General

  • Pitches overlooking the 275-acre Stithians Lake
  • Fishing, sailing, windsurfing, paddleboarding and lots more to try
  • Playground, lakeside trails, bird hide, café and refreshment kiosk

Get along to Stithians Lake Campsite for watersports, scenic waterside views and loads of room all around: pitches at this family-friendly activities site look out over 275-acre Stithians Lake.

The range of activities on offer at Stithians Lake Campsite makes the site excellent for groups: fly fishers can cast from boat or bank for sizeable brown and rainbow trout (Environment Agency rod licences are required for over 12s and you'll need to apply for these beforehand). Visitors can also try out a wide range of watersports with the help of the qualified instructors at the Outdoor Active centre: windsurfing, sailing, rowing, kayaking and water zorbing are all on offer... feel free to bring your own kit or rent it on site.

There’s loads of space around the site for family games and picnics too, as well as a pirate-themed playground, walking trails around the lake and a bird hide for twitchers. Rid yourselves of the rumbles at the on-site café and refreshment kiosk, or have some of the homemade specials on the menu at the Golden Lion pub, 100 yards away.

The shower and toilet facilities are shared with the watersports centre and are a short walk from the pitching area (the facilities can get pretty busy when the watersports centre is open so plan your showers accordingly).

Stithians village is within easy reach of the site to stock up on supplies.

Not much to like really. It's a field with electric near a lake. Serves its purpose.

    Disliked:

Lack of facilities. No tumble dryer but had a washing machine?? Surely watersports and the temperamental weather a dryer would make alot of sense??. Nowhere to put shower gels etc in the showers which are very small and the water is very hot! Communal area to get dressed in which is fine if it's just adults but a little uncomfortable when young children are around (maybe just a personal thing🤔). Everything closes at 5 so was asked on a few occasions by new people turning up where the staff were! No food available after this time either. Watersports prices were not even a little discounted for people staying on the campsite which I would have though would just have a been a goodwill gesture at least?!

Great location. Relaxed peaceful campsite. Clean and tidy and great if into watersports.

    Disliked:

Very exposed. The week we attended was very windy and as there is no protection from the elements I saw a good few tents destroyed unfortunately.

Site facilities are clean if not plentiful but as the site wasn't busy it was more than sufficient. The pub at the entrance is very handy and the food was good.

    Disliked:

It is not clear on Pitchup or Stithians own site that all pitches are completely open to the elements no hedges/fences, it is known as "Windy lake", we found out why with good reason. Abandoned site on 2nd night of 10 nights booked as our equipment couldn't cope with the conditions.

Lovely, peaceful campsite. Always saw staff out and about cleaning the facilities. No frills but everything you need is there. Pitches are a good size and well marked out. Raining and windy while I was there but still loved it and wish I’d booked for a longer stay. Great, easily accessible walks around lake, seeing wildlife and on water activities. Great watching the wind surfing one evening...guy was whooping and shouting and absolutely having the time of his life, that’s what it’s all about. Cafe on activity site was lovely. Nice coffee and amazing cakes.

    Disliked:

Main female shower booths but could use individual shower near camping area.
