  • Welcoming site with splendid sea views a 15-minute drive from Salcombe
  • South West Coast Path five minutes’ drive; Dartmoor Zoo 45 minutes
  • Shop selling local produce; five minutes’ drive from a beach
Splendid beaches, sheltered coves and spectacular coastal trails are all within fairly easy reach at Karrageen Caravan and Camping Park. This welcoming and well-maintained Devon site is only about five minutes’ drive from pretty Hope Cove, a popular spot for watersports and watching the sunset. Grass pitches occupy a large field with views of the English Channel. Guests can light up a barbecue for dinner, having sourced some grillables from the on-site shop (which also has an off-licence), from the supermarket on the A381 road (five minutes’ drive) or from Salcombe (15 minutes). If you feel lazy (after all, that’s what being on holiday is all about, right?), you can eat out at the nearest restaurant in Bolberry (five minutes by car or a 20-minute walk), and there’s also a pub serving food in Hope Cove. From Hope Cove, it’s also possible to join the South West Coast Path on an exploration of Devon’s splendidly rugged coastline. A 35-minute hike takes you to Palmers Point Lookout, while heading north takes you to National Trust - South Milton Sands (25 minutes’ walk), with a wide beach backed by the South Huish Wetlands Reserve, a freshwater lake that attracts ducks and geese, as well as summer warblers. On-site amenities include a toilet/shower block with facilities for disabled guests, a washing-up area, a launderette and a communal fridge-freezer.

What customers say

This picturesque campsite boasts friendly, attentive hosts and a stunning location with excellent walking opportunities. Guests praise the pristine facilities, spacious pitches, and the useful on-site shop offering fresh bakery items. The peaceful atmosphere and proximity to Hope Cove are highlights. Minor points raised include the 20p shower system, which helps manage spring water usage, and occasional Wi-Fi variability. Approach roads are noted as narrow.

Electric grass campervan, tent or trailer tent pitch

Liked Very lovely site, great host. Clean and tidy.

Disliked Needed to pay for hot water when washing up and showering. Have paid for showers before but not washing up! A little bit odd.
Long way from anywhere, which is perfect if you want that.

Electric grass campervan, tent or trailer tent pitch

Liked Friendly and attentive hosts who want you to have an excellent stay and are very open to feedback. Beautiful setting with great walking on the doorstep. Very useful shop with fresh bread and pastries available to order. Facilities kept pristine.

Disliked Water is supplied from a spring so the owners ration water usage through charging for showers and washing-up. Trouble is that it's difficult to get hot water in the wash-up area without spending 40p a time!

Electric grass touring pitch

Liked Beautiful view, friendly staff and wonderful sunset.

Disliked Toilets/ showers were often left in a state .Not the owners fault, people seem happy to leave them dirty .but think maybe a mid morning and a late afternoon clean instead of just one miday clean up might work better .
Shower,s not that many ,and they didnt seem to work all that well all of the time, money put in didnt always mean long shower and sometimes water was only luke warm .

Local attractions

Explore both the rural and coastal landscapes around Salcombe with a visit to National Trust - East Soar (five minutes’ drive). Trails at this nature reserve take in gentle hills with grazing cattle and dramatic cliffs, while the gardens at Overbecks, overlooking Salcombe Estuary, have a collection of subtropical and rare plants. Part of the South Devon National Landscape, Bigbury Beach (35 minutes) is an expanse of sand that (at low tide) acts as a causeway to Burgh Island. The island itself was a favourite destination of Agatha Christie, who wrote (and set) some of her novels here. At high tide, a sea tractor shuttles visitors between the beach and the island. Residents at Dartmoor Zoo (45 minutes) include big cats, colourful exotic birds and several types of geckos. The zoo runs a lively programme of events – from yoga classes and photography workshops to after-hours sessions with talks and music.
