Charisworth Farm: View south

General

  • Peaceful site in remote countryside among grassy fields and woodland
  • Less than 10 mins’ drive to North Dorset Trailway walks, cycle rides
  • Firepits, lots of animals and spacious green areas for kids to play

Book a stay at Charisworth Farm for rural roams and animal antics: this site in the middle of the Dorset countryside is home to domesticated creatures ranging from cows, pigs and sheep to chicken, geese and horses – plus lots of local wildlife like deer and birds…

When not getting up close and personal with critters you can rest in grassland among trees at this leafy park, with plenty of space for adults to unwind while the children play. In the local area, walking and cycling can be had on the countryside bridleways – including on the North Dorset Trailway that runs from Poole to Sturminster Newton less than 10 minutes’ drive away.

In the evenings this site’s all about peaceful, quiet times around the firepit (music and parties aren’t permitted), with the added bonus of a quiet bar serving draught lager and cider, spirits and soft drinks on Friday nights. Every May Bank Holiday it gets a little livelier as it hosts the family-friendly charity event Teddy Rocks Festival.

Not here during the festivities? Amusement is still all around: an extreme-sports centre is just over a five-minute drive away for quad biking and paintballing and you can head over to the town of Blandford Forum (around 10 minutes by car) to browse the shops or check out the military communications and fashion museums.

If you’ve not got your fill of cute creatures, even more are at Monkey World - Ape Rescue Centre (20 minutes’ drive) away where you can seeing poorly primates being rehabilitated.

For sandy times instead, the beaches of Sandbanks and Studland are both a 40-minute drive from the site.

Please note

Your dog must be tattooed or microchipped.

The site does not accept breeds/crossbreeds listed in the Dangerous Dogs Act (i.e. Pit Bull Terrier, Japanese Tosa, Dogo Argentino, and Fila Brasileiro).

No hen/stag parties permitted via Pitchup.com.

Commercial vehicles (vehicles used for work-related purposes, carrying goods or fare-paying passengers) and sign-written vehicles are not permitted on site.

The site caters for families (immediate members) and couples only - bookings from all other forms of groups are not accepted.

Beautiful field with lovely views and good facilities (toilets & washing up). Also fun to play with the badminton stuff that had been put out and to have a fire using one of the unused fire pits.
Nice and near Monkeyworld, Tank Museum, and Studland, where a couple of guys erecting a marquee at the campsite had recommended a nice pub that does great food: the Bankes Arms.

We liked the site. We liked the farm tour and the friendly staff, and the cute barn bar. We liked the openness and that all campers had plenty space around their pitch. The communal sports equipment was a great idea.

    Disliked:

The cleanliness was poor. The toilet block wasn't cleaned once in our 5 day stay - it goes without saying it should be cleaned daily. On our last day there was no loo paper. The shower block also. It was filthy. This is unacceptable.

This place is a hidden little gem. Greeted with a very warm welcome after driving past horses and cows to a wonderfully well kept field, with its own little forest. Warm and powerful showers, clean toilets and even a bar serving draft beers and ciders. There’s was loads of other families so the kids all played together, leaving us to enjoy the views over north Dorset. The owners also organised a farm tour taking in pigs, more cows and sheep! Loved our stay and will definitely return. Can’t recommend enough

We stayed in one of the bell tents over the bank holiday weekend. We had a wonderful time! We are not a camping family so one of our first experiences.

Charisworth is a beautiful spot, the owners have done a terrific job. The bar, bbq and breakfasts were a great treat to make our stay feel extra special.

Thoroughly enjoyed the farm tour and just spending hours looking at the wonderful views. Despite being their busiest weekend of the year we never had a problem accessing the toilets or showers. Yes, the water in the showers weren't always hot but you're camping! It's pretty good all things considered.

We can recommend the tank museum which is a short drive away, our 2 boys loved it and the Royal Oak pub serves fantastic food!

    Disliked:

It was very cold at night - this is not a criticism, we just wish the weather was warmer. Come prepared as nights can be very chilly.

Local attractions

Dorset is known for its historic market towns like Wareham, a spot set beside the River Frome. Travel for 20 minutes to reach this destination with its Saxon walls then get out into the countryside at the Blue Pool former clay quarry filled in with turquoise water.

Wimborne’s another town worth a punt: turn up here for the minster and market (25 minutes drive) or travel the same distance to Dorchester for a teddy bear museum, writer Thomas Hardy’s old 19th-century house and the Maiden Castle ancient hillfort.

Poole (half an hour) also has historic buildings to check out, especially in the Old Town with its Georgian houses and at Poole Museum’s medieval Scaplen’s Court. Take boats to Brownsea Island from the harbour for woodland paths from which to see rare red squirrels bounding around.

For old vehicles instead of buildings and wildlife, The Tank Museum in Bovington Camp with displays of armoured fighting vehicles is 20 minutes away.
