  • Well-maintained friendly site on the edge of Bodmin Moor
  • A 25-minute drive to Cornwall's north coast; 35 mins to Eden Project
  • Easy access from the A30; pub 15 minutes' walk away
Leave the noise of modern life behind and replace it with the gentle hum of moorland life… relaxed Cornwall site Traveller’s Rest is just on the edge of Bodmin Moor, in a rural spot where you can really slow the pace of life for a little while. The setup here is one of proper countryside peace, with plenty of space, friendly farm animals in the adjacent fields and lovely views out over your moorland surroundings (and all the way to Dartmoor on a fine day). Settle down at this peaceful site and you’ll most likely get the idea that you’re entirely immersed in rural life – but in fact, this spot is also really rather well located for getting in, getting out and heading all over to see the sights. The A30 is just over a mile away from the site, making it a doddle to get out to the rest of Cornwall – including both the north and south coastlines. Launceston is about 15 minutes’ drive away for shops and other bits and bobs, and you can walk to the local pub in about 15 minutes. Facilities on site here have been well thought out, including toilets, showers, a washing machine and communal areas where you can find the team, use the shared fridge and freezer, or just pop in for a chat and a cuppa. Owner Andy grew up around these parts so is a handy person to natter to for local tips; he and his team are always happy to help if there’s something you need during your stay (well, within reason…)

What customers say

This is a small, peaceful campsite with friendly and helpful owners. Guests consistently praise the quiet atmosphere, flat pitches, and good value. While many appreciate the basic, decent amenities, some reviews highlight a need for upgrading the toilet and shower facilities, with occasional mentions of cleanliness concerns. The narrow access road is frequently noted as challenging for larger vehicles like caravans, though suitable for tents and motorhomes. WiFi is generally good. Animals and open space are popular with children.

Electric grass tent or trailer tent pitch

Liked It's cheap and cheerful. Andy was so helpful, understanding and welcoming. For peak season, it was a very quiet site with good amenities and plenty of happy campers including Andy's own staff. Would highly recommend to those who want a straight forward camp, ideally situated between the North Cornwall & South Cornwall coastline. I wish Andy all the best with his recovery and hope to see him again in the future :-)

Electric grass tent or trailer tent pitch

Liked Absolutely nothing in the end.

Disliked Unfortunately, our experience at The Travellers Rest was extremely disappointing.

We booked for 14th–21st August, but after arriving we found that there were no usable shower facilities. The only shower that was made available to us was covered in pubic hair and was completely unhygienic and unusable. For a campsite stay, having access to clean, usable washing facilities should be a basic expectation.

Because of this, we made the difficult decision to pack everything back up and leave on 15th August, meaning we lost almost the entire week we had booked and paid for.

We approached the owner to request a refund for the unused nights, especially given the lack of basic facilities, but unfortunately this was refused. We also contacted Pitchup regarding the situation, and despite them being involved, the owner still refused to offer a refund.

What made the situation even worse was the way we were spoken to by the owner, including sexist remarks that were completely unacceptable and unnecessary.

It is such a shame because we were really looking forward to our stay, but the lack of facilities, hygiene issues and the way the situation was handled completely ruined the experience for us.

Sadly, based on our experience, we would not return or recommend this campsite.

From the manager: Thanks you for your review and so sorry you had such a bad experience. I have chosen not to respond to your comments some of which I find personally quite hurtful and upsetting. Following your comments as I said I left it to Pitchup. I am always ready to give a 100% refund if the reasons given are genuine. I hope and pray that your future stays are happy experiences for you all. Take care.

I'm definitely going to return..

Liked Good size pitches, nice and flat. Host is very approachable and friendly.

Disliked Facilities need urgent upgrading and perhaps a small play area for the kids to go and play. A swing or two..

Electric grass tent or trailer tent pitch

Liked Host was warm and welcoming. A few issues in the begining but the owner sorted this out in a timely manner.
Quiet campsite with plenty of open space for kids to play. No facilities for children but the open space, foodball, Frisbees and toys we took with was plently enough. We went as a group, with 2 other tents and most of the time we were the only ones there.
It is very basic, 2 toilets (one a shed toilet and another in the main building), with 1 shower. We were a bit concerned by the £1 for 10 minutes shower but this was plenty of time and lots of space to get kids and myself all showered and dresses. WiFi was in and out but ideally we wanted a stay where kids were away from screens so was perfect for this. For a cheap, quiet camping experience we all had a wonderful time and was good value for monies spent.

Liked Nothing

Disliked Mouldy showers
Dirty toilet
No hosts present at time of arrival to speak to about the issues

Did not end up staying and lost out on payment

Recommend to friends Visit again

From the manager: Firstly sorry I was very sick and not available but my campsite manager was here. there is only one shower that is cleaned daily. Toilets also cleaned and checked a number of times a day.

Very sad that someone who did not even stay should write such a negative review.

The campsite manager we as on hand and was going to speak to them and welcome them but they just drove away in minutes.

To give 1 for child friendliness, location and wifi is rather sad. Wifi is very fast indeed. Location? So did not know where it was before arrival? Child friendliness, strange, did the children have time to play or meet with others?

Non-electric grass tent or trailer tent pitch

Liked -Small, level pitches
-Friendly site manager who couldn't do enough

It was fine for us in a van as it was only a stop off on our way home.

Disliked -Only 1 toilet outside and it was pretty grubby (could be an issue if there's more than a couple campers on site)
-Only 1 washing up area, with a COLD water tap!!
-Shower is inside a house where all the rooms are individually rented out, which was really strange!
-Permanent 'vanlifers' living on the site in a lorry, cabin etc. It would feel nicer if the campsite was hedged off and private from them and the bungalow. Too many individuals coming & going.
-Holiday makers renting the rooms using the campsite field as a sunbathing spot.

Recommend to friends Visit again

From the manager: Dont understand the 'vanlifers' comment as there is no cabin or lorry on the site. Maybe you are referring to the adjoining field? Also the rooms are not rented by holiday makers. I could make more corrections but sadly there are too many factually incorrect statements.

Good campsite, but urgently needs toilet block to fit in.

Electric grass touring pitch

Liked I think this was the best grass pitch I ever been to, flat and thick grass very nice. Very quiet. Pub close. Very cheap. Very helpful host (over the phone as not at the location)

Disliked We came with twin axle caravan and it was tight, contact owner before you arrive with caravan. Toilet not great but ok for a day, not cleaned daily for sure. Shower not clean not nice (we skipped that as only stayed for one day). If I had it booked for more than one day I would be looking for something different in the area. Good condition of toilet and shower is a must for me with small kids.

Electric grass tent or trailer tent pitch

Liked Lovely open space with access to facilities to get by. This was my first time camping and had a great time!
Shout out to Tony (I think his name was) and Emma who were staying on the site! They were welcoming and made the effort keeping the kids entertained by playing football with them and cheering our baby on when he took steps! We will definitely be back here! Brill price for what we wanted!
