Pitches for family and group bookings
Spacious electric pitches with parking by the tent

  • Quiet, family-friendly Devon site 10 minutes’ drive from Woolacombe
  • Exmoor National Park 15 minutes’ drive and the Tarka Trail 20 minutes
  • Dog-walking area; easy access to footpaths, a pub and public transport
Surfers, walkers and cyclists, listen up… staying at Little Shelfin Farm Camping puts you in pole position for the excellent breaks off Woolacombe Beach (10 minutes’ drive), long-distance hiking on the Tarka Trail (20 minutes) and a mere 15 minutes by car from the cycling routes in Exmoor National Park. There’s plenty more that’s good about this small and quiet family-run site on an 80-acre working farm. The spacious pitches have plenty of room between them, with room for awnings and cars, and they sit on a large field with a modern toilet block and wide-open spaces so kids can have a run around or a kickabout. Dogs are welcome here as well, and there’s a small run dedicated to canine exercise (please pick up after them, though). Several public footpaths can be accessed a short walk away from the camping field (the dogs will be pleased to get extra walkies), and you can catch a bus to Woolacombe within a 10-minute stroll. A pub serving pizzas, steaks and fries all day is about the same distance away at Mullacott.

What customers say

This is a well-maintained, friendly campsite with spacious, flat pitches. It's praised for its excellent location, close to Ilfracombe and Woolacombe, and offers good value. Facilities are generally clean and adequate, with hot showers and plenty of space for children to play. Some guests mention a need for more hooks in shower cubicles and improved hand-drying facilities. The site is noted for being peaceful, although located on a busy road.

Non-electric grass pitch

Liked The pitch it self was lovely, big well laid out. Toilets and showers were clean and worked.

Disliked It was not very friendly, we did not see the hosts at all. Check in was done by a board, we couldn't freeze our ice packs as there was no one around to ask. We left early as it was not enjoyable, other sites have made us feel a lot more comfortable and welcoming we will be going back there instead.

From the manager: Thank you for your feedback regarding the issues you found.
We use the whiteboard as most staying with us find this an easy and convenient for their check in. We do understand this may not suit everyone but find on the whole people prefer this approach as means people are not waiting for us as we run the campsite alongside our farming business.
We would have been more than happy to freeze your ice blocks, we are contactable 24/7 via the phone number on the campsite board and booking form.

Perfect stay and we will return if in the area again.

Non-electric grass pitch

Liked Its flat and the facilities are clean. If you're using a vehicle daily and NOT the bus then its very conveniently located.

Disliked The bus stop may only be 3 min walk away but it is a very busy road with absolutely no verge to walk on. We actually had people beeping at us and gesturing that we shouldn't be walking. The bus didn't stop at the entrance despite me asking the driver. They seemed to stop at lots of other site entrances on the Mortehoe road.

There is also a lot of road noise, when we were there the owners had allocated everyone pitches along the road and almost no one on the far side.
The pitches weren't large as suggested by the info, we could hear every word said in the tent next door.

From the manager: Thank you for feedback.
The bus stop is accessible via a footpath off the campsite lane. We will ensure that this is advertise more clearly in the future if we are not available to ask.
In regard to the pitch allocation, we will consider this going forward and look at allocating the opposite side.

Non-electric grass pitch

Liked Decent location for what we wanted.
Fair pitch sizes around edges allowing place large grass area for playing in middle.

Disliked No recycling on site.
Smell in toilets.
Other campers children’s behaviour.
Prefer sites that allow music, fires and bbq’s. I knew of the no fire and music before booking.

From the manager: Thank you for your feedback.
We offer mixed bins on site which means recyclable are removed once collected by the waste disposable company. We made this choice and many people were choosing not to use recycling bins when staying.
If you had concerns regarding the behaviour of others we would have been happy to talk to these campers. We are contactable 24 hours a day and one of us would have come to deal with the behaviour if it had been raised with us
It is well advertise that we are a quiet site and we do not allow fire pits, we also made the decision to stop BBQs based on the government alert sent out. These are well advertise, and as you mentions you were aware off when booking the site.

Very basic felt like no expense spent.

Non-electric grass pitch

Liked Good communication prior to our stay.

Disliked No bins?!
No way to dry hands after using the toilet.
A long way to get to toilets with small children.
Junction to get out was precarious and full of pot holes!

From the manager: Thank you for your feedback.
We do have bins onsite they are located just outside the campsite entrance- these are out the way so people do not have to be close to the bins when pitching.
We have raised concerns with the highways agency regarding the condition of the road but unfortunately we have to wait for repairs to be made which is on their own timescale.
The campsite is usually manageable for most people to walk, your pitch was slightly further as we had to move your pitches to accommodate your three pitches together as requested.
We take your feedback on board regarding feedback and we look into what options are available.

Local attractions

Ilfracombe (five minutes’ drive) has a sheltered harbour and a rugged coastline with small pockets of beach and plenty of rockpools. Cheyne and Wildersmouth beaches are dog-friendly, but do keep an eye on tide times. Meanwhile, the tidal pool at the Tunnels Beaches can be accessed via a series of 18th-century galleries carved out of the cliff. For ‘Jurassic Park’-type thrills, head to Martin Wildlife and Dinosaur Park (15 minutes), which has several lifesize animatronic prehistoric beasts, including a fearsome T-Rex that roars on the hour. Real living animals include primates, wolves and wallabies. Those who are after a moment of calm explore the splendid botanical gardens, with rare trees and natural streams. National Trust - Arlington Court and the National Trust Carriage Museum (20 minutes) is a centuries-old estate with a stone mansion and elegant gardens. In the stables of the house, the interesting collection of carriages ranges from simple servants’ carts to an elaborately gilded coach with painted panels.
