  • Friendly site 20 minutes' drive from the centre of Bournemouth
  • Sociable atmosphere that respects guests' peace and quiet
  • Dogs welcome; water-based activities nearby in Bournemouth
If your destination is Dorset-based, farm yourself out to the friendly folk at St Leonards Farm Caravan & Camping Park. Just a 20-minute drive from the centre of Bournemouth, half an hour from Poole and 15 minutes from the New Forest National Park, it should make an excellent base to get out and explore from. This is a place that has sparkling clean loos, toasty hot water for showers and washing up, and well-marked-out pitches – clearly the owners know what guests want. Canine campers are also welcome too. If you want to sizzle your own sausages, saving one for the dog, you can exchange gas cylinders on site. There are two major supermarkets within five minutes’ drive, two pubs within a mile and a number of nearby restaurants if you’re feeling lazy/thirsty. St Leonards Farm Caravan & Camping Park is a sociable but quiet site and has a 'no noise after 11pm' policy – most welcome if you’re getting up at the crack of dawn for some seaside exploring. The security gates are locked at night for safety and security; there's overnight parking outside of the security gates if you need it, so check at reception to find out the exact times the gates are opened and closed.

Non-electric grass pitch

Liked Very welcoming, plenty of space and well laid out. Very informative about local area. Showers and toilets were very clean and were cleaned numerous times a day. Halfords is a few minutes walk so perfect if you’ve forgot any camping equipment, also Lidl & McDonalds very close.

Disliked It was quite windy and the rain during the night woke me up. Obviously only fault was on me for my timing

Electric grass pitch

Liked Spacious pitch, site was easy to find, nice large toilet block which was clean, good washing up facilities and chemical toilet disposal.

Disliked Shower water was cold at around 10pm. Had to keep asking to be let out and ring someone to get in at night, due to number plate not being recognised. Unfortunately opposite a family that did not supervise their children, and found a small easter egg left in the toilet tent and toys around and close to our pitch ok ate at night. Made sure valuables where with us anyway.

Electric hardstanding touring pitch

Liked Lovely campsite well spread out, one block of facilities were great and super clean. We loved the animals in the farm and were very lucky with the weather to walk around. Location was good if you have bikes otherwise you need to drive everywhere as just off busy main road.

Disliked We did book hardstanding pitch and were given a grass pitch, although we were lucky with dry weather it doesn’t look like they have many hardstanding pitches available. Unfortunately the park and play fields were closed due to previously floods, when we asked about it they mentioned they are waiting to cut the grass which I would have thought should have been done before a busy Easter weekend as the fields were very clearly ok, fly did out a huge downer on the trip as that was the main reason we booked the campsite. The shower block near us was a bit run down and not as clean so people walked down to the other new block for showers, which caused ques. I would also say, don’t expect a response via email, I emailed 3 times for separate things and never once got a reply. Booked the wrong date (added to many days) and requested for a refund immediately after making the booking stating my mistake and apologising ,which never got a response.

Non-electric grass pitch

Liked Liked having assigned spaces, like the hedges and the way the park was laid out. Nice quiet location, no road noise but also very close to local shops. Really hot water all the time too, washing up facilities were great as were the bathrooms.

Disliked There was a dog poo near our pitch and it was a shame this wasn’t cleared (not the owners fault and it shouldn’t have happened it’s down to the bad dog owner) it was the only mess we saw though.

Electric grass pitch

Liked Excellent site, easy to get to, well maintained grounds, pitches very spacious (either with or without electric hook-up). Very peaceful, great to watch and listen to the local birds / wildlife. Possibly most importantly for many, the shower blocks were very clean, in particular the newer block with heated individual private bathrooms. Staff were very welcoming, friendly and supported immediately with any issues.

Disliked Minor issue experienced on one of our five nights with the electric hook-up tripping off in the night, I'd suggest the supply needs to be upgraded from 10 amps to 13 amps to alleviate this issue. The staff were proactively testing first thing in the morning to check if all pitches were OK.

Local attractions

St Leonards Farm is one of the closest sites to Bournemouth, with sandy beaches only seven miles away. There’s loads to do nearby if you’re feeling full of beans – try watersports such as windsurfing, sailing or surfing at Bournemouth’s artificial reef, or get busy with some go-karting, dry slope skiing, golf, fishing or horse-riding in the scenic surrounding countryside. Feeling a bit tired after all that sporty exertion? Take a picnic to nearby Moors Valley Country Park, which has a golf course, cycling routes and outdoor play area, or have a family day out at a plethora of local attractions including Paultons Park, Marwell Zoo, Beaulieu Motor Museum and Wimborne Minster Model Town. Kids will likely enjoy fossil hunting on the Jurassic Coast, and if they’re disappointed by not finding a T-rex skeleton right there and then, you can take them along to the Dinosaur Museum at Dorchester, then spoil them with a day out at Adventure Wonderland less than three miles from the park. The site is also an ideal stopover point for the Poole or Portsmouth cross-channel ferries.
