Golden Coast Leisure Park: A bird's eye view of the leisure park, overlooking Woolacombe Sands

General

  • Family-friendly north Devon holiday park with lots of activities
  • Under two miles from Woolacombe; Combe Martin 15 minutes
  • Surf machines, bungee trampoline, climbing wall, bowling and sauna

Join the thousands of sheep that flock to Woolacombe for the annual ovine hairdressing championships, with a trip to the green and pleasant gardens of the Golden Coast Holiday Village.

Visitors have access to masses of activities on site, from the pumped up (cycling, tennis, water flumes, four indoor and outdoor swimming pools), to the more leisurely (bowling, fishing, pitch and putt, sauna and solarium). Although there’s no shortage of mod cons, the site retains an old-school charm, not least thanks to its Old Mill Inn, which has been keeping people fed and watered since the seventeenth century.

In the evenings, guests can chill out and enjoy the valley views, grab a pint in the sports bar, or enjoy entertainment including game shows, family discos, tribute bands, comedians and illusionists.

'Messy mayhem' is promised at the various kids’ clubs for all age groups, and the little sprouts should have a fine time on the bungee trampoline and climbing wall; parents can confirm that their offspring actually do walk on water as they take to the inflatable human hamster balls in the pool, or show off their board skills on the Wavesurfer artificial surf machine. For a pit stop, try creating a family heirloom over a cuppa at the ceramic-painting café.

Please note

Reception is unmanned after 10 p.m.. Please inform the site while on your way there should you expect to arrive after this time, so that the team can provide information about your unit/pitch.

The outdoor swimming pool is open between 01/05 and 15/09 (subject to weather conditions).

At least one of the party members must be aged 18 or over.

No hen/stag parties permitted via Pitchup.com.

Group bookings of 6 or more adults are not permitted (couples and immediate family members excepted).

The site does not accept breeds/crossbreeds listed in the Dangerous Dogs Act (i.e. Pit Bull Terrier, Japanese Tosa, Dogo Argentino, and Fila Brasileiro).

Friendly staff, good electric hook-up and water access, very clean shower block and lots to choose from in terms of activities.

    Disliked:

No option for an awning and the pitches are very open - no privacy. You have to pay extra for the activities.

From the manager...

Thank you for taking the time to share your experience. We hope to welcome you back at a Verdant Leisure Park again in the future. Thanks, Team Verdant.

Facilities, staff, location of site, location of pitch, entertainment

    Disliked:

Pitch (awkward to get on to die to road and kerbs and not much room) , no bench in showers for clothing or bags, no hairdryers in shower unit, water very hot and short spray time impossible for small kids had to use swimming facilities instead.

From the manager...

Thanks for your feedback Kathryn. We have sent this to our Senior Management Team at the park to ensure that we look into the matters you have brought to our attention. Thanks, Team Verdant.

The toilet and shower facilities are excellent. We stayed on a gravel full service pitch which was perfect and was nice and secluded out of the way but not too far from main areas.
Loved the old mill pub had a great family meal and dog friendly.

    Disliked:

Only thing I’d say is it’s not really walkable to the beach as no pavement all the way. But there could be an alternative route that we didn’t find on our short stay.

Lots of things to do on the park. Great entertainment for pre-teens.
    Friendly staff and entertainment team.
    Wave surfer was great fun.

    Disliked:

Touring pitches are very mixed. Our first pitch was very sloped so we were going to have to stand the front of the van on stilts with the back touching the floor. Second pitch was too short. Finally got a pitch which was almost level, large size. Be prepared to ask for a pitch change.
Chemical disposal point was too far from pitch and poorly sign posted.

Local attractions

Venture out and you’ll find loads to see and do in this part of North Devon. Clamber down the steep cobbledy streets to the fishing boats at the fourteenth-century quay in Clovelly (50 minutes' drive), or pay a visit to Barnstaple Pannier Market (25 minutes) to browse the local foodstuffs, arts and crafts, and antiques. Watermouth Castle (15 minutes) has dungeon labyrinths and a gnome land (anyone who thinks this sounds like the stuff of nightmares will be pacified by the dreamy views…).

Nature lovers might enjoy an outing to the wilderness of Exmoor National Park to spot wild deer and ponies, choosing spots like the ruggedly gorgeous Valley of the Rocks (35 minutes) for wild goats and fossil hunting.

For other days out, the kids can come face-to-leg with scarily lifelike dinosaurs and go swimming with sea lions at Combe Martin Wildlife & Dinosaur Park (15 minutes), or just get spaced out by the rides at The Milky Way Adventure Park (45 minutes).

Must see

  • RHS Garden Rosemoor (15.9 miles)

National Trust

  • Arlington Court and the National Trust Carriage Museum (8.4 miles)
  • Heddon Valley (11.0 miles)
