Large camping field with space for parking and playing
Large electric pitches with access to water
Pitches for family and group bookings
Spacious electric pitches with parking by the tent

  • Quiet, family-friendly Devon site 10 minutes’ drive from Woolacombe
  • Exmoor National Park 15 minutes’ drive and the Tarka Trail 20 minutes
  • Dog-walking area; easy access to footpaths, a pub and public transport
Surfers, walkers and cyclists, listen up… staying at Little Shelfin Farm Camping puts you in pole position for the excellent breaks off Woolacombe Beach (10 minutes’ drive), long-distance hiking on the Tarka Trail (20 minutes) and a mere 15 minutes by car from the cycling routes in Exmoor National Park. There’s plenty more that’s good about this small and quiet family-run site on an 80-acre working farm. The spacious pitches have plenty of room between them, with room for awnings and cars, and they sit on a large field with a modern toilet block and wide-open spaces so kids can have a run around or a kickabout. Dogs are welcome here as well, and there’s a small run dedicated to canine exercise (please pick up after them, though). Several public footpaths can be accessed a short walk away from the camping field (the dogs will be pleased to get extra walkies), and you can catch a bus to Woolacombe within a 10-minute stroll. A pub serving pizzas, steaks and fries all day is about the same distance away at Mullacott.

What customers say

Great spot, quiet, with roomy, flat sites and heaps of space for kids. Toilets and hot showers are usually clean. Handy for Ilfracombe and Woolacombe. Some found shower cubicles a bit basic, no hand dryers. Good value.

Unpowered grass site

Liked Decent location for what we wanted.
Fair pitch sizes around edges allowing place large grass area for playing in middle.

Disliked No recycling on site.
Smell in toilets.
Other campers children’s behaviour.
Prefer sites that allow music, fires and bbq’s. I knew of the no fire and music before booking.

From the manager: Thank you for your feedback.
We offer mixed bins on site which means recyclable are removed once collected by the waste disposable company. We made this choice and many people were choosing not to use recycling bins when staying.
If you had concerns regarding the behaviour of others we would have been happy to talk to these campers. We are contactable 24 hours a day and one of us would have come to deal with the behaviour if it had been raised with us
It is well advertise that we are a quiet site and we do not allow fire pits, we also made the decision to stop BBQs based on the government alert sent out. These are well advertise, and as you mentions you were aware off when booking the site.

Very basic felt like no expense spent.

Liked Good communication prior to our stay.

Disliked No bins?!
No way to dry hands after using the toilet.
A long way to get to toilets with small children.
Junction to get out was precarious and full of pot holes!

From the manager: Thank you for your feedback.
We do have bins onsite they are located just outside the campsite entrance- these are out the way so people do not have to be close to the bins when pitching.
We have raised concerns with the highways agency regarding the condition of the road but unfortunately we have to wait for repairs to be made which is on their own timescale.
The campsite is usually manageable for most people to walk, your pitch was slightly further as we had to move your pitches to accommodate your three pitches together as requested.
We take your feedback on board regarding feedback and we look into what options are available.

Liked On arrival we liked the look of a different pitch and after checking it wasn’t booked out we were allowed to change pitches from the one we had originally been given. The toilets were clean enough and shower was ok. The bus stop to Ilfracombe and Woolacombe was a short walk across a field. This walk also led to a pub, where the food looked good. Close to many lovely beaches. It was quiet, which led to some good sleep.

Disliked This is a very basic campsite., which is reflected in the price. Not even anything to dry your hands with in the toilets. There is no shelter over the washing up area, which is a bit annoying in the rain. The entrance is on a very tight corner, on a fast enough road that it feels dangerous pulling out. This must be particularly difficult for caravans.

Unpowered grass site

Liked Close proximity to Woolacombe. Well kept site. Big, flat, spacious pitches. Quiet. Dog walk. Great value for money! Easy arrivals procedure. Showers were hot and powerful. Cleaned regularly. Plenty of washing up facilities. Plenty of bin space.

Disliked Unfortunately some guests were not respectful to other campers and the site but this was actioned swiftly and respectfully by the owner.
The facilities were regularly cleaned and refilled but not all guests were respectful of this and did not clear up after themselves which was a shame as the owners were clearly keeping it clean and tidy.

Unpowered grass site

Liked Nice flat site, good standard of toilets/showers, close to Ilfracombe and Woolacombe bus routes, reasonably quiet if you don’t get a bunch of rowdy kids next door but choose an adult only site if this bothers you.

Disliked Just a field surrounded by a tall hedge. I appreciate not all sites have a view but for the cost it’s basic camping. Busy road and site is on a bend so watch the traffic.

Local attractions

Ilfracombe (five minutes’ drive) has a sheltered harbour and a rugged coastline with small pockets of beach and plenty of rockpools. Cheyne and Wildersmouth beaches are dog-friendly, but do keep an eye on tide times. Meanwhile, the tidal pool at the Tunnels Beaches can be accessed via a series of 18th-century galleries carved out of the cliff. For ‘Jurassic Park’-type thrills, head to Martin Wildlife and Dinosaur Park (15 minutes), which has several lifesize animatronic prehistoric beasts, including a fearsome T-Rex that roars on the hour. Real living animals include primates, wolves and wallabies. Those who are after a moment of calm explore the splendid botanical gardens, with rare trees and natural streams. National Trust - Arlington Court and the National Trust Carriage Museum (20 minutes) is a centuries-old estate with a stone mansion and elegant gardens. In the stables of the house, the interesting collection of carriages ranges from simple servants’ carts to an elaborately gilded coach with painted panels.
