Ilfracombe Holiday Park: Swimming pool

General

  • Spacious, lively park 10 minutes' walk from Ilfracombe town centre
  • Lots of family-friendly entertainment throughout the day and evenings
  • Large heated indoor pool with hot tub and sauna

Who’s up for a sociable stay with sea views, a short stroll from the stunning north Devon coastline? That’s the setup at friendly Ilfracombe Holiday Park, on a hillside 10 minutes’ trot from the town centre.

This is a lively place that buzzes with all manner of activity – if you like to keep things convenient, this may just be the place for you. Without even venturing beyond the park’s gates you can play games of pool and crazy golf, swim in the balmy environs of the indoor pool or take it easy in the sauna or hot tub.

There are tiptop times ahead for the tiddlers too; even those dreaded damp days shouldn’t dampen spirits, with an indoor soft play area and amusement arcade to spend time in and a collection of colourful characters enrolling the small sorts in all sorts of age-appropriate antics.

Evenings are just as eventful, with a rolling roster of ents that might include shaking your stuff at the disco, winning cash prizes at the bingo (drinks are on you…) or just chilling out with pals at the friendly bar. Wander down into town for dinner if you like (there’s an excellent cluster of pubs and independent restaurants to pick from) or stick around on site for easy eats from the restaurant, curry house or takeaway.

Among all this it’s a fab idea to factor in some time to get out and about: beaches, boat trips, surfing, fishing and golf are just some of the activities you might want to put on your agenda.

Please note

Group bookings of 3 or more adults are not permitted (couples and immediate family members excepted).

The indoor swimming pool is open between 30/03 and 02/11.

The restaurant is open between 30/03 and 02/11.

Under 18s must be accompanied by their parents or legal guardians.

No hen/stag parties permitted via Pitchup.com.

Average accommodation, appalling bar service, OK entertainment.06/06/2021

Soft play was excellent for the kids. Apartment was fine, a bit grubby concidering it's supposed to be newly furnished. Over all we had a good stay. The bloke who did the cabaret was funny, very inclusive and good with children, definitely made up for the poor service of the bar staff.

    Disliked:

Beds were very uncomfy. The bar service was absolutely diabolical... I think they may have only got 1 of our drinks right over the weekend.
The bar staff were generally rude, slow and more interested in chatting amongst eachother at the bar rather than serving the customers. It took over an hour to order food and drink, to then be told at 8:57pm that they were no longer serving food as the kitchen closes at 9pm. Leaving us with hungry, grumpy children, not ideal.

Unfortunately, I don't think they were prepared as they could have been for guests. They had table service in the evening and at one stage there were people walking out because they couldn't get a drink.
The bins were overflowing and there was no collection while we were there.
There was a lot of old furniture lying around the side of a field, which was really unsightly. The surroundings were not looked after. The staff did do their best though, but I would recommend getting in some new staff for the stay cation frenzy!!

We were quite worried about going initially as there had been some really bad reviews and people had had their holiday cancelled at very short notice, but we we went and was pleasantly surprised! Our apartment had been freshly renovated so was lovely and clean and had everything you would need ,full kitchen Inc dishwasher , the only thing you need bring is your own towels and tea towels. There is a lovely big indoor swimming pool that is nice and warm which is open 9-5 and a bar with a bit of an entertainment section which is nice and reasonably priced. All staff we spoke to were extremely friendly and helpful. There is a hot food van in the carpark that served breakfast and then fish and chips or loaded burgers all again reasonably priced and tasty.

    Disliked:

When you enter the park it looks very tired and drab , there was no entertainment on at all whilst we were there but that was probably due to covid . You are given your apartment number and a key code via email so you can check yourself in but our key box wouldn't open so we had to call maintenance to get the key , and then when we left we still couldn't get it open so had to put the key through the letter box in reception and hope they found it 🤔

Location - excellent activities in the area
Swimming Pool open, managed well for Covid
Relatively recent re-fit including shower room
Fish & chip van + Jamaican takeaway van
    Dishwasher
Arrival managed by text + keysafe
    Parking
Available at last minute when originally planned holiday for that week was cancelled.
Reasonable price for location, date and facilities.

    Disliked:

Double mattress - better when we turned it over
Double duvet / cover were very different sizes
Only one set of plates/cutlery/mugs. With dishwasher it would be nicer to provide 2 sets.
    One kitchen cupboard door loose.
Site services text number provided did not reply re. the above.
TV needed re-tuning every day, but then worked - told site manager on departure
Wifi only in bar - but it worked ok there.

We didn't see anything to like we arrived at 10:30pm and the room hadn't been cleaned. Moved us to another site 45 mins away which was much nicer. The staff on site were very helpful to try and resolve but the management team dealing with the issue were poor with a lack of communication.

Nothing because we did not got to go. They never got back to me on emails that I have sent, which was about 4 of them, called more than 10 times and no one answered. Once I have managed to speak with someone that promised to get back to me but never happened. We booked to a week and waited for the payment to be taken and they only charged the deposit. Off course due the lack of response we hesitated to go, not not go there and not be able to have somewhere to sleep with a 5 yeara old child.

    Disliked:

Lack of response and also, pitchup is only here to take the money and does not help after making the booking.

Local attractions

Coast calling your name? It’ll take you 20 minutes or so to wander down to Ilfracombe’s beaches, or to the harbour to set sail on sea safaris (seeking out seals, dolphins and porpoises) or take fishing trips. If you want to guarantee spottings of sea beasties, head to the town’s aquarium instead.

Active times await along this stretch of coast too – the South West Coast Path is always a fab place for a walk, and there’s a rather gorgeous golf course a few minutes’ drive away. If you’re up for watery adventures, an activity centre 10 minutes’ drive away can take you paddleboarding, coasteering or kayaking, and there are surf lessons and waves to catch in Woolacombe (15 minutes away). Shudder at the thought of all this energetic stuff? Woolacombe’s sands are also ripe for swims and sandcastle building.

Big beasts (present and past) can be seen over at Combe Martin Wildlife & Dinosaur Park (20 minutes), and there’s heaps of fab stuff to see and do at family-friendly Watermouth Castle (10 minutes), including Victorian arcade machines, a toboggan run and a mighty water-powered musical organ.

Must see

  • RHS Garden Rosemoor (17.9 miles)
  • National Waterfront Museum (29.6 miles)

  • Arlington Court and the National Trust Carriage Museum (6.8 miles)
  • Heddon Valley (8.1 miles)
