General

  • Peaceful site in a private home’s grounds 15 mins’ walk from Braunton
  • A five-minute drive from Saunton Sands beach and 10 from Croyde
  • Well-equipped guest kitchen and lounge area plus a communal firepit

Seek space at Secret Spot Camping, a site on open north Devon farmland 15 minutes’ walk from the pubs and shops of Braunton and five minutes’ drive from Saunton Sands beach.

Pitches here form part of the grounds of a family home – guests are welcome to wander about and admire the gardens (a lot of effort goes into tending them, as you’ll see from the pics). Clubs and groups are welcome but be aware that the vibe here is very much more peaceful than party.

Facilities on site are centred around the convivial campers’ shelter, a hub full of handy things including a kitchen (with a fridge, freezer, microwave, kettle and toaster), comfy sofas, sockets for charging gadgets, and a wifi connection. If it’s a fine day, there’s also plenty of outdoor seating scattered around the place and a communal firepit area for campfire chats. Barbecues are welcome too as long as they’re kept on the bricks provided.

With several famed beaches nearby (not just Saunton Sands but also Croyde 10 minutes’ drive and Putsborough within 15 minutes) this is a tiptop location for surfers as well as those who want to chill; the site owners also manage a surf shop in Croyde, so folk who don’t have their own kit might want to hire or buy down there (with a little discount to aid proceedings).

Please note

Group bookings of 6 or more adults are not permitted (couples and immediate family members excepted).

Units longer than 6 metres metres are not allowed.

Twin axle vehicles are not permitted on site.

Guests are advised to bring a good quality torch with them as parts of the site are unlit.

Guests are requested not to pick flowers from the garden or go into any of the site outbuildings.

Please note, this site does not accept motorhomes.

Loved the magical garden you go through on walking in, especially at night. And beautiful secret garden nooks to sit out the sun or round a fire with friends or with a good book after a full days adventures. Well equipped campsite too with fridges, microwaves and all night tea making facilities, and all the usual stuff.

The communal building is great. It rained heavily during my stay and I got wet. I was able to retreat there and make a cup of tea and microwave some food to warm me up again. Peter even happily supplied a bowl and cutlery. There is a large sitting area with couches and table and chairs as well plus fridges to keep supplies in. Just what we all needed!
The pitch is a lovely large flat and level area, very good for the tent.
The washing, toilet and shower areas were all very clean and everything worked.
There is a lovely garden area as well, courtesy of Peter's wife - thanks, good for the soul.
The site is a bit out of town, so it is quiet, but it's only about a 10 minute walk to the shops.

    Disliked:

Nothing to dislike, as far as I could see.

From the manager...

Small campsite, split over a few fields so still room to space yourself a bit. Nice to have tea making facilities and a recreation room to hang in and charge your gear at the electricity outlets. showers, toilets and washing up area all kept very well.

Just for my own shortcomings - it would be nice to have a usb point on one of the sockets. I forgot my charger but had my cable.

    Disliked:

I managed to book the weekend of the music festival nearby, so there was a bit of noise. This is well controlled though, with the music ending at around ten or eleven.

this is not within the control of the campsite, so should not be seen as a negative, just something to consider.

Hard to find with no signage at the entrance or any indication of where the site is.

From the manager...

Thank you for taking the time to write a review. Sorry you had trouble finding us - lt should have been easy with the 2 emails that both Pltchup.com and l send out. We are also on Google Maps and have a Facebook page showing our location.

When you rang me l went out to find you but you would not give me the slightest indication as to where you were! After driving all over l returned to find you pitching your tent.

We deliberately have no signs up as we don't want to be found except by people who have pre-booked. Sorry this didn't run smoothly for you. We have now requested changes to the automatic booking response sent out by Pitch Up. Apologies for any inconvenience caused.
Regards Steve.
