  • Free access to farm park attraction, 0.5 miles to Porthcothan Bay
  • Mid way between beautiful Padstow and the night life of Newquay
  • Animals, rides, free range family fun plus the SW coastal path closeby

Old Macdonald's Farm is a small family run park nestling amongst the rolling hills of the Cornish countryside, yet just half a mile from the beautiful Porthcothan Bay, situated along the north Cornish coast between Padstow and Newquay. Young children will enjoy the freedom of a visit to Old MacDonald’s Farm. And what could be better than relaxing in the sunshine, watching the children play whilst indulging in a delicious homemade Cornish cream tea, or sampling scrumpy?

The campsite is an ideal base for touring this magnificent Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty. In a beautiful rural setting but only half a mile from the beach, Old MacDonald’s Farm is the perfect choice for families, walkers or anyone just wanting a quiet relaxing break. The site is divided into four small bays and has good size grass pitches. The amenity block has shower rooms with toilets, one of which has disabled facilities. Washing up facilities are also available as well as an extra toilet block. Additionally, there is a separate laundry room and baby changing facilities within the main building.

Families camping with us have free entry to the Old MacDonald's Farm Park attraction, which includes a miniature ride on train, pony rides, pedal Go-Karts, giant in-ground trampolines, climbing frames, sandpits, crazy golf plus lots more, and can help feed the animals in the morning too.

There is a café serving hot and cold food, beverages and snacks during the day, plus a small games room on site, which has a pool table, air hockey, table tennis, foosball table etc. but no evening entertainment.

We loved staying here. The camp site was well kept, not too crammed in and fairly quiet. Staff were friendly and helpful through out. Our 5 year old adored going to the farm especially playing on the go carts and feeding the animals. The nearest beach is a 15-20 minute walk away and it's a super beach for families. We spent many happy hours there. We got the bus right outside the campsite for a trip to Padstow. It couldn't have been easier and great fun seeing the views from the top of the double decker. We took the advice in the campsite shop and had fish and chips from St Merryn. Delicious! Very, very happy with our holiday 😀

Not a huge site, which was lovely for our first trip in the camper with our toddler. Great facilities - it was absolutely ideal to have the farm park available to use between 08.30 and 20.30 (campers only outside normal opening hours), to keep our toddler entertained between visits elsewhere, when cooking tea and such like. It is well fenced and very safe for the little ones to explore and roam around under supervision. Animal feeding times (campers only) were a great addition - really lovely to encourage the children to take part in this - ours loved it!

The showers and toilet blocks were clean, plenty of hooks for clothing, and we liked the large cubicles with toilet, sink and shower in (wet room style) which meant we had plenty of room for our toddler to be there with one of us. Very clean and well maintained site, plenty of water points and waste disposal points.

The onsite cafe is very good value for money - enormous portions and relatively inexpensive. Fantastic milkshakes and smoothies! The shop stocks useful items for campers such as bread, milk and meal ideas as well as various toys, books and ice cream.

The location itself was fantastic - a quiet area but quick access to Newquay, Padstow and further afield such as Port Isaac and Tintagel if you wanted. A huge number of local attractions within easy travelling distance suitable for children as well (we visited Lappa Valley Steam Railway and Dairyland Farmworld on this trip) but you are spoiled for choice.

Porthcothan Bay (about 0.5 miles away - you could walk it if you're brave enough for the hill on the way home!) is stunning and very clean. Very sheltered and at low tide the sandy beach goes on forever! Lovely café and shop there too, and parking opposite which is inexpensive.

We will be back next year!

    Disliked:

If you choose to bring your dog, the dog walking field is the same field which is grazed upon in the evenings and overnight by the ponies - this is ok if both you and your dog are used to this (we are, having horses of our own) but could be disconcerting if not. Would recommend choosing an alternative area to walk your dog - plenty about - and dogs are allowed at Porthcothan Bay even in the summer months which is fab.

Just back from a holiday on 'old McDonald's farm', I have to say I don't normally write reviews but felt this place deserved one as that was what had drawn myself to this fantastic place. We as a family normally go to haven sites but found this so much better!
Myself, my wife and 2 children aged 7 & 9 really enjoyed this place and felt most welcome by the owner Rob, there is plenty to do and my children didn't stop from 8:30am to 8:30pm, they were really sad to leave but we will certainly return there again.
Also great location if you surf or bodyboard as there is a great beach literally 2 mins down the road.

Enjoyed the location. Pleasant for walks. Close clean sandy beach.
Small compact site, pitch fee included admission into 'Old McDonald's' seeing all the animals, feeding and grooming, train rides, golf and all day kiddies entertainment which appeared very good value. Shop on site for essentials and cafe for all. Having been a parent I liked the shop as all the child 'I want ' items weren't expensive
Showers and toilets well designed and clean, washing up areas included
Enjoyed our out of season stay very much and would always return again.

Local attractions

Padstow is just five miles from the campsite with numerous stunning bays along the coastline including Bedruthan Steps and The Seven Bays. There are many interesting places to visit within a short drive, for example the Eden Project is only 15 miles away, plus for thrill seekers there is fabulous surfing at Watergate Bay just 6 miles away, and St Eval Kart Circuit 1.8 miles from the site.

Walkers can pick up the South West Coastal Path at the beach for lovely walks along the headland and there is even a regular bus service that runs between Padstow and Newquay and stops right outside the site so there’s no need to walk both ways unless you want to.

The nearest beach, Porthcothan, is a delightful little bay, perfect for families, great for bathing and surfing. It is a narrow inlet with cliffs, sand dunes, rockpools, even a little stream running down to the sea all combine to make it an idyllic place for children.

If you're a foody, there is plenty of choice to entice your appetite from Rick Stein's The Seafood Restaurant, The Cornish Arms pub, Paul Ainsworth's Number 6 and Jamie Oliver's Fifteen at Watergate Bay with it's stunning summer sunsets, not to be missed. Along with the local pub, The Tredrea reknown for it's breathtaking views over Porthcothan Bay.
