Wave goodbye to rowdy groups and say hello to a comfy and more peaceful break at this laidback park: the owners of Bay View Farmers have drawn deep on their collective 30+ years industry experience since taking over, and have used feedback from guests to evolve into what they reckon is one of the best natural camping sites in the area, nicely quiet but more lively in high season. The ethos is to give guests a great time on a small site, and so there are no hidden costs for hot water, wifi or mobile phone charging, and the shops, clubs and launderettes are left to the bigger parks in the area. Good clean shower and toilet facilities and a sheltered washing-up area are always to hand. Families staying at Bay View are chuffed to be able to sort their own entertainment for kids around the safe play areas and plenty of space to kick a ball or fly a kite. Dogs are (most rightly) also considered full family members here too, so the team has added a large dog walking area for furballs to run, chase balls and generally roll around. Bay View Farmers is near the award-winning beach of Woolacombe (1.7 miles to be exact) and has spectacular views over to Lee Bay and up to the Bristol Channel; on a clear day you should be able to see the coastline of Wales. It has direct access to the Tarka Trail and is just down the road from Woolacombe village.

Directions from junction 27 on the M5: At junction 27, take the A361 and exit at Tiverton/Barnstaple. At the roundabout, take the A361 heading to Barnstaple and then take the fourth exit onto the A399. Turn left onto the A3123. At the roundabout, take the second exit onto B3343. After 1.6 miles turn right into Bay View Farmers. You have reached your destination! Public transport: Devon and Cornwall First bus service: 303 Barnstaple train station is a 20-minute drive away.

Bay View Farmers has direct access in one direction to the wealth of wildflowers, insects and safe rides and rambles of the Tarka Trail, which you can amble or pedal all the way into Ilfracombe. In the other direction, various cycling networks run along the short distances to Croyde, Georgeham and Braunton. Several highly scenic walks to take the dog to lead off the Tarka Trail, which can take you directly to Lee Bay, or you could follow the coastal path all the way to Bull Point Lighthouse. The kids will go baa-my over the eccentric excitement of the Big Sheep, and the thrills of the Milky Way adventure park will send them into orbit. For more family fun, try Exmoor Zoo or Combe Martin Dinosaur Park, both a short distance from Woolacombe.
