A secret hideaway in the Dorset Countryside

Aug 2026

Liked Stunning views from the site. Feels like a proper secret hideaway surrounded by beautiful countryside. The facilities are pretty basic but we're not worried about toilets etc., as we have everything we need on board the camper anyway. Had a nice chat with the owner, very friendly chap. Yes there is limited hookups, looks like just one central point with multiple sockets, but again wasn't an issue for us, we have a super long power cable. The track really wasn't a problem to access the site, we've had much worse, just need to drive slowly and it should be perfectly OK, if you're lucky you might even be welcomed by some free-range geese and chickens on your drive through

Peaceful Site and perfectly located for Forde Abbey

Aug 2026

Liked Very peaceful, with lovely views and the site is not too large. Our pitch gave us very much appreciated shade from a long line of tall trees. Had a nice chat with the warden, he was a very nice guy, easy to talk to. A highlight was spending some private time with a dozen emus only a 5 minute walk away. We didn't investigate the toilet block as we had our own facilities in the van. We chose this site due to the easy 10 minute drive to Forde Abbey. We will be back again sometime time!

Disliked Nothing.

Lovely riverside location but is next to a noisy entertainment space

Jun 2026

Liked Lovely view of the river from our pitch. Campers were all very quiet. Pitches were level. Was a handy spot to start our tour of the Loire region as it is towards the western end. There was access to a river walk right by the campsite

Disliked There was a public entertainment space immediately next to the site, with a large number of locals drinking alcohol and very loud music thumping away during the day. But fortunately they did turn it off mid evening. No staff on site, which might be an issue if you need help with anything.

From the manager: Thank you very much for your detailed review and for recommending Camping Terre de Loire. We are delighted that you enjoyed the beautiful riverside views, the level pitches, the peaceful atmosphere within the campsite and the riverside walking route. Our location is indeed an excellent base for exploring the Loire Valley. We are sorry that the activity in the public space next to the campsite disturbed you during the day. This is a public area, and occasional events and activities can take place there, particularly during the summer. We are pleased that the music stopped in the early evening and that the campsite itself remained quiet. Regarding our automated reception, although there is no permanent staff presence at the reception desk, we remain available **24/7 by telephone** to assist our guests whenever needed. Thank you again for your feedback. We hope to have the pleasure of welcoming you back for another stay along the Loire.

Perfect stop off on our trip back to Cherbourg Ferry

Jun 2026

Liked We loved the tree covered pitches being right next to the river. Very quiet, everyone very considerate and friendly. Amazing large communal space, flat screen TV, games, comfy chairs etc. Large shower/toilet block, there was no queuing when we stayed in June. Baguette in the morning

Disliked Leaving!

Perfect location to explore the countryside North of Bridport

Jul 2026

Liked The campsite was in a great central location for all the sightseeing we had planned. Liked the showers being in separate cubicles rather than in one shared space. The road to the campsite was tight but not a problem at all, as the road is very quiet anyway. The tiny campsite cafe was nice idea, even though we never got to use it. Water at each hard standing pitch was also very much appreciated. Wifi was excellent, had no issues at all

Disliked The general volume of people talking was much louder than we're used to for adult only sites. We only stayed 2 nights, but from our limited experience of this site, we couldn't really class it as peaceful

From the manager: We are glad you enjoyed the site and exploring the Dorset countryside. It's good to hear our newly installed wifi network performed well for you. We do pride ourselves on being quiet and peaceful however it does sound like we've had a couple of 'noisier than usual' weekends recently. Whilst we love that guests are enjoying spending fun times together the request is quiet after 10pm and we are happy to remind guests of this if there is ever a problem. We are sorry you were inconvenienced this time.

Lovely staff and very convenient spot for the Gorge

Aug 2025

Liked Lovely campsite. Wide pitches, don't feel like you're on top of each other. Very quiet. Very convenient for walking to the Gorge, only a 15 minute walk through Lydford town. Staff lovely, extremely smiley and helpful

Incorrectly advertised - Was not Adult Only but had lovely views

Aug 2025

Liked Loved watching grazing sheep from our pitch, pretty special. There was also a funky horsebox for the toilet and shower which made us chuckle. Plus 360 degree lovely countryside views.

Disliked Incorrect Pitchup listing. We chose this campsite purely on the strength of it being advertised as 'Adult Only'. On arriving we were disappointed to find this was not the case at all, the van next to us had 2 young kids. Pitchup also stated no dogs permitted, but a van on the other side had a dog! Another issue is that the pitches are quite close together, the guy next to us was literally chain smoking, we couldn't sit outside and had to shut all our windows to avoid the disgusting smell.

From the manager: Dear Mike, Thank you for your review. We’re naturally disappointed to hear you didn’t fully enjoy your stay, especially as no concerns were raised with us at the time. We always encourage guests to speak to us if something isn’t quite right — in most cases we can resolve things immediately, and we would have been more than happy to do so for you. For clarity, the two children you mention were 12 and 13 years old and were staying by prior arrangement as part of a specialist holiday. We had assurances they would be quiet and respectful — which they were. On rare occasions we accept well-behaved children or dogs by special request, and always with these assurances in place. We take great pride in keeping our facilities exceptionally clean, and your 2-star cleanliness rating came as a surprise given the consistently positive feedback we receive in this area. With regard to smoking, while we fully understand it isn’t to everyone’s taste, it is a legal activity on a guest’s own pitch and something we cannot control. Had you mentioned it, we could have offered you a different pitch to make your stay more comfortable. As for dogs and animals, we are a small working farm with our own friendly dogs and livestock on site — this is part of the environment that many of our guests specifically choose us for. Booking a rural farm stay and then objecting to the presence of animals is perhaps always going to lead to disappointment. Following your stay, we reached to you in order to better understand your concerns and even offered a refund as a gesture of goodwill. You chose not to reply and instead left this review. We feel this is unfair and unnecessarily damaging, and in truth reflects more on the individual than the campsite. We would urge any potential guests to bear this in mind when reading.
