  • Small family-run site on a smallholding in Dartmoor National Park
  • Close to River Teign and Two Moors Way; 25 minutes' drive to Exeter
  • Simple pitches with well-kept facilities, plus play area and hammocks
Three Hares Campsite is a small family-run site in the Dartmoor National Park, part of a 25-acre smallholding run by friendly Chinnie and Henry. Simple, secluded and scenic – that’s the style of this little Devon site full of wildflowers and trees and bordering a little stream. It’s got hammocks set up in the willow trees and a small play area with a tree swing for the kids, and welcomes barbecues and campfires (as long as they’re kept off the ground). There’s also fab farm shop five minutes' drive away for top-notch sausages and local veg to grill. There’s much to do in the surrounding area, whether you’re planning hikes on the Two Moors Way, bike rides on the Wray Valley Trail or Granite Way, kayaking, swimming and climbing around the River Teign or simply sampling all the Devon cream teas you can possibly manage. Exeter’s about a 25-minute drive away for a city fix, and you can get to beach days within about 40 minutes. This is a simple and eco-friendly site but all the necessary facilities are in place: guests have access to fresh water, hot (and strong) showers, flushing toilets, a chemical waste point and a lovely timber-framed washing-up area. Sorry, but no dogs are allowed on site as it has sheep for neighbours.

Electric grass tent, campervan or trailer tent pitch

Liked: This was a perfect little campsite. We stayed on an electric pitch and it had everything we needed for a long weekend. The toilets and showers were clean and warm. There was a freezer and fresh produce to buy and we especially loved the fire buckets. Great area for walks. We will definitely be back to stay.

Non-electric grass tent or trailer tent pitch

Liked: Natural play equipment for the children
Good shower facilities

Disliked: Pitches weren’t marked out at all, so when we went out for the day we came back and another family had pitched and parked their car within 2m of our tent.

From the manager: Thank you so much for your positive review and for giving our campsite a 10! Apologies for another campers car being parked too close but we are glad it didn't affect your stay.

Liked: Lovely campsite with all the right facilities. Use of the fridge and kettle wwre very helpful
Lovely to be hidden in the hills away from the wind and to have the option to hire a fire. Would stay here again without contemplating!

Great location to wander into dartmoor or close to a town such as exeter.

Disliked: Could hear the traffic from the road in the distance.

Non-electric grass tent or trailer tent pitch

Liked: We loved this campsite, all the basics were covered - hot water in the showers and washing up station and nice flat pitches. Great fire puts. Kids loved the little park area and cycling down the slope. Very convenient location just off A30 and easy for visiting Dartmoor. We will definitely book again.

Non-electric grass tent or trailer tent pitch

Liked: On arrival there was a handy information board in reception which not only had details of where had the freedom to pitch, but also plenty of information about their site and surrounding areas. Lots of friendly people on site who stuck to the quiet time. Bonus of being able to build your own fire (off the ground) and you could use the fridge/freezer in reception at your own risk which was good for ice packs. Very peaceful and we look forward to returning and seeing their on site shop opening!!
There is also an honesty box where you could buy wood, hire a fire pit or purchase some goods from their reception such as pasta, beans or hand crafted crochets.

Non-electric grass tent or trailer tent pitch

Liked: Location
Clean toilets
Hot showers
Washing up area covered and clean
Plenty of water taps
Hammocks
Swings for children
Stream

Disliked: Non electric pitches are not marked out in any way and first come first serve pitch up wherever you want on side of field which meant as single parent with child and small tent on second night had family large tent and car pitch up too close for comfort and privacy. Marked out pitches would have been better as felt very overbearing

From the manager: Thank you so much for your review and for the feedback about non electric pitches being unallocated. We are sorry that the system didn't work brilliantly for you this time and will look at how to improve things for 2025. Many thanks, Chinnie and Henry
