Tremarne Campsite: Electric grass pitch

General

  • Dog-friendly family-run site with bar and spectacular country views
  • A 10-minute drive to St Austell and 15 minutes to Porthpean beach
  • Spacious pitches with modern, well-maintained amenities

It’s all about the greenery at quiet and sheltered Tremarne Campsite, close to the centre of Cornwall: there’s masses of it in this spacious site’s grounds, and it has spectacular views over lush countryside as well. Plenty of room is all around for children and dogs to play, or for grownups to sit back while taking in the sunrise

If you’ll be out and about in the evenings (perhaps at the restaurants of St Austell, slightly inland, or beside Charlestown’s harbour down by the south coast) you won’t have to go far as both are within 10 minutes’ drive of the family-run site. A beach is also 15 minutes away – the pretty cove of Porthpean – and top Cornish attractions like the Eden Project are about the same distance.

It's worth heading over there to roam in the biomes, passing by plants from many different climates and environments, from desert cacti to European wildflowers; you might also like to have a gander at other green spaces like the Lost Gardens of Heligan (20 minutes) near the fishing town of Mevagissey and its working harbour. The various 19th-century-style subtropical sections that make up this horticultural hotspot are rather dazzling.

Back on site, the grounds have generously-sized pitches; guests also have access to a smart and well-maintained modern shower and toilet block, recycling facilities, chemical disposal and a covered washing-up area with scenic views. And, once all those essentials are dealt with, you can grab a beer to chill out with at the on-site bar…

Please note

The site does not accept breeds/crossbreeds listed in the Dangerous Dogs Act (i.e. Pit Bull Terrier, Japanese Tosa, Dogo Argentino, and Fila Brasileiro).

Group bookings of 3 or more adults are not permitted (couples and immediate family members excepted).

Friendly helpful owners. Good central area for seeing much of Cornwall. Lovely to have such a cute bar on site with a wide range of drinks including cocktails. Great space for saying hello to other campers. Clean small showers and toilets. Little shop at reception but close to local shops anyway. Safety barrier on way in to site. They also hire out outdoor fire and wood. Large level spaces for tents etc. great planting and separation for more privacy rather than a large field. We would definitely return.

Excellent hosts first and foremost. Lovely couple, they clearly love what they have built here and have had a difficult start due to starting just before covid. Hasnt stopped their drive for it. The site is lovely, spacious, great views, facilities were immaculate and the hand built bar is a great little touch. We will be back, thanks for our stay.

Very quiet, fab location, good price, pitches are a good size, free showers, a good base

    Disliked:

As a returning customer we were quite disappointed as the customer service upon arrival was shocking. Get the impression it isn’t always like that and was probably a one off but very disappointed and set us up for the weekend on a bit of a bad foot. Especially as it was the last weekend of the year and were the only guests!!!
Considering we were the only guests I don’t think the showers were that clean when we first went to use them. Nice and hot and a bonus they are now free as previously there was a token set up that you had to pay for.

From the manager...

While we accept that everyone has the right to their own opinion, you can see from our previews reviews our overall rating has been consistently 10/10.

You booked two pitches on our last few days of season. As we do not know which pitch made which review the response from us is the same on both.

Late afternoon we sent you and your friend a text to ask when you expected to arrive onsite as our arrival times are between 1-6pm. We received a reply from one of you stating you would be with us in 20 mins but that your friends would not be with us until 9pm! No explanation, just presumed it would be ok and wanted to check them in yourselves. We sent a reply stating that our latest check in time was 6pm and we don't allow fellow campers to check other guests onto site, especially due to our current covid restrictions.
As soon as you arrived you stated your friends had vehicle problems and they were going to be arriving at 9pm! You or your friends obviously had no intentions of pre warning us earlier in the day (which we believe is common courtesy)
Craig was quite shocked at your attitude and let you know he wasn't happy as you were just assuming this was not a problem and hadn't even thought to let us know earlier, he explained that he was not obliged to allow your friends to check in at that time at night due to it being past 6pm but said it wasn't a problem. You were shown to your pitch and handed all relevant site information.
Your friends arrived at around 8.30pm being very apologetic to Kellie who checked them in, with no problems.

With regards to cleanliness of the showers I am at a loss! We have a regular cleaning programme as we have had all season and as you will see from our other reviews we have consistently received top scores for this with many campers stating they are the cleanest toilet / shower blocks they have used on a campsite.
We do have signage displayed requesting guests to inform us if facilities are not to their expectation. No issues were raised by you or your friend during your stay.

We're glad you enjoyed our bar.

We decided to only light our pathways as we prefer to have pitches with less light pollution. Better to view those beautiful starry nights!! ;)

To mix in a bit of time at golden sands alongside green explores, get along to the sandy Cornish Riviera beach of Polkerris, 25 minutes’ drive away, for swimming and watersports including windsurfing, sailing and paddleboarding.

If the surf’s up, the wave-catching hub of Newquay is 25 minutes' drive away: beetle over to this buzzing town on the county’s northern shores to frolic on famed Fistral beach, amble around an aquarium or check out some of the liveliest nightlife in Cornwall.

If you like your coastal times to be a little calmer, consider wandering the cliffside paths within driving distance of the park; both the Polperro and Roseland heritage coasts are within half an hour’s drive for satisfying strolls with stunning scenery.

Not hankering after a hike? Closer to the site at 10 minutes’ drive, the Charlestown Shipwreck and Heritage Centre outlines the maritime marauding that went on in Cornish during days of yore. Or have an amble around the biomes of the Eden Project or The Lost Gardens of Heligan (20 minutes away).
