  • Small and peaceful north Cornwall site on the edge of Mawgan Porth
  • A 15-minute drive to Newquay or 20 minutes to Padstow
  • Dogs welcome at the site and beach; bus stops a few minutes' walk
If you're keen to escape the crowds in Cornwall, this could be the place for you. With a name like The Little Field Camping it will probably come as no surprise to hear that this pop-up site is on the smaller side, with just a handful of pitches surrounded by woodland and hedges. That setup gives this place a peaceful vibe for a relaxing rural stay – and with the coast fabulously close by as well. The site is just on the edge of the little village of Mawgan Porth, about half a mile from its gorgeous sandy beach and just a short walk from a pub, café, convenience store and a couple of restaurants. The village has bus stops too, so it’s easy to get to places like Newquay or Padstow on public transport (good news for those who don’t have their own wheels, or would like to avoid finding parking spaces). You’ll also be in prime position for getting out to some of the north Cornwall coast’s top spots, including Perranporth, Polzeath and the clifftop walks of Trevose Head. Turn inland and there are plenty of options for fun days out, including the nearby Camel Creek Family Adventure Park. This is a petite and peaceful pop-up site, so the facilities are on the simple side but you’ll have access to a barbecue, a communal firepit and a washing-up area as well as bathrooms with toilets, showers and electric plugs. Dogs are welcome on site, and are also allowed on the beach throughout the year.

What customers say

This peaceful campsite has private, hedged pitches and is praised for its excellent beachside location. Guests love the clean, well-maintained washrooms with hot, powerful showers. Most found it great value, though some noted small van pitches and tricky access. Some also mentioned a steep beach walk and suggested improvements to waste disposal and dishwashing areas. Overall, a highly recommended, secluded getaway.

Primitive grass and earth campervan campsite

Liked The toilets and showers were good, and the water was hot. Good location as a base. There are small communal areas with fire pits.

Disliked The site and pitches are very small with gorse/spikes bushes around. I got two enormous spikes through my crocs. I wouldn’t have wanted to set up a tent on the van pitches. Pricey for what it is compared to other areas although that is probably the area.

Primitive grass tent campsite (XL)

Liked One of my favourite camp sites i’ve been to! I loved the secluded camp sites in the woods. Good facilities - I had a nice hot shower and toilet block was clean. Great location being a 15 minute walk to Mawgan Porth beach

Disliked Could do with better waste disposal eg recycling bins as i couldn’t find any bins other than the small ones in the toilets. Washing up area could do with having a roof over it - only small things

From the manager: Thank you for your review it's much appreciated!
There are bins and recycling area at the entrance of the field, sorry if you didn't get the info on the booking text. We are aiming to get better every season but still a little business with little means 🙂
Thanks for staying with us,hope to have you back again!

Liked Great location. Very reasonably priced. Nice private pitch.

Disliked First night, I found someone had been smoking around my tent. Cigarette buts in my chair and on the ground around the tent. A little disconcerting as a solo traveller.

Primitive grass tent campsite (small)

Liked Wonderfull site with a good variety of pitches each more or less secluded. The showers and toilets were clean and maintained daily. There are two central fire pits, where you can BBQ. There is a charging point with 12 slots in the toilet block. There are also three washing up sinks as well. There view of the valley is spectacular, with a short walk down a steep hill to the local beach village.

Disliked The entrance can be tricky turning left into the site.

Liked Absolutely fantastic 🤩 I adored this site! Right from seeing the surfboard sign to driving on and feeling at home immediately on a little camping retreat, the site was small safe and secluded, very close to things but also peaceful. The owners had been fantastic in accommodation to a request for a shady pitch for my puppy and I was pleasantly surprised with the privacy, the shower blocks had the best showers, warm hot, powerful and felt novel and outdoorsy and safe, cleaning staff were always friendly in the morning, they had lovely glowy cool lights, it was pretty dog friendly, it was great to have the facility to charge stuff up and such a bargain price! I highly recommend and would definitely return.

Disliked Teeny bit tricky to find on the satnav but the owner was on hand on phone to direct

Local attractions

Obviously your first stop will be at the splendid sands of Mawgan Porth beach – it's just a few minutes' walk away and has rockpools as well as a huge swathe of sand for sunbathing and sandcastles. There’s also a surf school at the beach and the chance to get competitive at the crazy golf or pitch and putt. One beach is never enough in Cornwall though, is it? With that in mind, you may like to set off for a walk along the South West Coast Path, north to Pentire Steps or south to Newquay. Other local favourites include Porthcothan (five minutes' drive), Padstow (20 minutes) and Perranporth (half an hour), along with hikes or games of golf near Trevose (15 minutes). For a change of pace and scenery, spend a day on the rides at Camel Creek Family Adventure Park (15 minutes), explore the Tudor manor and formal gardens at Trerice (20 minutes) or ride the steam trains at Lappa Valley (25 minutes).
