General

  • Adults-only farm site 10 minutes from English Riviera beaches
  • Outdoor haven: trails, tors and moors of Dartmoor within 30 minutes
  • Fully licensed summer restaurant and bar on site

When the choice between beachy hols on the English Riviera and lush wanders in stunningly scenic national parks leaves you dithering, make your decision a doddle with a stay at Widdicombe Farm Touring Park, a family-run and adults-only site 10 minutes’ drive from the seaside town of Paignton on the Devon coast.

The site is about 15 minutes from the South Devon Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty and half an hour from Dartmoor National Park, so there are plenty of spectacularly green vistas to hike, bike or drive through within easy reach – not to mention the waterfalls, river banks and craggy moors to get snap happy for.

If the first thing into your suitcase was a swimming cossie, you’ve packed well for this particular getaway: Paignton’s Preston Sands beach is less than 10 minutes away (there’s a shuttle service from site), so nab a colourful hut or claim your stretch of sand, then get to sunbathing, take a dip or go for a ramble along the seafront. If your quick sandy stroll seems to be getting legs, you can turn it into a long-distance jaunt by picking up the South West Coast Path at either end of the beach.

There’s a small shop on site for groceries if you fancy bringing picnic supplies on your day trips, or you can hold off for a home-cooked dinner at Poppies, the on-site restaurant (open from Easter to September). Once you’re full of munch, wander over to Gordon’s bar for a drink, or to take in the live entertainment.

Please note

Single-sex bookings of 3 or more people (couples and immediate family members excepted) are not permitted via Pitchup.com.

Commercial vehicles (vehicles used for work-related purposes, carrying goods or fare-paying passengers) and sign-written vehicles are not permitted on site.

Bookings must not be for more than 14 consecutive nights.

The site does not accept breeds/crossbreeds listed in the Dangerous Dogs Act.

Group bookings where more than half of the group is under 25 are not accepted via Pitchup.com.

During low season (March to mid-May, and October, with the exception of Easter and bank holidays), the bar, restaurant and shop will only open when the customer demand is sufficient.

From the manager...

Thank you for your review. We're glad you enjoyed our parks facilities and the peace and quiet of a countryside location that is adults only. Devon is very hilly and Torbay has a few of them but hopefully that will not deter you returning to us sometime in the future.

Lack of showers and space between caravans and rows of vans opposite was tight

From the manager...

We've not had a comment saying someone who thought we didn't have enough showers before as there are 23 showers shared in our 3 amenity buildings. Perhaps you didn't realise we have other amenity buildings for you to use throughout the park. Our park was originally started and designed when everyone had smaller cars and caravans. It can get a little tight at times more often when people have underestimated the length of their unit. Hopefully you had a good look round whilst you were here and have found area on the park and different pitch types that you might like to stay on next time. Just let us know in the office when you book and we'll certainly try and help get you in the bets place to enjoy another stay with us.

    Internet charges
Bar only open in the evenings

From the manager...

The internet is provided by a very reliable company called Club Wifi who provide a very safe and secure service and i will forward your comments regarding their charges on to them as this doesn't come under our direct control. With regard to the bar, we used to open during the day however we found that it really wasn't supported and didn't prove viable so we keep it to evenings which suits the majority of our guests as more often than not you're all out and about during the day enjoying the beautiful Devon Countryside and coastline. This isn't to say that it will always be the case. We monitor all customer feedback as this is a measure of our performance and our guests needs so we can always change our times to meet the demand.

Location excellent. Decent sized pitches. Facilities spotless and well maintained. Lovely little on site restaurant which is good value. Clubhouse hosts a variety of acts. Staff are extremely friendly and well organised.

    Disliked:

Pitches are roomy but can feel a little crammed in when the site is busy when you are sat out next to someone’s car. Pitches are on lots of levels and it can be very difficult to reverse on or turn around if you go wrong. Site a little bit too mature for us. Some pitches have wonderful views but not many and others can’t see anything- charge extra for this but also get full service.

From the manager...

We're pleased that you enjoyed your stay with us and your appreciation of our clean facilities and friendliness of our staff will be mentioned to all concerned as they work very hard and hearing good comments is always a good thing . We hope that you took a good walk around the park so that you can see each field has something different to offer and this would help you if you revisited us as you could choose a specific pitch or area.

    On top booking fee.....

From the manager...

We're pleased you had a good holiday with us and enjoyed our facilities. The staff work very hard to keep the toilets/showers clean and tidy. Sorry you find the booking fee a small problem. It is only a small amount and is not an unusual charge to apply. We do keep it to a minimum and be assured we will continue to keep it as low as we can. We hope to see you again when you are next wanting a holiday in this area.

Local attractions

This is Agatha Christie country, so if you’re looking to solve the mystery of what to do during your hols, you're sorted here too. Make your way into Torquay, a 15-minute drive, for the Agatha Christie Mile – a walking tour of spots that inspired the author – and Kents Cavern, a prehistoric cave that served as Hampsley Cavern in her novel The Man in the Brown Suit. For a glimpse of Christie’s personal life, head to Greenway House at Brixham, where she spent summer and Christmas hols.

If Greenway House whet your appetite for stately homes, zip along to Compton Court (five minutes) for house and garden tours, or Cockington Country Park (10 minutes) for strolls around the extensive grounds and a glimpse of Cockington Court (now a craft centre). Not enough? Venture further afield for Bradley Manor, Coleton Fishacre, Buckfast Abbey and the 16-sided A la Ronde, all within 35 minutes.

There are plenty of museums, steam trains and model villages nearby to keep history buffs entertained, but those who prefer more of a living and breathing experience should pad over to Paignton Zoo or Living Coast aquarium (both within 15 minutes) instead.

Must see

  • Living Coasts (2.7 miles)
