kept lovely grounds with views of the surrounding area. Super bar and restaurant area which is dog friendly. Friendly welcome and well stocked shop.

Disliked Toilet and shower facilities weren't that clean, which was disappointing. Rather hilly site for less abled visitors.

Electric grass touring pitch

Liked Great facilities on site and a 15 min walk to Charmouth. Beautiful countryside views and we couldn't hear the road (camper) at night. Enjoyed the quiz night!

Folk in the Spar shop were lovely.

Disliked Restaurant food was pricey for the quality of ingredients.

Electric grass tent or trailer tent pitch

Liked The staff were extremely friendly. There was a problem with a rowdy bunch of campers who made excessive noise one night. They were asked to leave the very next day. The managers then made a point of visiting everyone else to apologise for the trouble caused.
The shop had a good level of groceries, drinks, snacks and toys, all at reasonable prices.
The swimming pools are of a high standard. With nice clean changing facilities.
The bar and evening entertainment were also a bonus
My grandchildren loved the soft play and outdoor play parks.
The shower block was kept in an immaculate condition, with plenty of showers for everyone, so no queues.
The site is handy for the many lovely beaches in this part of the world.

Disliked The site is on a steep incline but the pitches are level. This does mean that the walk to and from the shops will work off a few calories.
There are plenty of seagulls on site so make sure you lock up any left over food or rubbish

Electric grass touring pitch

Liked Great views. Good facilities. A.nd a great a t campsite in almost every way.

Disliked The road noise from the A35 was continual and through-out the day and night. It certainly made sleeping difficult. Unfortunately we would not come back for that reason.

Electric grass tent or trailer tent pitch

Liked The amenities were good. Food in the restaurant was also lovely.

Disliked Our pitch was unfortunately very stoney and full of flint which made it difficult to pitch up the tent.
The amenities were good but could use toilet and shower block for the top field.
We had a great time until the last night where we unfortunately has a very rowdy tent 2 pitches down who kept us awake all night with singing and music. Despite being politely asked to quieten down, they continued until the early hours of the morning which really ruined our last night.

Electric hardstanding touring pitch

Liked Unfortunately due to a family accident altering our plans we were only able to stay one night. However, Lovely views, shop on-site, indoor and outdoor pool which we enjoyed. Cannot comment on the food/drink/entertainment as we did not get to use this part of the establishment.

Disliked By a main road which was very noisy, facilities outdated and not kept tidy by other campers/holiday makers, which was a shame.
A few thistles/weeds growing up through the pitches, parts of the site really well maintained and freshened up, but not where we were unfortunately.

Local attractions

Charmouth is the gateway to the Jurassic Coast and has some of the best fossils to be found in Dorset: the Charmouth Heritage Coast Centre has fossil collections and guided fossil walks and is where you can proudly bring in your very own fossil find to be identified. The beach is a 15-minute walk from Newlands: stroll from here to Lyme Regis keeping your head down for more fossily finds, then wander around Lyme to take a look at Cobb Harbour (made famous in Jane Austen’s Persuasion); buy freshly ground flour at the 14th-century watermill; amble along to at the ammonites, exhibitions and events at the museum, or tee off on the cliff at Lyme Regis Golf Club. Mini fossil-hunters will likely be monster fans of the award-winning Dinosaur Museum at Dorchester, and taking a detour while in town to the Teddy Bear Museum. If they’re watery types, they’ll have a whale of a time at the Splashdown Water Park in Poole and the walk-through underwater tunnel at the Bournemouth Oceanarium. Closer to Newlands and Dino Dan, families can see zebras and meerkats at the Axe Valley Wildlife Park, trundle along on the Seaton Tramway for a scenic trip through the estuary of the River Axe, or feed a shoal of fish at Lyme Regis Marine Aquarium.
