  • Friendly site 20 minutes' drive from the centre of Bournemouth
  • Sociable atmosphere that respects guests' peace and quiet
  • Dogs welcome; water-based activities nearby in Bournemouth
If your destination is Dorset-based, farm yourself out to the friendly folk at St Leonards Farm Caravan & Camping Park. Just a 20-minute drive from the centre of Bournemouth, half an hour from Poole and 15 minutes from the New Forest National Park, it should make an excellent base to get out and explore from. This is a place that has sparkling clean loos, toasty hot water for showers and washing up, and well-marked-out pitches – clearly the owners know what guests want. Canine campers are also welcome too. If you want to sizzle your own sausages, saving one for the dog, you can exchange gas cylinders on site. There are two major supermarkets within five minutes’ drive, two pubs within a mile and a number of nearby restaurants if you’re feeling lazy/thirsty. St Leonards Farm Caravan & Camping Park is a sociable but quiet site and has a 'no noise after 11pm' policy – most welcome if you’re getting up at the crack of dawn for some seaside exploring. The security gates are locked at night for safety and security; there's overnight parking outside of the security gates if you need it, so check at reception to find out the exact times the gates are opened and closed.

Liked The location and the layout of the site.

Disliked Poor customer service. Our electric kettle broke, so I asked the lady at reception if I could borrow the kettle in the office to make some coffee. Her response was, “You cannot come into the office, and we don’t provide this service.” I found her response unnecessarily unhelpful and disappointing.

A few other things are worth mentioning. The chains on two swings were quite rusty and could probably do with being replaced. The toilets and showers could also benefit from a good clean. We also noticed that the water pressure was quite low, particularly in the showers. Hopefully these are things that can be looked at, as addressing them would make the overall experience much more enjoyable for guests.

Liked Everyone was super friendly, the site was great, the playground on the park was very open to all ages we had children from 2YO to 13YO and everyone was content!
Really convenient location being right by so many stores too when we realised we had forgotten a few things it wasn’t stressful as we could nip to Tesco/Lidl/Sainsburys etc!

Disliked The main dislike was the fact that you cannot wash up with the water always cutting out, and showering with the water always cutting out was a little frustrating there wasn’t enough power in the shower to actually wash the soap from our hair all 8 of us females that stayed there as a group struggled to wash the soap out from the lack of pressure and the water cutting out every few seconds.

Liked Very tidy and beautiful spot. Near to local shops, supermarkets litrally just around the corner, but would not have noticed from the camp ground as it felt so peacefull and quiet.

Staff were very attentive and friendly, the staff went beyond to accommodate us as we were 3 bookings and wanted to be next to each other. Although the site details stipulate they cant garentee pitches next to each other, the staff went out of their way to make sure we could pitch up together. One staff member also added that if we pre write in next they would try their best to do same again.

Security was brilliant and made us feel very safe camping with 7 little ones. Plent of free drinking water spots near to where we pitched up and all around the camp site. There was an abundance of toilets and shower blocks situated centrally and easy to get to even through the night. Toilet shower block was cleaned regularly. And there was recycle bins and washing up station with plenty of sinks.

The park area on site was very beautiful and well equipped, the 7 children loved every minuite to the point they have been asking when can we go back.

Would defo love to make another longer visit next year as there is so much to do in the area that 3 days could not fit in. Loved the fact it was only 20 mins from Bournemouth beach.

Disliked There was nothing to dislike about the camp grounds

Liked We love it here!

This is our second time staying at this site and we will return!

The site is large and secure and has amenities within walking distance. They regularly have food vans visit in the evening.

You are next to the A31 making it easy to access local attractions.

We were pitched near the river/stream which meant we shared the space with woodpeckers, bats, dragonflies and we enjoyed watching the squirrels in the morning.

Disliked The campsite is directly off from the A31. There is road noise all night and it’s a bit of a dash to merge onto this road from the campsite entrance. This did not bother us in the slightest and we like being close to a road that allows easy access to local attractions.

Electric grass pitch

Liked Very friendly site, really good amenities for the kids.
Lots of fresh water, really well laid out!
Pitches are nice and level and good power outlets.
Check in could not be easier and the guys on site are super helpful.
The soft-play kept my wee fella amused and he made lots of new friends with the other kids in the site and on the playground.
Given how horrendously dry the weather has been the pitches were in amazing condition which is testament to the team on the ground.

Disliked I'm being really picky here, the loo's are super clean but showing some signs of wear and the showers were not very warm.

Local attractions

St Leonards Farm is one of the closest sites to Bournemouth, with sandy beaches only seven miles away. There’s loads to do nearby if you’re feeling full of beans – try watersports such as windsurfing, sailing or surfing at Bournemouth’s artificial reef, or get busy with some go-karting, dry slope skiing, golf, fishing or horse-riding in the scenic surrounding countryside. Feeling a bit tired after all that sporty exertion? Take a picnic to nearby Moors Valley Country Park, which has a golf course, cycling routes and outdoor play area, or have a family day out at a plethora of local attractions including Paultons Park, Marwell Zoo, Beaulieu Motor Museum and Wimborne Minster Model Town. Kids will likely enjoy fossil hunting on the Jurassic Coast, and if they’re disappointed by not finding a T-rex skeleton right there and then, you can take them along to the Dinosaur Museum at Dorchester, then spoil them with a day out at Adventure Wonderland less than three miles from the park. The site is also an ideal stopover point for the Poole or Portsmouth cross-channel ferries.
