Grass pitches

General

  • Warm and welcoming family-run site near Exmoor National Park
  • Hiking, climbing, canoeing, angling and stargazing within easy reach
  • Remote park with plenty of green space and spectacular Exmoor views

If you plan on venturing to Devon for spectacular walks, historic hotspots and outdoorsy pursuits – and perhaps for wide open space, remoteness, a friendly vibe and meticulously manicured grounds to boot – make Zeacombe House Caravan Park your next Devon base.

Just south of the spectacular landscapes of Exmoor National Park, Zeacombe has pitches on a lushly landscaped park lined with pristine lawns and dotted with mature trees, shrubs and rockeries, bordered partly by ancient beech hedging. Bring four-legged pals along to enjoy it too: this is a pooch-friendly place that allows dogs around the grounds as long as their humans keep them on their leads and clean up any doings. There's also a dedicated dog walking area where they can romp about off lead (please do keep gates shut and check your hound isn't going to find any ways to plot an escape).

Zeacombe is a 12-minute drive from Dulverton, hailed as the southern gateway to Exmoor. You can pick up supplies (and gifts, and souvenirs) here, or bag them from the little shop on site selling essential groceries and camping bits; barbecues are allowed on your spacious pitch.

The amenities on site are kept to spotless standards and include roomy shower rooms with lashings of hot water, a laundry room, a washing-up area and plenty of spots for bins and recycling.

AA 4 pennants

Please note

Guests are advised to bring a good quality torch with them as parts of the site are unlit.

No hen/stag parties permitted via Pitchup.com.

Bookings must not be for more than 28 consecutive nights.

Owing to government regulations, groups of 6 or more people are not permitted.

Clean, relaxing, friendly site for humans and pets alike.27/09/2020

The owners were lovely, the complimentary hot drink(not a hot toddy though😋) was a welcome surprise.
    Open all year around.
Toilets were clean and newly refurbished, with free hot showers and plenty of hand sanitizer.
Camp shop appeared to be well stocked.
Nicely set out, you could stop where you wanted, very relaxing,
    Every pitch had EHU.
Easy to adjust to help with leveling
    Free WiFi on site
Potwash had hot water and was clean
    Easy spacious entry and exit.

    Disliked:

Not great for walkers who want pubs on route, due to limited footpaths.
The B road is pretty busy alongside the campsite.
All this is out side of the control of the owners who offered guidance.

    Friendly well-run site
    Good facilities
Flexible pitches, so in September there was plenty of choice on the grass areas.
    Convenient for exploring Exmoor.

    Disliked:

After getting stuck in the mud one morning (the owner was very helpful in towing us out), we moved pitch, although no room on the hardstanding ones.
Road running along one edge was quite busy.

From the manager...

Thank you for your review and comments. It has been quite an exceptional year with regards to the weather. Hopefully next time you come the weather will be lovely and no getting stuck in the mud

Laid back feel of the whole site and friendly relaxed staff always on hand if you need anything.. even offered to chill my wine if it wasn’t cold while we set up.
Great little shop with essentials which is open til 10pm. A possible late arrival time & no kick off time! What a breath of fresh air this site is.

    Disliked:

hard standing pitches were just one big strip, not for us but sure others don’t mind it that way.

From the manager...

Thank you for your comments. We're glad you like our park and the little things like no departure time and shop open until 10pm goes a long way. With regards to hard standing we are hoping to put in some set pitches over the winter so we can give people the choice. Hope to see you again

    Mud at times

From the manager...

Thank you for your review. We're glad you like our park and hope to see you again soon. With regards to the mud we had exceptionally bad weather over the last month or so and the area did suffer with lots of rain as other parts of the country also did. We managed to put sand down in most of the mud spots to help soak and dry up the areas affected. Hopefully we won't see storms like that again, especially in July/August when it;s meant to be beautiful weather.

Local attractions

Zeacombe’s local town of Dulverton is a handsome settlement between the Barle and Exe rivers, with central streets lined with boutique and gift shops, tearooms and various other watering holes and eateries.

While you’re over that way, the Dulverton Circular Walk spans three and a half miles of an upstream route alongside part of the Barle valley from the town, taking trampers over Marsh Bridge and gently ascending along an ancient byway before returning back down along another byway back into Dulverton. Plenty more highly scenic hiking trails network the rest of Exmoor National Park’s thousands of acres of moorland, forested valleys and high coastal heathland.

Ancient Dunster Castle a 40-minute drive away also comes with subtropical gardens home to four different microclimates, as well as a restored 18th-century working watermill among a peaceful river garden. To arrive in style, take the vintage steam locomotive carriage on the West Somerset Railway from Bishops Lydeard, 45 minutes’ drive from base, via some cracking coastal views along the way.

Elsewhere, the famed north Devon surf spots of Saunton Sands, Croyde and Woolacombe are all within an hour’s drive.

Must see

  • The National Trust Killerton House & Gardens (16.4 miles)
  • Blackdown Hills Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty (18.3 miles)
