Great for families with plenty of space to walk

Friendly and traditional farm site with fantastic views over Exmoor

‘Traditional and uncommercial’ is how the owners of West Middlewick Farm describe their home, making it a champion choice for a chilled break in mid-Devon countryside. It’s also rather a pretty place to have a hol. On arrival, eye up the excellent views out over Exmoor National Park from the main site, a four-acre field circled by farm walks, then amble over to the carp fishing lake to angle for the afternoon. It’s not just about peaceful pursuits hereabouts, though – the Gibson family who own the site say there’s plenty to do, spanning from theatre and film to history and heritage, in the nearby area. Tiverton (15 minutes’ drive) is home to a castle and edges a canal, while Exmoor (half an hour) has walking trails, a cracking coastline and historic villages to explore. Back at the park, a small shop sells the farm’s produce – including raw milk and free-range meat – and stocks other locally sourced ingredients such as butter, cheese, ice cream, fresh fruit and vegetables, jams, chutney and Devon fudge too. Fancy picking up a souvenir? Homemade soap and sheepskin are top trinkets to take away. And as for food? Spread out on your spacious, level pitch for a picnic or pull up a pew at one of the nearby and order a freshly cooked meal.

Liked I thought my last stay at another farm was brilliant. This one was brill plus!
Toilets and showers were clean, bins at entrance, pitches very good.
Bonus was having a superb farm shop and a cafe which looked fairly new. Excellent food served for my lunch.
They had lodges too which looked cosy. 11 out of 10!

Liked What a great little find, we originally booked in for 2 nights but as we are having such a great time have booked for another night.
The shop is amazing, I’ve never seen so many things in a farm shop before really love this place and will definitely be back the next time we are back down here

Camping pod

Liked Stayed one night in the pod with my family in their camper nearby. We had a great time, this is a very relaxed site on a working farm - the kids loved the freedom and space. I loved the pod, it was basically camping but with the benefit of a proper bed! Owners are great and the campsite is a real bonus, you must try the raw milk

Disliked Nothing and not a reflection on the site it's just quite remote which is great if you want peace and quiet :-)

Liked Tranquil place with picturesque views and plenty of space to pitch your tent. The Farm shop is an added bonus.

Disliked Not really a dislike, but minor comments
1. It makes more sense to have the showers down closer to the pitches, instead of up and adjacent to the Farm shop parking used by all visitors.
2. Strong WiFi signal at the shop area, but no WiFi at all at the pitch grounds at the bottom

Clip-clop around the countryside from The Rose & Crown in Calverleigh, which organises horse riding lessons (15 minutes’ drive), or take to Tiverton (around the same distance) to poke around the town’s castle and meander by its canal. Another place to peer at is Knightshayes Court, a turreted house and garden with a tearoom (25 minutes), while Bickleigh Mill – dating back to the 18th century and with a pottery studio for clay-based classes – is also worth a gander. If you’ll be keeping adventures alfresco, set off on the scenic Tarka Line rail journey, starting in Exeter (40 minutes) and finishing in Barnstaple. Admission

Admission is only permitted after registering at reception.
At least one of the party members must be aged 18 or over.

Arrivals and departures

Late arrivals must notify the park as soon as possible. Your booking will be held for 24 hours. After this period the management reserves the right to relet your unit.
No refunds/discounts for inclement weather, late arrivals or early departures.
Units will be allocated on arrival.

Dogs

Dogs must be kept on leads and supervised at all times.
Guide dogs are allowed on site free of charge.

General

Quiet hours must be respected between 10:30 p.m. and 7 a.m..
The fishing lakes are stocked with carp.
The management reserves the right to deny access or terminate the stay of those guests whose behaviour is deemed unsuitable. No refunds will be offered.
The site is not liable for any refund in the event of force majeure.
This site does have a catch-and-return fishing policy in place.
