  • Quiet family-run park in the grounds of a north Cornwall hotel
  • A 15-minute drive to Port Isaac or the edge of Bodmin Moor
  • Outdoor swimming pool, games room and bar
Checking out spots to stay between the north Cornwall coast and Bodmin Moor? Then it might be time to check in at Lanarth Hotel and Caravan Park, a family-run site in St Kew Highway, just off the A39. This spacious park has 10 acres of peaceful gardens to relax in, plus nicely level plots that are easy to access (so no need to stress about squeezing down those pesky West Country lanes). You also get use of the hotel's well-maintained facilities, including a games room with pool tables, a cosy fully licensed bar and an open-air pool between late May and mid-September. Holidaymakers also have a purpose-built toilet and shower block a short walk away from the pitches. There's a pub that serves hot food, a Cornish pasty shop and a hairdresser's a short distance away in the village, while those who need to stock up on groceries have supermarkets in Wadebridge (10 minutes' drive), which is also a stop-off point on the gorgeous Camel Trail. Bringing a bike here (or hiring one in town) opens up 18 miles of almost totally traffic-free vistas, so make sure to earmark a day for some relaxed backcountry pedalling. After days of exploring, once back at base you could chill around a barbecue, order a nightcap at the bar or simply take advantage of the low levels of light pollution and gaze up at the night sky…

What customers say

This is a well-maintained, peaceful campsite with friendly, helpful owners. Visitors praised the spacious pitches, clean facilities, and the beautiful grounds, often mentioning the resident peacocks. The outdoor swimming pool and on-site bar were popular amenities. Its central location makes it a good base for exploring Cornwall, with many beaches and attractions nearby. Some minor drawbacks included a lack of on-site food options and occasional noise from peacocks.

Electric optional grass tent pitch

Liked getting there could not be simpler on the Atlantic highway. The pitches are spacious with a very natural feel with well established trees, flat and well serviced. Steve is the main guy, but they pretty much leave you to it , unless you want them and they are responsive , it’s a family run place I bumped into the Steve’s mum the owner who was delightful and told the story how she went up and down the country from her native West Midlands until she found this campsite , there was also a lady cleaning the facilities at the crack of dawn each day , what a trooper , overall the people are friendly and approachable if needed what more can you ask ?
The facilities are fine , shower , block , toilets , Elsan , bins including recycling, a bar with pool and air hockey , a quiz on one night , jukebox , it can get quite snug if busy , but a really nice feel to the place , also a pool great for cooling off. There is lots to see and do we went pony trucking on Bodmin moor, camel trail from wadebridge to padstow there is cycle hire , Merlin’s cave , giant slip and slide, basically because of the location you will never be short of attractions and places to visit , it’s also nice site to sit around and soak up the campsite , I found walking around the ancient village of st Kew nice although they are country roads I think I came across 2 cars at mist and the st Kew inn is a lovely place, although we didn’t get chance to visit ourselves I noticed a farm shop across the road.

Electric optional grass tent pitch

Liked Initially booked for 5 nights, and extended for 4 more whilst there, and let me just say it’s one of the best camping spots we’ve been to so far. The owners, especially Steve who we’ve been dealing with mostly have been very welcoming and helpful, the campsite itself is very clean and pleasant. The bathrooms/showers get cleaned multiplie times a day, and there’s enough cubicles that there’s never any queues.
There’s a bar area, outdoor pool (clean), and even peacocks roaming around.
There’s an Asda express and a petrol station literally over the road, and a decently short drive to nearest attractions - Porth Beach was our favourite due to water being calmer than elsewhere.
Overall, a great spot we will surely be coming back to.

Disliked The one and only downside for someone who’s used to sitting by a camp fire every night, there is no fire pits allowed, which I think one communal camp fire pit (safely prepared) would’ve been an amazing addition and would bring all the campers together.
However, the owners allow portable barbecues, just need to ask for some bricks to put underneath not to scorch the grass.

Electric optional grass touring caravan pitch

Liked Nice site with a outside pool (unheated)Situated in stunning mature grounds of the Lanarth hotel. Peacocks roam free. Close to Wadebridge, Padstow and port Isaac.

Disliked Only 3 showers and 3 wc's in the gents that could do with a refit tbh. Quite often no toilet roll, not the best and with over 40 pitches could be a queue. Same in ladies only 3 showers with 6 wc's.
Site seemed fairly cramped during peak times.

Local attractions

Almost opposite the site is Saint Kew Golf Course (two minutes' drive), a 4550-yard-long course with a driving range that welcomes both adult and junior players. (If your golf isn't up to much, there's also a farm shop and cosy café next door.) For other active jaunts, you could feel the wind in your hair by walking on the splendid South West Coast Path (15 minutes) or lope over rugged Bodmin Moor (15 minutes), perhaps venturing out to famed 18th-century smuggling haunt Jamaica Inn (30 minutes). For beaches, you could launch a trip to Newquay (30 minutes), where a mixture of sandy shores, surf culture and classic arcades pretty much guarantees good times all round. There's also an assortment of more low-key beach spots like Polzeath (20 minutes), Harlyn (25 minutes) and, if you fancy sampling the south coast, Lantic Bay (50 minutes). Inspired by the site's leafy layout? The Eden Project (30 minutes) and similarly world-class gardens like The Lost Gardens Heligan (45 minutes) are within easy reach. Finally, there's potential for day trips full of Arthurian heritage at Tintagel Castle (30 minutes).
