General

  • Family-run adults-only site in eight acres of farmland near Paignton
  • Spacious site with views out towards the moors
  • Licensed summer restaurant, bar, clubhouse and spotless amenities

Widdicombe Farm Touring Park is a family-run, adults-only site, set in eight acres of scenic farmland in an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty. There are no winding narrow country lanes to negotiate so no tiresome reversing if you should meet other traffic on the way to the park.

The site serves home-cooked meals in its licensed restaurant from Easter to the end of September, so you can come here to relax and let someone else cook your evening meal or Sunday lunch. The restaurant has a cosy and friendly atmosphere and also provides takeaways.

Gordon's bar on site has a good selection of beers, wines and ciders. Over the Easter break and then from the spring bank holiday to the end of September, there's live entertainment several nights a week.

Other on-site facilities include a small shop and a clubhouse; there's also a modern toilet and shower block, kept to spotless standards by staff.

Please note

Single-sex bookings of 3 or more people (couples and immediate family members excepted) are not permitted via Pitchup.com.

Commercial vehicles (vehicles used for work related purposes, carrying goods or fare-paying passengers) and sign-written vehicles are not permitted on site.

The site does not accept breeds/crossbreeds listed in the Dangerous Dogs Act.

Group bookings where over half of the group is under 25 are not accepted via Pitchup.com.

During low season (October and March to mid-May, with the exception of Easter and Bank Holidays), the bar, restaurant and shop will only open when the customer demand is sufficient (to be decided at the discretion of on-site management).

The Bees Knees of Caravan Sites. 11/11/2017

This is our second year and third visit to Widdicombe Farm, (from Warrington) this is without a doubt the best touring caravan site, not only in Devon but covering Somerset and Cornwall as well. The staff are as helpful as can be, "Poppy's" cafe cum restaurant is super, great food especially the breakfast, nothing is too much trouble for the staff to make sure that you remember the food from "Poppy's" .
Thelma and Gordon ("Iv'e got a brand new combine harvester") are the owners, what a beautiful couple they are, always welcoming and happy to see you.
The evening entertainment in "Gordon's Bar" is unsurpassable, especially
Andy Oakley, you will need tissues for the tears of laughter, this man is magic, you have been warned.

Showers and toilets put our Hospitals to shame, they are totally spotless always smell fresh, and are heated with enough hot water to sink a battleship, what more could you wish for,
The reception area has various items for sale, washing up liquid, shampoo, loo rolls, eggs and other bits and bobs for sale.
Tuesday night 7.30 the fish and chip van arrives outside reception, get there early 'cos there is usually a queue of between 10 to 20 people waiting to be served, the food is superb.
The pitches are level, the views are good because the site is tiered which means that you can see the countryside rather than looking into your neighbours caravan.

Close to Torquay but also "Trago Mills" if you have not been there you have not lived, center of the universe for shopping from a brilliant breakfast to a fishing rod to a stuffed teddy bear, WARNING take your credit card if your wife or someone else's wife is with you.

Go see for yourself, this is a superior adults only touring caravan site, we cannot wait to return.

    Disliked:

The toilet cassette disposal opposite "Gordon's Bar" is just a hole in the ground, which I have mentioned in the past to management, this situation is totally unacceptable, trying to empty your toilet cassette means that your feet/ shoes and legs get splashed with the contents of your cassette, not only unhygienic but most unpleasant, there is no viable excuse not to put a toilet bowl cemented into place so will elevate this problem, after all every fully serviced pitch on site has this convenience. This would also be of great assistance to those of us that have mobility problems due to age and or health So come on Widdicombe Farm, "don't spoil the ship for a Ha'penny worth of tar", you are better than that,
Kind wishes, Sue and Billy Boland.

From the manager...

Thank you for your comments. Now that you are a little familiar with the layout of the park you are able to ask for certain areas or pitches that would make it easier for you with regard to emptying waste etc.. We are more than happy to get you on the right pitch so that you can just sit back and relax.

Very friendly welcome and good facilities, pitches were fairly level. Road noise from the A380 during the day but no problem in the evening or during the night.

    Disliked:

Not a dislike as such but perhaps more lighting on the pitches would help moving around the site on these Autumnal evenings. Not impressed with the wifi usage policy provided by a seperate company.

From the manager...

We try to meet all the needs of our guests and are very pleased that you found our park, staff and facilities met your expectations. We will certainly have a look at the lighting to see whether improvements are required. Thank you for letting us know your thoughts on this matter.

The site, only downside was you don't allow children which is fair enough but we had to listen to dogs crying when they were left in the evening, and pitch 43 was too close to the bins so unfortunately we ended up with flies which was very annoying, otherwise the site itself was very good.

    Disliked:

From the manager...

We hope that overall you enjoyed your stay. Now you've been here hopefully you had a good look round to see where you want to be sited next time. It is an Adults only touring park here and clearly advertised as such which explains why we do not have children here but it sounds like you didn't really mind that anyway. We'll certainly help you find a more suitable pitch for your next stay.

    Disliked:

The music festival that appeared near opposite the site that went on overnight with no consideration to anyone else, although not the sites fault they should have known it was on but hadn't mentioned anything

From the manager...

It wasn't a music festival but a private function taking place on the site of the old Market Field opposite our park. Had it been an official festival we would of known but the land owner opposite has no obligation to inform us of his intentions when organising a private function. However, letters are on the way to Torbay Council informing them of the impact the inappropriate noise levels had on our guests so hopefully this will not happen again. An unfortunate and hopefully one off event during your stay. As you state in your review our park does normally facilitate a tranquil and friendly atmosphere. We certainly hope to see you again.

Fantastic privately run site with entertainment every evening. Toilet/shower facilities amazing. Restaurant on site although we didn't have the opportunity to try it out so that is a great reason to go back. Bus stops 20 minute walk away but it's a nice safe walk or can get a lift to bus stop from the site for a small charge

    Disliked:

    Nothing to dislike

From the manager...

Next time you visit you really must try Poppies restaurant. Cathy cooks a superb steak although everything she does on the menu is delicious. Hope to see you again soon.

Everything, the grounds are beautiful and well looked after. The toilets and showers are amazing, the best I have ever seen. The food at Poppy's is excellent and the staff are exceptionally helpful and pleasant.

No shop other than a basic shop at the restaurant which is not open in the afternoon

From the manager...

We are very proud of the fact that our facilities are kept clean and well maintained and it is always appreciated by us and the staff when our efforts are recognised. Thank you. Poppies has done well this year and had lots of positive comments which we have passed on to Barry & Cathy, glad you enjoyed the food and their cheery manner. As i'm sure you appreciate it's a difficult balance knowing when to have the shop open as most often through the day most people are off site exploring the beautiful area we live in but the reception staff will try and sell the basics from the shop when Barry & Cathy are not there. We hope to see you again.

So glad you enjoyed your stay with us. I will ask Club Wifi the wifi provider to check the wifi on the park as you say you had a problem although I wasn't aware of any issues around the time of your stay. It is usually a very reliable service. We look forward to welcoming you back in the near future.
