Zeacombe House Caravan Park: Grass pitches

General

  • Warm and welcoming family-run site near Exmoor National Park
  • Hiking, climbing, canoeing, angling and stargazing within easy reach
  • Remote park with plenty of green space and spectacular Exmoor views

If you plan on venturing to Devon for spectacular walks, historic hotspots and outdoorsy pursuits – and perhaps for wide open space, remoteness, a friendly vibe and meticulously manicured grounds to boot – make Zeacombe House Caravan Park your next Devon base.

Just south of the spectacular landscapes of Exmoor National Park, Zeacombe has pitches on a lushly landscaped park lined with pristine lawns and dotted with mature trees, shrubs and rockeries, bordered partly by ancient beech hedging. Bring four-legged pals along to enjoy it too: this is a pooch-friendly place that allows dogs around the grounds as long as their humans keep them on their leads and clean up any doings. There's also a dedicated dog walking area where they can romp about off lead (please do keep gates shut and check your hound isn't going to find any ways to plot an escape).

Zeacombe is a 12-minute drive from Dulverton, hailed as the southern gateway to Exmoor. You can pick up supplies (and gifts, and souvenirs) here, or bag them from the little shop on site selling essential groceries and camping bits; barbecues are allowed on your spacious pitch.

The amenities on site are kept to spotless standards and include roomy shower rooms with lashings of hot water, a laundry room, a washing-up area and plenty of spots for bins and recycling.

Fantastic hosts, very relaxed and friendly and the offer of a cup of tea on arrival was most courteous and a real bonus. They could have not been more helpful and there was no time pressure to leave when we had to go. Very clean and quiet site with all of the facilities you would expect, including a well stocked shop when you find you have forgotten something. An excellent find.

Liked everything about this place, owners really friendly and helpful, shop on camp was open early and didn't close till late at night, if there was anything you needed and they didn't have they would go and get it for you, nothing was too much for them. The facilities were absolutely spotless, there was also a washing machine, dryer and iron and ironing board available if needed too which was absolutely great if you needed something washed immediately. There were loads of fresh water taps and rubbish bins dotted around the place which was nice as you didn't half to walk half way across the camp to fill up on fresh water to to get rid of rubbish, this was a good thumbs up. Based on the stay and everything the site has to offer I would definitely stay again.

    Disliked:

Didnt dislike anything about the site, only thing it is in the middle of no where, you do have to travel about 10 miles to the nearest town or shop

Campsite was very good, electric in every pitch and we were able to choose any where we wanted. impressed with the little shop on site as it was still open at 9pm on Bank Holiday Monday wasn't expensive either. Facilities were not to bad either. WiFi was very good everywhere on site

    Disliked:

Absolutely nothing for at least 20min drive around. Just a walk along a main road. And what can only be described as a pig in a neighbouring tent kept everyone awake all night. Also had to leave a day early because our son got sick.

From the manager...

Thank you for your review and comments, some of it did make us chuckle. We're pleased that you enjoyed your stay on the site and found our facilities really good. Sorry to hear that your son was poorly, we hope he feels better now.

With regards to the dislikes, we are situated in the country close to Exmoor. There are bridle walks on our doorstep and pubs within 4 miles. Dulverton is the nearest village 4 miles away with quaint shops, pubs, river and play park for children. We also have Tarr Steps, Exmoor Pony Centre, Knightshayes. We have an information room full of leaflets for all activities and places to visit and for all ages.

We do hear a lot of sounds on the site from the peacocks, owls, hounds, cows and sheep to "pigs" as you describe it. One of the drawbacks of tents is very thin material and being in an area where sound is accentuated it can often appear noises are louder than they actually are. All we can say is sorry that you were kept awake, the option to move would have been possible as we are not running to full capacity at the moment but please spare a thought for the people that have to share the tent with the said "pig".

Your not really limited to a sized pitch, we must have taken up two pitches, and I know others did aswell, nice and clean site, it's good there is a quite rule after 10 and everyone keeps to it.on site shop has all what you need in an emergency.

    Disliked:

Only down side was, some dogs liked the sound of their own voices in the morning. But that's not the camp sites fault.

From the manager...

Thank you for your review and comments. We're glad you enjoyed yourselves with us. Some doggies can be heard having quite a conversation sometimes and when the hounds join in from up the road when it's feeding time it can be quite fun. We hope that doesn't put you off visiting us again as we enjoyed having you stay.

Local attractions

Zeacombe’s local town of Dulverton is a handsome settlement between the Barle and Exe rivers, with central streets lined with boutique and gift shops, tearooms and various other watering holes and eateries.

While you’re over that way, the Dulverton Circular Walk spans three and a half miles of an upstream route alongside part of the Barle valley from the town, taking trampers over Marsh Bridge and gently ascending along an ancient byway before returning back down along another byway back into Dulverton. Plenty more highly scenic hiking trails network the rest of Exmoor National Park’s thousands of acres of moorland, forested valleys and high coastal heathland.

Ancient Dunster Castle a 40-minute drive away also comes with subtropical gardens home to four different microclimates, as well as a restored 18th-century working watermill among a peaceful river garden. To arrive in style, take the vintage steam locomotive carriage on the West Somerset Railway from Bishops Lydeard, 45 minutes’ drive from base, via some cracking coastal views along the way.

Elsewhere, the famed north Devon surf spots of Saunton Sands, Croyde and Woolacombe are all within an hour’s drive.
