General

  • Pitches overlooking Stithians Lake
  • Fishing, sailing, windsurfing and stand-up paddleboarding available
  • Pub/restaurant 100 yards away

You’ll get stonking great views at this site, where the pitches look out over the 275-acre Stithians Lake.

There’s loads of space around the site for family games and picnics, as well as a pirate-themed children’s playground, walking trails around the lake and a bird hide for confirmed and wannabe twitchers. Dogs are welcome on site as long as they're kept on leads.

The range of activities on offer at Stithians Lake Campsite makes the site ideal for groups: the limpid waters have excellent sport for fly fishermen, who can cast from boat or bank for sizeable brown and rainbow trout (just note that Environment Agency rod licences are required for over 12s and you'll need to apply for this beforehand).

If coarse fishing is more up your street, Argal lake is about 10 minutes’ drive from Stithians: purchase a day pass for fishing and enjoy the great café on site. Pedal-driven recreationalists can cycle along the off-track road to the dam.

Visitors can also try out a wide range of watersports with the help of the jovial, qualified instructors at the Outdoor Active centre. Windsurfing, sailing, rowing, kayaking and walk-on-water balls are all on offer.

Feel free to bring your own kit or rent it on site (however, guests must have third party insurance for their own water craft and those using their own equipment must pay a small charge on arrival. You can find out more about prices and policies in the Terms and Conditions). And as tempting as it might be to take a refreshing dip in the lake, swimming is not allowed...

Rid yourselves of the rumbles at the on-site café and refreshment kiosk, or have some of the homemade specials on the menu at the Golden Lion pub, a mere 100 yards away.

For further activities, check out the local indoor swimming pool and gym, the crazy golf at Swanpool Beach, and the energetic escapades to be found on the many other golden sands nearby, from coasteering to scuba diving.

The shower and toilet facilities are shared with the watersports centre and are a very short walk from the camping area. Both the men's and women's facilities are a changing room layout, with two small cubicles and four communal showers. There's also a shower room for guests with reduced mobility. The facilities can get pretty busy when the watersports centre is open so plan your showers accordingly.

Stithians village is within easy reach of the campsite to stock up on supplies.

Facilities/activities including fly fishing, boat hiring are subject to extra charges payable on arrival.

Single-sex bookings of 6 or more people (couples and immediate family members excepted) are not permitted via Pitchup.com.

The lake was beautiful and the camping areas were a good size with plenty of playing area for the kids.

    Disliked:

The showering facilities were quite small with little storage while showering. We had a few noisy neighbours that were making noise into the early hours without any notice to be made quiet which left us with broken sleep for a few nights which I know can’t be helped by the site as much but more the campers being inconsiderate.

Nice location nice staff. Electric didn't trip once. Which is unusual. Washing up facilities good.

    Disliked:

Showers are terrible. Far too small. Not cleaned nearly enough. Used for watersports people as well as campsite so sand and lake rubbish caught in drainage grids in floor constantly. No where to put anything in shower like wash gel etc except on floor.
Toilets smelt horrific of urine constantly. Needs more cleaning
Didnt partake in Watersports activities. FAR TOO EXPENSIVE!

The campsite is in a lovely location on the lake and really is an area of natural beauty. The staff were consistently friendly and welcoming. There is a lovely cafe on site although slightly expensive. Lots of families with young children which was great for us as everyone was very aware of kids playing out the front of the campsite. Great opportunities if you have older children with activities on the lake. Good washing up facilities and a washing machine available for £4.50 a wash.

    Disliked:

It is the sole reason we would not return and that is the toilet situation. At night the toilets are a long walk in pitch black, with the sound of the bells on the boats and the lake and to be fair it is something out of a horror story. And both me and my husband were completely freaked out and we all avoided the toilet at night. If you are a woman or single parent I would strongly recommend taking a camping toilet. The first part of the week the toilets were spotless however, the 2nd half they were very dirty. I think this is more likely to do with the other campers rather than the staff as people were putting paper towels down toilets and blocking them. Showers are separated in cubicles 2 that lock the rest with curtains. And there is a communal dressing area. It wasn't a major concern for us but it is good to be aware of. They are doing up a family bathroom which will be good but we unfortunately could not use that. The pitches are also very bumpy so do take plenty of ground mats
