Browns farm caravan park

  • Family-owned site with spacious pitches on a Devon working farm
  • Within 15 minutes' drive of Exeter and the Jurassic Coast
  • Lots of walks in the local area; 10 minutes' walk to cosy village pub
Surrounded by lovely scenery next to the 14th-century farmhouse on a working farm, you’ll probably feel like you’re completely immersed in rural Devon when you stay at Browns Farm Caravan Park. And indeed you will be – the pitches at this family-owned site are spacious and peaceful, and a short drive away from footpaths for walking alone or with your dog by your side. Other outdoor activities including fishing, golf and horse riding can also be tracked down in the local area. Fittingly for a real rural location, there’s a lovely old pub 10 minutes’ walk away in the local village of Woodbury Salterton for drinks and dinner by the log fire under the traditional beams. There’s much more to this place than purely rural outings though, as it’s in an excellent spot for all sorts of days out. City days in Exeter and sandy ones in Budleigh Salterton require a drive of about 15 minutes or so, and there are plenty of attractions nearby too, from the rides of Crealy Theme Park to the floral displays of Bicton Park Botanical Gardens. Wherever you choose to roam, you’ll be coming back to peaceful pitches backed by hedgerows and with access to handy facilities including wifi, a washing-up area, a launderette, chemical disposal and a bathroom block with toilets and showers.

What customers say

This is a friendly, quiet, and well-maintained working farm campsite with spacious pitches and good facilities. Many guests appreciate the peaceful rural setting, clean toilets and showers, and convenient location for exploring the local area, including nearby pubs and transport links. Some minor points raised include occasional road noise, inconsistent WiFi, and farm smells, which are generally accepted given the rural nature of the site.

Fully-serviced hardstanding and grass pitch (premium)

Liked Good layout - pitches partially separated by hedging. The centre of the field with a beautiful tree is left empty. Good loo/shower block. On the edge if a village with a pub 10 mins walk away. Next village with 2 pubs, grocery and Chinese takeaway is 20 mins walk.

Electric hardstanding and grass pitch

Liked Lovely location, nice welcome, great pitch, good wifi . Nice to have all facilities and showers in the laundry room were fab. Information about walks bus times , things to do and pubs pinned in laundry room. Quiet and calm.

Disliked Road a bit tight but they do give directions on web site. No dog walk . Elson point needs improving to low to ground some splash back, not the owners fault however people dont clean the hose pipe and should have respect for others and the owners.

From the manager: Thank you for taking the time to leave a review we are pleased that you liked our site and indeed will visit again.
As a working livestock farm we are unable to provide a dog walk. Grass fields close to the site may look an option but the grass grown is for feed and as such we cannot risk contamination as canine waste can be toxic and indeed fatal to bovines. We do not advertise
a dog walk but are close to various options and are happy to give directions.
Thank you for your comments on our waste disposal system it is of a standard design and to raise the sides would possibly make it difficult for our less able guests, Another option is to book one of our four "premium" pitches where you can connect directly to the drain if this is preferable.

Liked A nice peaceful site on a farm with the smell of cows which who could not love after all its what you'd expect from a farm. The toilets and showers were clean. Easy to find site. There's a nice pub down the road literally at the end of the road from the camp site. Walks start up the adjoining road which you can do in a loop thatl bring you back to the pub down the road. Friendly hosts to.

Liked Not a big site
Clean facilities (bit dated and a few cobwebs is ok!)
Friendly Welcome from Stuart but a self check in would be quicker - email us the pitch number as the facilities are obvious. Thanks
Wifi was good as no O2 signal

On bus route to Exmouth

Disliked By the road but village traffic so it was ok to put up with.
Hearing the cows in the barn in the heat- I hoped they would be put out into the field.

From the manager: Thank you for your review we are pleased to hear that you will visit again. We are happy for returning guests familiar with our site and the area to contact us on the day of their arrival when we will advise them of their pitch number. We have no control over mobile phone coverage. EE works best here others can be a little patchy. We have one row of pitches which are adjacent to an unclassified road but separated by a well established hedge. The road can be busy at peak times however this row is popular as it benefits from the evening sun. Should you not wish to be close to the road it is always possible to put this request on your booking and we will try and assist subject to availability. We routinely remove cobwebs but spiders are very efficient and are able to construct a new one in 30-40minutes. The facilities are currently being decorated but this has to pause during busy spells. A major upgrade would involve considerable expense which would inevitably be reflected in an increase in pitch fees .Not something we would consider during these uncertain economic times when the function offered would be the same just perhaps more aesthetically pleasing.
We have no cows at this location they are on another part of the Farm. Youngstock are housed in the barn and whilst to have them outside would have pleased you they would have been far from content. Bovines prefer cool weather and find the heat very stressful so their health and well being is better achieved by them being in the shade. They do get a little vocal when they hear a tractor arriving and also when seeking a "boyfriend". As we are advertised as a working Farm this shouldn't be unexpected.

Liked Welcoming, facilities well looked after and clean, lovely, pleasant site. Liked water and drainage on each pitch.

Disliked Smell of muck spreading - but, it is a working farm so we were not that bothered and knew that when we booked.

Local attractions

Time to stretch your legs? The closest spot is Woodbury Common, a mile away and a handy spot for dog walking, but there’s much to explore as the site sits on the edge of the East Devon Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty. And of course there’s always the South West Coast Path – the seven-mile stretch from Budleigh Salterton to Sidmouth is a particularly rewarding one. Speaking of the coast, Budleigh Salterton (15 minutes’ drive) is a lovely place for a day out on the sandy beach, but you could also explore the offerings of Exmouth (15 minutes) or Dawlish (half an hour). Keeping it countryside instead, there’s fishing at Hogsbrook Lakes (five minutes), golf at Woodbury Park (five minutes) and the chance to coo over cute animals at either World of Country Life (15 minutes) or The Donkey Sanctuary (20 minutes). To keep the kids entertained for a full day, try the rides, shows, play areas and animal attractions at Crealy Theme Park (five minutes).
