  • Peaceful Blackdown Hills site with two fishing lakes
  • 15 minutes from Taunton and 30 from Lyme Regis and the Jurassic Coast
  • In a walkers' paradise: free maps of local trails available on site
This peaceful little site may take its name from the monarch’s honey wine, but these days it’s the food in the area that’s fit for a king: about 20 minutes' walk from the site is the Half Moon, serving fresh and traditional pub food with side order views over the Culm Valley. Kingsmead Centre is excellent territory too for ramblers, cyclists and equestrians, with free maps for all the nearby trails available on site – a local recommendation is the longer-distance Neroche Herepath. In a wooded vale in the Blackdown Hills (an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty), Kingsmead also has two coarse fishing lakes which are exclusively reserved for guests’ use, and is home to a wide variety of birds and other wildlife. The shower and toilet facilities are simple and clean, with no shortage of free hot water. Well-behaved pets are welcome on site.

Daisy electric forest floor tent pitch (woodland)

Liked We stayed here August half term just me my partner and our dog. We opted to go for Daisy pitch as we didn’t want to be on a crowded field (like camp sites normally are in half term!) however a part of me wished I had booked the electric tent field as it is far from a crowded field and actually very spacious with only a few electric pitches on a large field. The facilities were perfect for us, plenty of toilets and showers. The washing up facilities was great plenty of hot water
The fishing lake at the bottom was great, I didn’t really seem to see much information on this or recent reviews regarding the fishing but the fishing is a general coarse lake suited to float fishing and feeder fishing, I caught a few carp around 2-3lb
The shop is well stocked and the staff are very very friendly.
We had a berghaus air 400 in daisy pitch and I wouldn’t really go any bigger than this

Disliked 2 things I didn’t like,

The first thing is nothing to do with the campsite at all and is entirely me but I thought I’d mention it for people who might not have thought about it. The Daisy pitch is lovely and it is entirely your own pitch however there is no area where the sun shines through in this pitch, however it’s a woodland pitch so why would it!

Secondly, the dog wash station only has a cold water feed. Could do with having a mixer shower as my dog was shivering whilst we gave him a wash, also the dog wash station was rather dirty and seemed to be blocked so the dirty water had nowhere to drain, this is a minor and is literally the only thing we didn’t like about the camp site

Primrose non-electric forest floor tent pitch (large)

Liked Trees and ponds made the site a lovely place. Very good showers and WCs.
Nice to find somewhere cool under the trees when it was so hot.
We took our own tent, but the site has many options.
Friendly welcome, good shop.

Disliked Trying to reverse into Primrose plot could be challenging for some drivers who have a larger car. Lucky we had a small car.

Electric hardstanding touring pitch

Liked Cleanliness and kindness of the owners. Working tirelessly to maintain a beautiful quiet site. A warm welcome and a waggy tail met us. I like warm showers, dog friendly and quiet. Also, when our dog chewed through our cable and tripped the whole site (by accident) they did not get cross. Just grateful our dog wasnt injured. Really recommend this site. Washing machine really cleans and dryer works incredibly well.

Liked Loverly private pitches and the facilities are clean and work well. Two private fishing lakes and nice walks around the site. Will need a bike or car if elderly to get to facility’s otherwise a good site and the staff were great.
