  • Well-maintained wild camping field on a golf course in rural Devon
  • A 10-minute drive from the Jurassic Coast, Branscombe and Sidmouth
  • Golf and snacks on site; beaches, coastal hikes, pubs and shops nearby
Thorn Campsite is a secluded spot in Devon countryside, near Jurassic Coast beaches and seaside resorts – and here’s the thing – it comes with its very own golf course. Yes, golfers pack your clubs and come to enjoy a few rounds on a nine-hole rural course. The flat and neatly manicured camping field has electric hook-ups, loos, a washing-up area and showers, and it’s just a short stroll from the golf course. The clubhouse cleverly doubles as a snack bar with additional loos and showers for site guests, and there’s a wifi connection if you need to keep friends informed of your golfing successes. But it’s not just about the golfing. Families, couples and dogs are also welcome at Thorn, as there’s plenty hereabouts to keep everyone entertained. Take the kids rummaging for fossils along the Jurassic Coast (10 minutes’ drive), and if they have behaved really, really well, the best treat ever is feeding time at The Donkey Sanctuary (five minutes). You can choose from an abundance of lovely beaches along the coastline (Salcombe Regis and Seaton to name just two – both less than 15 minutes’ drive), and the South West Coast Path (10 minutes) reveals swathes of rugged headlands for long-distance hikers. Sidmouth supermarkets will keep you fed and watered, and if you want a night off from cooking, there are traditional pubs in Branscombe (10 minutes) and a whole host of restaurants in Budleigh Salterton (25 minutes).

Electric optional grass tent pitch

Liked Flat, clean campsite, friendly, helpful owners. Toilets and showers clean. Plenty of space for your pitch. You choose where you pitch. Loved how there was no set check in/out times…. So after a long drive - I was there and set up for 10.30am so I could enjoy the rest of my day.

Superb location for the beaches (just a 20 min walk away) and the south west coastal path.
Ideal for walks. I will definitely be back!

Disliked Nothing! This site is spot on!

Liked We enjoyed our 1 night stay here a few nights ago ~ We found the owners to be very helpful, and welcoming; we were shown around the campsite and to the facilities, and were even given toilet paper too! What's not to like?!

Liked Nothing...

Disliked The owner wasn't very helpful.
Said they had WIFI when I booked, nope!
The toilets and showers were a shambles! They didn't even supply toilet paper???
I stayed on a Saturday night and wasn't warned about a party they were having!

Electric optional grass motorhome pitch

Liked Really quiet site, very flat, loads of room for the kids and dog to roam. Our friends little own really enjoyed seeing all the vehicles about, watching the driving range and collecting the golf balls. The owners are really sweet and will happily have a chat and help where they can..

Disliked There is only one shower block which was a way from our pitch. The block and the stand alone toilet/shower needs an update. Especially the stand alone toilet where the light didn’t work and you couldn’t lock the door (unless you wanted to get locked in!) saying that, this is a small thing and didn’t take away from our camp.

Electric optional grass tent pitch

Liked A lovely site where we felt welcomed. Great location for easy access to many local towns which we visited. Great pub a short drive away. Rural location makes it quiet (except for the occasional donkey chat) The driving range was able to be used cheaply and throughout the day and evening which was a particular hit with my teenage son.
