General

  • Peaceful and laidback site among spectacular Devon views
  • A few minutes' drive from Woolacombe
  • Direct access to the Tarka Trail

Wave goodbye to rowdy groups and say hello to a comfy and more peaceful break at this laidback park: the new owners took over in May 2015 and have drawn deep on their collective 30+ years industry experience along with feedback from guests to assist this little site to evolve into what they reckon is one of the best natural camping sites in the area, nicely quiet but more lively in high season.

The ethos is to give guests a great camping time on a small site, and so there are no hidden costs for hot water, wifi or mobile phone charging, and the shops, clubs and launderettes are left to the bigger sites in the area. Good clean shower and toilet facilities and a sheltered washing-up area are always to hand.

Families staying at Bay View are chuffed to be able to sort their own entertainment for kids around the safe play areas and plenty of space to kick a ball or fly a kite. Dogs are (most rightly) also considered full family members here too, so the team has added a large dog walking area for furballs to run, chase balls and generally roll around.

Bay View Farmers is near the award-winning beach of Woolacombe (1.7 miles to be exact) and has spectacular views over to Lee Bay and up to the Bristol Channel; on a clear day you should be able to see the coastline of Wales. It has direct access to the Tarka Trail and good access into its pitches as it's just down the road from Woolacombe village.

Under 18s must be accompanied by their parents or legal guardians.

No hen/stag parties permitted via Pitchup.com.

Single-sex bookings of 6 or more people (couples and immediate family members excepted) are not permitted via Pitchup.com.

Do not book groups of pitches to enable families and friends to gather, as this causes a problem with noise. There are many good sites that allow this party atmosphere: this one does not.

A very friendly welcome and thorough brief on the amenities etc. Tidy, neat and well maintained. The pitches are HUGE! Very, very generous and plenty of room to spread out and for the little one to run around on - and that was without going to the play area!

Very clean site with plenty of showers and toilets.Washing up facilities were ok, but I would imagine not adequate when it is at the height of the season.Other facilities like wet suit wash area and dog washing area a really good idea. The site grass area very well maintained, and plenty of water filling points. The office staff were very nice and helpful and offered us hard standing as we were booked on a grass pitch, but it had rained heavily when we arrived and she was concerned that it would be too slippery for our motorhome. The "Tarka" trail which runs along the back of the site provides a beautiful, easy going access into Ilfracombe,as well as being very pretty and walking takes around one and three quarter hours stroll.

    Disliked:

I think the access into Woolacombe is very hard going,we were given a map of a short cut down to the beach through the fields which was very hard going especially the styles which were quite dangerous, and although we class ourselves as reasonably fit for our ages (60 &63) we could not have walked both ways, and the buses, although they ran regularly are quite expensive in that area, something to bear in mind,if,like us you have a large motorhome that you do not want to be taking everywhere.

We loved everything about this site! Our welcome pack and map was so useful and a thoughtful touch. The pitches were beautifully kept and manicured, the flower beds were bright and cheerful. Very friendly staff. We have never been to a campsite with such clean, well maintained ablutions. We appreciated the unisex toilets and showers that were big enough for two people. It felt more homely! We really appreciated the wetsuit cleaning and drying area. Perfect sea views! Overall it was a fantastic weekend that we thoroughly enjoyed! So much so we are booking in again this weekend. Two very happy campers.

Local attractions

Bay View Farmers has direct access in one direction to the wealth of wildflowers, insects and safe rides and rambles of the Tarka Trail, which you can amble or pedal all the way into Ilfracombe. In the other direction, various cycling networks run along the short distances to Croyde, Georgeham and Braunton.

Several highly scenic walks to take the dog to lead off the Tarka Trail, which can take you directly to Lee Bay, or you could follow the coastal path all the way to Bull Point Lighthouse.

The kids will go baa-my over the eccentric excitement of the Big Sheep, and the thrills of the Milky Way adventure park will send them into orbit. For more family fun, try Exmoor Zoo or Combe Martin Dinosaur Park, both a short distance from Woolacombe.
