Tremarne Campsite: Electric grass pitch

General

  • Dog-friendly family-run site with bar and spectacular country views
  • A 10-minute drive to St Austell and 15 minutes to Porthpean beach
  • Spacious pitches with modern, well-maintained amenities

It’s all about the greenery at quiet and sheltered Tremarne Campsite, close to the centre of Cornwall: there’s masses of it in this spacious site’s grounds, and it has spectacular views over lush countryside as well. Plenty of room is all around for children and dogs to play, or for grownups to sit back while taking in the sunrise

If you’ll be out and about in the evenings (perhaps at the restaurants of St Austell, slightly inland, or beside Charlestown’s harbour down by the south coast) you won’t have to go far as both are within 10 minutes’ drive of the family-run site. A beach is also 15 minutes away – the pretty cove of Porthpean – and top Cornish attractions like the Eden Project are about the same distance.

It's worth heading over there to roam in the biomes, passing by plants from many different climates and environments, from desert cacti to European wildflowers; you might also like to have a gander at other green spaces like the Lost Gardens of Heligan (20 minutes) near the fishing town of Mevagissey and its working harbour. The various 19th-century-style subtropical sections that make up this horticultural hotspot are rather dazzling.

Back on site, the grounds have generously-sized pitches; guests also have access to a smart and well-maintained modern shower and toilet block, recycling facilities, chemical disposal and a covered washing-up area with scenic views. And, once all those essentials are dealt with, you can grab a beer to chill out with at the on-site bar…

The welcome and tour of the site. The beautifully maintained site. The bar and its prices were a great bonus and the cocktails were excellently made. The showers were immaculately clean and hot. The whole atmosphere of the camp was really a joy to be around, all other campers were great and friendly. This was down to the owners own friendly and helpful attitude. The site being pretty central for exploring what Cornwall has to offer. You felt safe on the site with the none intrusive covid precautions in place. We loved our 2 weeks we spent there and will return. Kellie and Craig are awesome hosts who will gladly give you time and day to ensure you are having a good time and all you need to do is ask if you need any advice, support or info of the area. Plus the added that dogs are allowed and are welcomed as long as they are on leads. A great family site for all which dont tolerate idiots so nothing will spoil your holiday.

Friendly and welcoming owners, quiet and pretty surroundings, amaaaazing chip shop down the road (The Wagon Wheel), short drive to Newquay, Mevagissey and attractions like The Lost Gardens of Heligan which was awesome.
The campsite is very well maintained with hot showers and pitch sizes are very spacious. They take Covid measures very seriously.
There are no pubs in walking distance (not that you’d want to be a pedestrian on Cornish roads anyway) but they have built a lovely bar and table area for everyone to come together an enjoy.
Lovely stay, thank you very much.

  • Liked:

Lovely small campsite with EHU. Clean shower block and loos, friendly owners and large pitch. The pitches were lovely. There's a little outdoor bar with covered seating area which was a nice place to relax in the evening. There isn't anything for kids on site but that was fine for me as mine are older now.

    Disliked:

The showers weren't great so I'm taking off a mark for that. Both times I used them the water was just a dribble (I used both showers so it wasn't a one off) and I couldn't wash my hair. My husband said his was boiling and wouldn't let our son shower in case he got scalded.

From the manager...

Hello Bridget, sorry to hear you had concerns with the showers. I wish you would have mentioned your concerns while onsite. As a note the temperature of the showers are preset and regulated at a safe temperature to ensure nobody can get scolded and cannot be altered by the public so not sure how the shower could be too hot. we have not had any other guests mention the showers being too hot.
While I appreciate the showers are not power showers we feel they are more than sufficient for campsite use.
I will of course check the showers to ensure they are working to the appropriate standard.
Thank you for your feedback and hope to see you again at sometime.

To mix in a bit of time at golden sands alongside green explores, get along to the sandy Cornish Riviera beach of Polkerris, 25 minutes’ drive away, for swimming and watersports including windsurfing, sailing and paddleboarding.

If the surf’s up, the wave-catching hub of Newquay is 25 minutes' drive away: beetle over to this buzzing town on the county’s northern shores to frolic on famed Fistral beach, amble around an aquarium or check out some of the liveliest nightlife in Cornwall.

If you like your coastal times to be a little calmer, consider wandering the cliffside paths within driving distance of the park; both the Polperro and Roseland heritage coasts are within half an hour’s drive for satisfying strolls with stunning scenery.

Not hankering after a hike? Closer to the site at 10 minutes’ drive, the Charlestown Shipwreck and Heritage Centre outlines the maritime marauding that went on in Cornish during days of yore. Or have an amble around the biomes of the Eden Project or The Lost Gardens of Heligan (20 minutes away).
