Seek space at Secret Spot Camping, a site on open north Devon farmland 15 minutes’ walk from the pubs and shops of Braunton and five minutes’ drive from Saunton Sands beach. Pitches here form part of the grounds of a family home – guests are welcome to wander about and admire the gardens (a lot of effort goes into tending them, as you’ll see from the pics). Clubs and groups are welcome but be aware that the vibe here is very much peaceful rather than party. Facilities on site are centred around the convivial campers’ shelter, a hub full of handy things including a kitchen (with a fridge, freezer, microwave, kettle and toaster), comfy sofas, sockets for charging gadgets, and a wifi connection. If it’s a fine day, there’s also plenty of outdoor seating scattered around the place and a communal firepit area for campfire chats. Barbecues are welcome too, as long as they’re kept on the bricks provided. With several famed beaches nearby (not just Saunton Sands but also Croyde, 10 minutes’ drive away, and Putsborough within 15 minutes) this is a tiptop location for surfers as well as those who want to chill out; the site owners also manage a surf shop in Croyde, so folk who don’t have their own kit might want to hire or buy down there (with a little discount to aid proceedings).

Tyckte om Absolutely love this campsite! They’ve thought of everything, making it a real little Devon gem. The site is beautifully maintained, welcoming, and has everything you could want for a relaxing stay.

Tyckte inte om The only slight downside for us is that we’d ideally love to stay in the top fields, as they feel a little nicer and have a better view. Unfortunately, as we have a dog, we’re not allowed to stay there.

Tyckte om This was our first camping holiday since we got married and we have found a real gem. Our criteria for camping this summer wasn’t much but flat ground, good toilets, dog friendly and close to the beach. Secret Spot Camping delivered on all accounts… and more! Not only are the toilets and showers great (cleaned daily WITH loo roll and hand soap provided - big win!) but the pitches are super spacious and they even go above with the offering of a lush communal ‘campers shelter’ for everyone to use with fridges, freezes, washing up facilities, kettles and sofas for when you just want to step away from the tent and sit with a cuppa in a normal chair 😊 the site is only 15 mins drive from Braunton Sands Beach and 5 mins from the town centre so nothing is out of reach. The owners were very helpful and chatty and the beautiful gardens were a lovely addition to walk through every morning. We will definitely look at returning to Secret Spot in the future 🩷

Tyckte om Just back from 3 nights at this lovely venue, first class time was had by all. Lovely spot, nice flat pitches and good facilities, always clean and even in high season we never had to queue for the showers or toilets. The Campers Hut and all its facilities (kettle, toaster, microwave, fridge, freezer etc) is a lovely touch and surrounded by beautiful gardens for all to enjoy. Our hosts were very friendly and welcoming and highly knowledgable about the local area. Love this place, will be back for more of the same.

Tyckte om The beautiful "Secret Garden" - a little haven of peace and contemplation. Well-maintained and spotlessly clean showers, toilets and washing up area. Flat pitches. Campers' kitchen with fridge and freezer, and bad-weather shelter. Attentive and helpful hosts. Easy to find and access the site. In hot weather there are some shady pitches, though not enough for everyone. For surfers it's an ideal location at a good price.

Tyckte inte om Although the garden has the atmosphere of being set apart from the world, the reality is the site is only 500m from the edge of Braunton with the attendant traffic noise when the wind is in the wrong direction. Also, I did not enjoy the neighbouring farmer letting off his shotgun repeatedly at 7 each morning in pursuit of pigeons and rabbits. Although our hosts rather patronisingly dismissed it as "sounds of the country" (I wasn't complaining, I was just asking where the shooting was most likely to happen so we could choose a pitch as far away from it as possible) I've never had that experience on any other campsite, and at age 63 I've stayed on quite a few.

Tyckte om Excellent facilities, bathrooms and showers were really clean all the time and the kitchen is very handy. Great site intro on arrival. A lovely site, great location with lots nearby to explore (you do need to drive around but we enjoyed it) - highly recommend.

Tyckte inte om Communication ahead of arrival was a little challenging but was all fine once we were there.

Lokala sevärdheter

For a break from the waves, have a think about walks on the South West Coast Path (within five minutes’ drive) or bike rides on the Tarka Trail (15 minutes away). Wanders are also to be had around the Braunton Burrows sand dunes, the largest system of its kind in England and around 10 minutes' drive from the park. Tour tunnels instead at Ilfracombe – there’s a network of four carved out of the cliffside by locals back in the 1820s – followed by seawater swims in the nearby tidal pool. This seaside settlement 15 minutes’ drive from Secret Spot Camping also has an aquarium to amble around and is a gateway for wildlife-spotting boat trips. Kids keen to gaze at yet more animals? Combe Martin Wildlife and Dinosaur Park (25 minutes' drive) is the place to go for meets and greets with meerkats and sea lions as well as animatronic prehistoric creatures.
