  • Peaceful Blackdown Hills site with two fishing lakes
  • 15 minutes from Taunton and 30 from Lyme Regis and the Jurassic Coast
  • In a walkers' paradise: free maps of local trails available on site
This peaceful little site may take its name from the monarch’s honey wine, but these days it’s the food in the area that’s fit for a king: about 20 minutes' walk from the site is the Half Moon, serving fresh and traditional pub food with side order views over the Culm Valley. Kingsmead Centre is excellent territory too for ramblers, cyclists and equestrians, with free maps for all the nearby trails available on site – a local recommendation is the longer-distance Neroche Herepath. In a wooded vale in the Blackdown Hills (an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty), Kingsmead also has two coarse fishing lakes which are exclusively reserved for guests’ use, and is home to a wide variety of birds and other wildlife. The shower and toilet facilities are simple and clean, with no shortage of free hot water. Well-behaved pets are welcome on site.

What customers say

This peaceful, well-kept woodland campsite has spacious, secluded spots and great facilities. Guests rave about the friendly staff, clean showers/toilets, and on-site shop. Highly recommended for its calm vibe, natural setting, and family-friendly feel. Minor Wi-Fi and shower temp issues didn't spoil an otherwise great stay.

Liked So close to home but felt miles away! Very friendly staff. Lovely clean toilet block. Will definitely go again quite regularly

Disliked The pitches aren't very flat. The quiet time was not obeyed by everyone but realise this is difficult to monitor

Bracken unpowered forest floor tent site

Liked Great campsite, very friendly family who registered us when we arrived. Clean/ 2ell maintained toilet blocks, although we didn't use the showers so can't comment on if the water was hot. We loved our forest spot (we stayed in the Bracken pitch). Lovely walking trails nearby, and it was very kind of the campsite owners to provide a map and details of local trails/ attractions.

Disliked This is no reflection on the campsite at all, but a couple of things to consider for your own stay: make sure to wear long trousers and insect repellent if you plan on doing some hiking (it's the countryside, there will be a few bugs about). Also bear in mind that you'll likely need a vehicle to get to the campsite/ explore locally.

Liked I loved how quiet and peaceful it was there. Beautiful sunsets...still peaceful and quiet. This is a place where you can truly unwind with a book.🥰

Honeysuckle powered forest floor tent site (woodland)

Liked Lovely camping in the woods, quiet, clean, all you can ask for. I was a bit worried to find the place but the Sat Nav got as there just fine.

Disliked Unfortunately, even on holidays, I have to keep an eye on my work emails, but the Wi-Fi signal didn't reach the Honeysuckle pitch, so I had to walk closer to the toilets to connect. Other than that, nothing to dislike!

Recommend to friends Visit again

From the manager: Thank you. Your comments on the Wifi are noted, however it is tricky to reach every small corner. The connection speed and reliability generally is very good and reaches all the main parts of the site and we are always working on ways to extend it where possible.

Fantastic. Will return again and again.

The Willows 2 bedroom static caravan

Liked This is a wonderful site and we wouldn't hesitate to return. We stayed in one of the caravans (Willows) as we didn't have our camping equipment with us, but we'd love to come again with our tent and stay on one of the woodland pitches, each of which looked very secluded and private. The lakes are beautiful - there were yellow irises all around them and pretty lilies among the lily pads.

The caravan was perfect for our 4 night stay - it was spotlessly clean, comfortable and very well equipped (the only thing missing to us was a chopping board but that wasn't a problem).

Disliked Nothing to dislike.

Recommend to friends Visit again

From the manager: thank you for your kind comments We look forward to seeing you again in the future. I believe the chopping board was accidently taken home by the previous occupants. It has now been replaced.

Bramble powered forest floor tent site

Liked We had a great couple of days at this campsite over a busy bank holiday weekend. It never felt overcrowded and we never had to queue for the showers or toilets. We camped under the trees which was useful for such a hot weekend.
All the team were really friendly and helpful and made us feel very welcome. It’s in a great location with many woodland walks at, or near, the site.

Meadow unpowered grass campervan, tent or trailer tent site

Liked Very relaxing and quiet place. Big space for camping in the no electricity area.
Enclosed area for dogs
Friendly and helpful owners

Disliked They should put an access for the dog to get to the other side by the stiles.
I had to carry my 24 kg dog everytime.

Recommend to friends Visit again

From the manager: Thank you for your review. Whilst we would not hesitate to change the access arrangement on the public footpath, unfortunately the stile belongs to the neighbouring property. For future knowledge, there is an alternative access from the road into the meadow if required for heavy dogs.
