General

  • Stunningly scenic glampsite with sea views towards Lundy Island
  • Sandy beaches and South West Coast Path within walking distance
  • Surfing, climbing and paddleboarding tours on site, plus kit hire

Seeking out beachside days and scenic strolls along cliffs and sands? Swim, sail or surf along to Livit Adventures Glamping, a family-friendly glampsite five minutes’ drive from the village of Abbotsham in Devon.

Within easy reach of the coast, this is a top destination for rural getaways with ocean breezes. Settle in surrounded by greenery on site in the grounds of Westacott Farm, then let those breezes take you to the South West Coast Path – roughly a 10-minute walk across fields – for spectacular views and rambles towards Westward Ho! in one direction, or Clovelly and the North Devon Wake Park in the other.

Getting out on the water might involve surfing and kitesurfing in Westward Ho! or opting instead for wakeboarding and splashing around at the wake park. The site also owns an activity company, so there's no need to haul a heap of kit along – guests can hire surfboards, wetsuits and paddleboards on site, or sign up for paddleboarding tours.

After all that activity, home base may well be beckoning… Turn feet and boards back to site and unwind on a private deck, set something to grill on the barbecue (please bring your own charcoal), and sidle up close to the firepit while taking in the stunning view over the Atlantic to Lundy Island. When the chill of evening sets in, wash up and retreat indoors where a woodburning stove keeps things cosy into the night.

I stayed in the bell tents with my teenage son and travelled with a friend who stayed in another bell tent with her teenage daughter and younger daughter.

The bell tents were the basic option next to the glamping option. They had campbeds and camp chairs provided. It was nice to find that the bell tent had a separate porch area to sit and relax in the chairs, or sit on the rug to a play a game of cards if weather not so warm. There was lots of space to keep stuff too. The separate zipped area to sleep in was a nice surprise and made it feel a lot cosier zipping up and getting into bed at night.
The separate areas were far better than just having the one space and suited me and my son well.

Staying in the bell tents there was also use of a communal covered kitchen unit, this we found very useful to take our cooking hob when it was windy to brew a much needed cuppa. There was also charging points to use which is a god send for teens!

The campsite is small and ajoins the other main campsite. The shower block and toilets were spotless. The campsite also also has guest food vans on different evenings which was a great bonus.

We went paddleboarding as a group and Kevin was our guide we all loved the experience - Kev was so chilled and friendly showing us the ropes. Sarah was lovely and arranged the trip and organised everything nothing was too much trouble.

Fantastic site with lovely clean ammenities, a play area, shop for milk and lots of open space. Felt really safe for the children we had with us.
The bell tent was super clean and just what we needed with the camp beds set up and lots of fairy lights for when the sun went down.
Sarah was amazing and couldn't have been more helpful. We had a text before we arrived to say it was ready and she came over a few times during the stay to check in.
It was absolutely perfect for us.

Campsite (Westacott Farm camping) had a very nice feel to it. The site was quiet and the toilet blocks well-cleaned and maintained. Livit Adventures have their own field at the top of the campsite, which was great. Tents were comfortable with plenty of space around the tents. The picnic table which was provided was great, as was the cooking shelter with the much-appreciated phone/tablet USB charging sockets.

    Disliked:

The only two minor issues was the the water pressure in the two showers is very poor (although the other showers in the adjacent block are fine) and that the field can get quite windy. An inside table for the tents would be handy.

Very welcoming friendly staff/owners. Lovely washing facilities and plenty of them. Quiet smallish site, but child’s play equipment if needed. Close to the local attractions, Westward Ho etc. Bell tent we stayed in was perfect and big enough for the 3 of us (2 adults 1 teenager).

    Disliked:

Most minor of issues, the grass was really long. My personal preference would be short grass due to it chucking it down and having wet shoes made the tent messy.

From Bideford, take the A39 towards Bude and Clovelly. Staying on the A39, go straight across Abbotsham roundabout. Take the first right, then turn right at the next junction. About half a mile up the road, turn right into Westacott Farm.

From Cornwall, take the A39 to Kilkampton. Pass through higher Clovelly, Buck’s Cross and Fairy Cross, then take the second left. Turn right at the next junction and, about half a mile up the road, turn right into Westacott Farm.

When you arrive at Westacott Farm, turn right and head for the top field. Look for the tipi village – you will find the site team there, and can park near the tents.
