Browns farm caravan park

  • Family-owned site with spacious pitches on a Devon working farm
  • Within 15 minutes' drive of Exeter and the Jurassic Coast
  • Lots of walks in the local area; 10 minutes' walk to cosy village pub
Surrounded by lovely scenery next to the 14th-century farmhouse on a working farm, you’ll probably feel like you’re completely immersed in rural Devon when you stay at Browns Farm Caravan Park. And indeed you will be – the pitches at this family-owned site are spacious and peaceful, and a short drive away from footpaths for walking alone or with your dog by your side. Other outdoor activities including fishing, golf and horse riding can also be tracked down in the local area. Fittingly for a real rural location, there’s a lovely old pub 10 minutes’ walk away in the local village of Woodbury Salterton for drinks and dinner by the log fire under the traditional beams. There’s much more to this place than purely rural outings though, as it’s in an excellent spot for all sorts of days out. City days in Exeter and sandy ones in Budleigh Salterton require a drive of about 15 minutes or so, and there are plenty of attractions nearby too, from the rides of Crealy Theme Park to the floral displays of Bicton Park Botanical Gardens. Wherever you choose to roam, you’ll be coming back to peaceful pitches backed by hedgerows and with access to handy facilities including wifi, a washing-up area, a launderette, chemical disposal and a bathroom block with toilets and showers.

What customers say

A well-maintained site with spacious, level pitches, many featuring water hook-ups. Facilities, including toilets and showers, are consistently described as clean. Staff are frequently praised for being friendly and welcoming. The location is convenient for exploring Exeter and coastal areas, with a local pub within easy walking distance. Some guests note the rural setting involves farm smells and occasional noise, while others find the WiFi unreliable. Access via narrow country lanes is also mentioned.

From the manager: Thank you for taking the time to leave a review. We are sorry to hear that you didn't enjoy your visit. Our location is as described, We are a basic site with basic facilities and our pricing structure reflects this. The facilities are cleaned to a high standard daily and are currently in the process of being decorated .We are always on hand to assist our guests with any issues or queries such as moving dates when a guest has booked the wrong ones .Even at busy times when this is not always an easy task as happened with your reservation. Our wifi is free of charge and we are constantly trying to improve the service via our provider. We were unaware you were experiencing fly issues they are almost inevitable at certain times of year, but, had we been asked we could have advised on some preventative measures.

Liked Simple basic campsite in a good location
Owner friendly and helpful.

Disliked Toilets dated and need a deep clean.
Some noise overnight from an intermittent motor or generator somewhere nearby.

From the manager: Thank you for taking the time to leave a review. We are indeed a basic campsite and our pricing structure and facilities offered reflect that. The shower block is cleaned well daily and any issued raised in between that time dealt with. We are currently in the process of decorating the facilities but that has to pause during busy periods. We have no plans for any major refurbishment during these difficult economic times when inevitably pitch fees would need to increase and the function offered would be the same although a little more aesthetically pleasing.
We operate no generators or any other type of machinery during the night had we been contacted during your stay we may have been able to offer some sort of explanation . We live adjacent to the site and have heard nothing so this is rather a puzzle.

Liked Friendly welcome. We booked the last available pitch on the site so it was tucked away in a corner but shady and quiet so quite happy. Site still had a calm, family atmosphere even though it was full. I think I read in the earlier reviews that the washrooms were to be upgraded. This would really improve them as they do look a bit jaded. The showers, however, are lovely and hot and you don't have to keep pressing them on! Only stayed one night but we will be back!

Disliked Nothing.

Electric hardstanding and grass pitch

Liked A lovely central area and shadey tree in the centre with large pitches surrounding it. Quiet, and friendly. The facilities were immaculately clean, and a helpful array of notices and information.
Great local pub, and a dog walk with stream close to the pub, leading to a fabulous farm shop (dont miss these!)
Previous reviews mentioned cow smells and farm noises etc - get real, what else do you expect from a working farm and rural location! It all added to the experience and wasnt at all overwhelming. And as for the odd newly created cobwebs- for goodness sake, how petty. And we were grateful for the local lane, it helped us get to and from the site, in fact, a vital requirement hahaha. (But maybe the owners could do something about the roadworks, about 10 miles away?)
With free wifi (although sporadic- we are in the country!).

Disliked Nothing

Local attractions

Time to stretch your legs? The closest spot is Woodbury Common, a mile away and a handy spot for dog walking, but there’s much to explore as the site sits on the edge of the East Devon Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty. And of course there’s always the South West Coast Path – the seven-mile stretch from Budleigh Salterton to Sidmouth is a particularly rewarding one. Speaking of the coast, Budleigh Salterton (15 minutes’ drive) is a lovely place for a day out on the sandy beach, but you could also explore the offerings of Exmouth (15 minutes) or Dawlish (half an hour). Keeping it countryside instead, there’s fishing at Hogsbrook Lakes (five minutes), golf at Woodbury Park (five minutes) and the chance to coo over cute animals at either World of Country Life (15 minutes) or The Donkey Sanctuary (20 minutes). To keep the kids entertained for a full day, try the rides, shows, play areas and animal attractions at Crealy Theme Park (five minutes).
