Browns farm caravan park

  • Family-owned site with spacious pitches on a Devon working farm
  • Within 15 minutes' drive of Exeter and the Jurassic Coast
  • Lots of walks in the local area; 10 minutes' walk to cosy village pub
Surrounded by lovely scenery next to the 14th-century farmhouse on a working farm, you’ll probably feel like you’re completely immersed in rural Devon when you stay at Browns Farm Caravan Park. And indeed you will be – the pitches at this family-owned site are spacious and peaceful, and a short drive away from footpaths for walking alone or with your dog by your side. Other outdoor activities including fishing, golf and horse riding can also be tracked down in the local area. Fittingly for a real rural location, there’s a lovely old pub 10 minutes’ walk away in the local village of Woodbury Salterton for drinks and dinner by the log fire under the traditional beams. There’s much more to this place than purely rural outings though, as it’s in an excellent spot for all sorts of days out. City days in Exeter and sandy ones in Budleigh Salterton require a drive of about 15 minutes or so, and there are plenty of attractions nearby too, from the rides of Crealy Theme Park to the floral displays of Bicton Park Botanical Gardens. Wherever you choose to roam, you’ll be coming back to peaceful pitches backed by hedgerows and with access to handy facilities including wifi, a washing-up area, a launderette, chemical disposal and a bathroom block with toilets and showers.

Liked Stayed here in our caravan with my young son and dog for 10 nights.
I would class this site as a back to basics camp site, nothing fancy.
Yes it is next to a working farm so expect tractors and cows, but i didn't find any of it disturbing noise wise.
It has a toilet block, 1 shower in the men's side, an accessible toilet, laundry room with washing machine and tumble dryer which you pay for, 2 additional showers in the same room as the laundry room so unisex. 2 outside sinks for dish washing and 1 sink in the laundry room.
Chemical toilet disposal/cleaning area.
Hardstandings are hard, bring a good claw hammer and solid pegs (claw hammer is good for getting the pegs back out the ground) a rubber mallet won't do it, might be due to the ground being so dry at present.
The site has a central grass area, good enough for a quick dog walk/play. It feels bigger than the photos show but is only about 30 pitches.
It's quiet, in a rural setting but not far from local beaches, Exmouth beach is good and worth a visit, or the beach down by the lifeboat station which dogs are allowed on, be mindful of tides if you walk towards the cliffs as you can get cut off.
In all, I would dismiss all the negative comments, it's very clear what this site is, if you want a site that has modern toilet blocks etc, then go for the sites that are £50+ a night.
This site is perfect as a base to go and explore, or if you want somewhere that is quiet and are happy with basics.
Yes there are families here, but also single campers and couples.
My son had a great time being able to play freely with other children on the central grass area, which is pretty much secure for them.
I would definitely pay to come here again and will probably return next year.
The owners are very nice too and very helpful.
Note, all roads to the site are single track, follow the directions given on their website.

Disliked There was nothing that I disliked about this site.

From the manager: Thank you for your review, we are pleased to hear that you had a good stay and indeed will visit again.
We welcome our canine guests and make no charge for their stay. As no dog walk is advertised it should not be unexpected. As a working livestock Farm we are unable to provide one. The large grass field adjacent to the site may well look a possibility but the grass grown there is for feed and as canine waste can be toxic and even fatal to bovines it is simply not an option. There are number of dog walking options close by many featured on our notice board and we are always happy to give advice.

Liked Fantastic family-run site on a lovely working farm near Exeter! We stayed in our campervan this August and loved the spacious pitches that back right onto private hedgerows. Facilities are basic but kept absolutely immaculate, including great hot showers and a handy card-operated laundry room.

there’s a lovely old pub the Diggers Rest, 10 minutes’ walk away in the local village of Woodbury Salterton for dinner, a little pricing but worth it.

Brilliant base for exploring Woodbury Common and the beaches at Exmouth. Highly recommended!

Electric hardstanding and grass pitch (plus)

Liked Everything. We got a warm and friendly welcome, our pitch was great - very spacious (they all were). The showers and toilets were spotlessly clean, and though we didn’t use them, there was a washing machine and tumble dryer (not often found on small sites). The site was very busy with a happy atmosphere and though there were families with small children, it was very quiet and peaceful. About a 15 minute walk down the hill is a lovely pub; the Diggers Rest, serving good food. Though there site is quite remote, there is a bus stop outside the site, and many tourist places are only a short drive away. Some reviews say this is a ‘bog standard’ site - we disagree and would not hesitate to recommend it to others.

From the manager: Thank you for your review and for visiting our site. The facilities are checked daily and we have seen no water pressure issues. The shower block is cleaned at approximately 11am it is never completely closed . We always make sure that both a shower and a toilet are available during this time it is simply a question of asking which one is free.

Local attractions

Time to stretch your legs? The closest spot is Woodbury Common, a mile away and a handy spot for dog walking, but there’s much to explore as the site sits on the edge of the East Devon Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty. And of course there’s always the South West Coast Path – the seven-mile stretch from Budleigh Salterton to Sidmouth is a particularly rewarding one. Speaking of the coast, Budleigh Salterton (15 minutes’ drive) is a lovely place for a day out on the sandy beach, but you could also explore the offerings of Exmouth (15 minutes) or Dawlish (half an hour). Keeping it countryside instead, there’s fishing at Hogsbrook Lakes (five minutes), golf at Woodbury Park (five minutes) and the chance to coo over cute animals at either World of Country Life (15 minutes) or The Donkey Sanctuary (20 minutes). To keep the kids entertained for a full day, try the rides, shows, play areas and animal attractions at Crealy Theme Park (five minutes).
