  • Small and peaceful north Cornwall site on the edge of Mawgan Porth
  • A 15-minute drive to Newquay or 20 minutes to Padstow
  • Dogs welcome at the site and beach; bus stops a few minutes' walk
If you're keen to escape the crowds in Cornwall, this could be the place for you. With a name like The Little Field Camping it will probably come as no surprise to hear that this pop-up site is on the smaller side, with just a handful of pitches surrounded by woodland and hedges. That setup gives this place a peaceful vibe for a relaxing rural stay – and with the coast fabulously close by as well. The site is just on the edge of the little village of Mawgan Porth, about half a mile from its gorgeous sandy beach and just a short walk from a pub, café, convenience store and a couple of restaurants. The village has bus stops too, so it’s easy to get to places like Newquay or Padstow on public transport (good news for those who don’t have their own wheels, or would like to avoid finding parking spaces). You’ll also be in prime position for getting out to some of the north Cornwall coast’s top spots, including Perranporth, Polzeath and the clifftop walks of Trevose Head. Turn inland and there are plenty of options for fun days out, including the nearby Camel Creek Family Adventure Park. This is a petite and peaceful pop-up site, so the facilities are on the simple side but you’ll have access to a barbecue, a communal firepit and a washing-up area as well as bathrooms with toilets, showers and electric plugs. Dogs are welcome on site, and are also allowed on the beach throughout the year.

Local attractions

Obviously your first stop will be at the splendid sands of Mawgan Porth beach – it's just a few minutes' walk away and has rockpools as well as a huge swathe of sand for sunbathing and sandcastles. There’s also a surf school at the beach and the chance to get competitive at the crazy golf or pitch and putt. One beach is never enough in Cornwall though, is it? With that in mind, you may like to set off for a walk along the South West Coast Path, north to Pentire Steps or south to Newquay. Other local favourites include Porthcothan (five minutes' drive), Padstow (20 minutes) and Perranporth (half an hour), along with hikes or games of golf near Trevose (15 minutes). For a change of pace and scenery, spend a day on the rides at Camel Creek Family Adventure Park (15 minutes), explore the Tudor manor and formal gardens at Trerice (20 minutes) or ride the steam trains at Lappa Valley (25 minutes).
