  • Peaceful site in a private home’s grounds 15 mins’ walk from Braunton
  • A five-minute drive from Saunton Sands beach and 10 from Croyde
  • Well-equipped guest kitchen and lounge area plus a communal firepit
Seek space at Secret Spot Camping, a site on open north Devon farmland 15 minutes’ walk from the pubs and shops of Braunton and five minutes’ drive from Saunton Sands beach. Pitches here form part of the grounds of a family home – guests are welcome to wander about and admire the gardens (a lot of effort goes into tending them, as you’ll see from the pics). Clubs and groups are welcome but be aware that the vibe here is very much peaceful rather than party. Facilities on site are centred around the convivial campers’ shelter, a hub full of handy things including a kitchen (with a fridge, freezer, microwave, kettle and toaster), comfy sofas, sockets for charging gadgets, and a wifi connection. If it’s a fine day, there’s also plenty of outdoor seating scattered around the place and a communal firepit area for campfire chats. Barbecues are welcome too, as long as they’re kept on the bricks provided. With several famed beaches nearby (not just Saunton Sands but also Croyde, 10 minutes’ drive away, and Putsborough within 15 minutes) this is a tiptop location for surfers as well as those who want to chill out; the site owners also manage a surf shop in Croyde, so folk who don’t have their own kit might want to hire or buy down there (with a little discount to aid proceedings).

Non-electric grass campervan, tent or trailer tent pitch

Liked Clean facilities. Campers hub with kitchen, lounge and new covered area are fab. Tis 5 star camping in my humble opinion.

Able to rest up for a quiet few nights camping and thoroughly relax. Thoughtful chats with owners and helper.

Level pitches. Lovely garden. Can sit under new shelter and watch the evening sky fade to black.

Fridges to store your perishables and kettles, toasters and microwaves to warm them back up and then sinks to wash up. Perfect.

Backs on to the road that leads to the Braunton Burrows and back to Velator avoiding the centre of town.

Braunton itself has great cafes and shops and the area beyond is awesome for motorcycling.

Please noted. I stayed the second week of September, after the skool holidays had ended.

Disliked Nothing.

Liked Lovely site. Well maintained facilities. Peaceful and ideal for family with kids. The owner and staff are very helpful and friendly. My son loved feeding the fish. Hidden gem/garden is very well kept. 5 mins away from the beach and shops by car. Will definitely come back!

Non-electric grass campervan, tent or trailer tent pitch

Liked A lovely and super friendly campsite. All facilities kept clean at all times. I loved the Campers Hut and all the little extras provided by the owner: bottle opener, brush and pan, books about the area, free fridges and phone chargers and many more.
The site is very quiet, surrounded by countryside, yet only a short walk into town and/or a short drive to the beach and many of North Devon attractions.
As a female solo traveller I felt very safe.

Non-electric grass campervan, tent or trailer tent pitch

Liked What a lovely, quiet, clean and well kept campsite. The owners are really lovely, friendly and accommodating.
The showers and facilities are spotless and there is a lovely area where you can sit and relax. There are communicable fridges and kettles and the grass area for camping is very flat.
All 3 camping fields are lovely.
It’s only a very short drive to Braunton or to Braunton Burrows sand dune system.
The owners are very knowledgeable of the surrounding area too. I couldn’t fault this campsite at all. We had such a lovely stay.

Non-electric grass campervan, tent or trailer tent pitch

Liked We've had 2 great stays here. Steve and Jo are incredibly friendly, attentive hosts who work tirelessly to keep the facilities spotless. They're understandably proud of what they've created.

The site itself is excellent. Even in the summer holidays it never feels busy because the spacious, unmarked pitches are spread across three fields. Never had to wait for toilets, showers or washing up. On both occasions plenty of choice of where to pitch up it was never crowded.

There is plenty of room to relax, and the location is ideal for exploring the area - great local beaches and restaurants.

The communal lodge is very well-equipped with fridges, freezers, a microwave, toaster, kettle, charging points, etc.

The beautiful gardens and abundant seating areas set this site apart from others we've visited. Our daughter loved wandering through them and as a keen gardener I can appreciate the effort Jo has put into creating and maintaining them.

We will definitely be back!

Local attractions

For a break from the waves, have a think about walks on the South West Coast Path (within five minutes’ drive) or bike rides on the Tarka Trail (15 minutes away). Wanders are also to be had around the Braunton Burrows sand dunes, the largest system of its kind in England and around 10 minutes' drive from the park. Tour tunnels instead at Ilfracombe – there’s a network of four carved out of the cliffside by locals back in the 1820s – followed by seawater swims in the nearby tidal pool. This seaside settlement 15 minutes’ drive from Secret Spot Camping also has an aquarium to amble around and is a gateway for wildlife-spotting boat trips. Kids keen to gaze at yet more animals? Combe Martin Wildlife and Dinosaur Park (25 minutes' drive) is the place to go for meets and greets with meerkats and sea lions as well as animatronic prehistoric creatures.
