Wall Park Touring Caravan and Centry Road Camping Site: Wide pitches among the trees

General

  • Quiet and spacious tree-lined site above Brixham in Devon
  • Three minutes' drive to Brixham; Berry Head coastal walks from site
  • Splashdown Quaywest 15 minutes; Paignton Zoo 20 minutes; Dartmouth 40

Devon’s above… below and all around you on this super spot looking over Brixham.

Estate Agents might call it a dual aspect view. At Wall Park Touring Caravan and Centry Road Camping Site they just call it their own special corner of Devon. Sitting on the Berry Head peninsula, this lush green tree-lined site has Brixham harbour on one side, peaceful St. Mary’s Bay on the other.

It’s a smart site with a laundry, hot showers and disabled bathrooms. Regulars rave about the walk down into Brixham from the site; a 15-minute descent with the sea gulls, sea breezes and sea views getting ever closer. (They also point out it’s uphill on the way back; in a car, the trip’s about three minutes.)

Brixham’s a handsome harbour town; great for fresh fish, as the boats unload here all day. To see a slightly older vessel, step aboard the Golden Hind, a replica of the craft Sir Francis Drake circled the globe in 450 years ago and still awash with history.

You can clock some miles up yourselves in this part of the Devon coast, on foot or by car. A walk round the Berry Head nature reserve will reward the most reluctant hikers, with huge views, a Napoleonic fort and cliffs alive with adders, guillemots and peregrine falcons. Hike round the headland, then take the path down to St. Mary’s Bay for a well-earned paddle.

Please note

The site does not accept breeds/crossbreeds listed in the Dangerous Dogs Act (i.e. Pit Bull Terrier, Japanese Tosa, Dogo Argentino, and Fila Brasileiro) and/or any of the following: Staffordshire bull terrier, American Staffordshire terrier, Rottweiler, any Mastiff or Tosa.

    Disliked:

Showers and toilets inadequate and need updating. Site featureless. Left a day early as jobsworth weekend site employee sited our new neighbours car so close to our motorhome that we couldn’t get round the side to fill water.

Showers and loos were very clean. Very close to the south coast path which made for a beautiful evening walk! Stunning views but cannot be seen from the campsite itself. Didnt visit the food van onsite but thought that was a really nice idea.

    Disliked:

Pitches close together, it wasnt that busy during our stay but if it had been, we would have been very squished together!

Amazing location with just a 10 minute walk into Brixham and there are many routes you can take. The shower and toilet was always clean and tidy, never had to wait even though site was busy.
Water taps everywhere on site so great as it was really hot tge week we was there.

    Disliked:

They could do with a little shop on site just selling essentials as if you have no car it’s a way to carry heavy items.

The area the site was flat and is situated with walking distance of Brixham and a number of beaches and coves. it was generally very quiet on site, well maintained with good toilet and shower facilities

    Disliked:

People drove on to the site late at night well after 11pm. This happened on at least 3 occasions, each vehicle had a noisy diesel engine.

Location is great for coast path walks, with dog too. …28/06/2022

Location is great for coast path walks, with dog too. Dog freindly, (perhaps some dog owners need to train their dogs a little more though to not bark at everything that moved). Good facilities, generous size pitch, although could do with an extra 1m between sites (but thats standard, so no complaints on this).

    Disliked:

It is quite a busy site, lots of pitches, so allthough well placed and we would stay again, if you are looking for the peaceful type site this may not be for you.
Some dog owners need educating in 'dog training', and one couple left their dog on site tied up when they went off for the day. Not the fault of the site though, just bloody ignorant owners.
Not really a dislike, but would benifit from clearer directions (basic map) of the route to beach, but at least they have printed directions, so more than most anyway. But when we arrived the path down the cliff side looked too tricky so had to turn back.

Local attractions

Many of the towns on the coast serve up a cracking cocktail of inland attraction and nearby beach; Dartmouth (40 minutes’ drive) being a good example. The 14th-century castle has estuary views and grisly history for those who like it; railway buffs can catch the Paignton and Dartmouth Steam line for a nostalgic tour of the surrounds and link up with a boat trip on the River Dart as well.

Adjacent to the town, Blackpool beach is sandy and safe for families, and adventurous sorts can go sea-kayaking. Further off, Hope Cove (an hour) offers the perfect combination of sand for burying your siblings in and rock pools for exploring.

If you do want a break from coastal activities, Paignton Zoo (20 minutes) has exotic residents in six different habitats; you can visit each one on the Jungle Express Train. Plymouth (an hour) is a popular port of call for its National Marine Aquarium and indoor ski slopes. For watery fun away from the beaches meanwhile, Splashdown Quay West (15 minutes) is an aqua park packed with flumes and slides and things to get wet in, and there are water rides, interactive dinosaurs and a zoo farm menagerie at Woodlands Adventure Park (45 minutes).

Must see

  • Paignton Zoo Environmental Park (4.2 miles)
  • Living Coasts (4.6 miles)
  • Buckfast Abbey (13.8 miles)
