Wall Park Touring Caravan and Centry Road Camping Site: Grass pitches

General

  • Quiet and spacious tree-lined site above Brixham in Devon
  • Three minutes' drive to Brixham; Berry Head coastal walks from site
  • Splashdown Quaywest 15 minutes; Paignton Zoo 20 minutes; Dartmouth 40

Devon’s above… below and all around you on this super spot looking over Brixham.

Estate Agents might call it a dual aspect view. At Wall Park Touring Caravan and Centry Road Camping Site they just call it their own special corner of Devon. Sitting on the Berry Head peninsula, this lush green tree-lined site has Brixham harbour on one side, peaceful St. Mary’s Bay on the other.

It’s a smart site with a laundry, hot showers and disabled bathrooms. Regulars rave about the walk down into Brixham from the site; a 15-minute descent with the sea gulls, sea breezes and sea views getting ever closer. (They also point out it’s uphill on the way back; in a car, the trip’s about three minutes.)

Brixham’s a handsome harbour town; great for fresh fish, as the boats unload here all day. To see a slightly older vessel, step aboard the Golden Hind, a replica of the craft Sir Francis Drake circled the globe in 450 years ago and still awash with history.

You can clock some miles up yourselves in this part of the Devon coast, on foot or by car. A walk round the Berry Head nature reserve will reward the most reluctant hikers, with huge views, a Napoleonic fort and cliffs alive with adders, guillemots and peregrine falcons. Hike round the headland, then take the path down to St. Mary’s Bay for a well-earned paddle.

The camping pod was nice and clean with comfortable beds. The only downside was the size of the fridge, should have been advertised as mini fridge, cannot fit a 2 pint of milk in!

    Disliked:

The showers! Not enough of them, not very clean and quite often 1 of the 2 shower blocks were closed for a very long time for "cleaning"

Great site, large level pitches, close to Brixham08/08/2022

The pitch was a good size and staff we encountered were friendly and helpful but unobtrusive. Showers were clean and powerful, and we didn’t experience much of a wait with the exception of the first night as one of the ladies was out of order in one block, but this was fixed the next day. Lovely little play area for younger children. Great location for Brixham. Site was clean and quiet.

    Disliked:

Not really dislikes but perhaps things that could be added for future seasons to improve the site and revenue for future seasons; whilst the park is a great addition a grassy area reserved for kids to run around, play with balls etc would prevent them running between pitches which we experienced (not the fault of the site at all) and perhaps a small shop selling basics, as whilst there is a Co-Op very close, we found that they often didn’t have milk, bread etc meaning we had to venture further out (again not the sites fault at all.)

The site was great , arrival was easy and friendly, hot showers and toilets available, great location for exploring Devon ..easy walk to Brixham …. Co-op shop nearby ..would go back

    Disliked:

Toilet bins could be emptied more often as were always over flowing …next time would go when it wasn’t the school holidays not the sites fault but some parents should supervise their children and not leave them to run a muck !

A gem of a campsite07/31/2022

The site is in a brilliant position with Brixham a few minutes walk one side and a beach the other . The facilities were modern, clean and well maintained and we didn’t have to queue for a shower! We booked an electric pitch and somehow there was confusion with the computer booking and had been allocated a non electric pitch . The staff were very apologetic and immediately found us space in an emergency electric pitch . We can’t fault their customer service :) they were friendly polite and went out of their way to accommodate us. There was so much to do without using the car - We had dinner at rockfish, walked to fishcombe cove & Berry head reserve , swam in brides bay , saw dolphins and seals , found loads of banksys ! And wandered round the shops after a pint and some fresh seafood. We will defiantly be coming back to Wall park campsite :)

    Disliked:

Although pitchup is excellent for finding available spaces on campsites , I would defiantly recommend contacting the campsite direct to ensure your booking is correct just in case.

Was greeted by a friendly warden who guided us to our pitch, pitch was flat. Amenities were clean and no long wait for showers. Laundry area is good, £4 per wash and £1 per 10 minutes tumble drying. Food van on site was nice and reasonably priced. Quiet after 10pm. 10 min walk to Brixham harbour.

Local attractions

Many of the towns on the coast serve up a cracking cocktail of inland attraction and nearby beach; Dartmouth (40 minutes’ drive) being a good example. The 14th-century castle has estuary views and grisly history for those who like it; railway buffs can catch the Paignton and Dartmouth Steam line for a nostalgic tour of the surrounds and link up with a boat trip on the River Dart as well.

Adjacent to the town, Blackpool beach is sandy and safe for families, and adventurous sorts can go sea-kayaking. Further off, Hope Cove (an hour) offers the perfect combination of sand for burying your siblings in and rock pools for exploring.

If you do want a break from coastal activities, Paignton Zoo (20 minutes) has exotic residents in six different habitats; you can visit each one on the Jungle Express Train. Plymouth (an hour) is a popular port of call for its National Marine Aquarium and indoor ski slopes. For watery fun away from the beaches meanwhile, Splashdown Quay West (15 minutes) is an aqua park packed with flumes and slides and things to get wet in, and there are water rides, interactive dinosaurs and a zoo farm menagerie at Woodlands Adventure Park (45 minutes).
