Looking west towards the wild field

General

  • Friendly and family-run rural site 10 minutes' drive from Helston
  • A natural wildlife habitat with plenty of space to play
  • Pub within walking distance; two miles from Praa Sands beach

Ah, that old Cornish dilemma: coast or country? If you conclude that a bit of both would be quite tremendous, take a look at Tremorvu, a friendly, family-run place that’s got both distant sea views and eight acres of rural space to play with.

The peaceful fields here are bordered by hedges that encourage the local wildlife to hang around; pop your head over the top and you’ll be looking north towards Tregonning Hill or south to see the sea at Praa Sands (two miles away). Grab a glass, put your feet up and face west at a suitable hour and you may well be in for a spectacular sunset to finish the day.

Within those hedges are plenty of space to strike up a barbie or campfire while the nippers and hounds run about. In peak season, a small shop opens up to sell local eggs, milk, bread, bacon and other essentials, plus the occasional homemade cake. Other supplies can be picked up at the supermarkets in Helston (10 minutes’ drive), and there’s an excellent pub 15 minutes’ walk away if you’d like a little stroll before your drinks and dins.

Working up an appetite for meals shouldn’t be too hard… there are walks, bike rides, surfing, watersports and beach days all within a few miles, and you’re also in a strategic position for days out at St Michael's Mount, St Ives, The Flambards Experience and heaps more Cornish faves.

Very peaceful and relaxed. Great location to visit all sorts of places around the tip of Cornwall. 2nd time we've visited this year and both times the campsite was nice and quiet. We got to chose where to pitch our tent due to only 1 other couple being there and this was great as it meant we had a field to ourselves for the majority of our stay! Super friendly owners and well kept fields.

    Disliked:

Drainage in the showers wasn't great, I managed to flood the room a couple times but a mop was provided and I did my best!

We really like this site, this was the second time we stayed there, the first being two years ago when we stayed in the Shepherds Hut. After recently buying a campervan we decided to stay here being as we enjoyed it so much the last time. It is peaceful and very well organised, the showers and toilets are spotless. This site is ideally situated being within easy reach of The Lizard, St Michael’s Mount, Lands End, St Ives and only 35 miles from Newquay.

Pitch was perfect rural and great views and location was great an easy drive to all areas great local fishing village. Bell tent was perfect and clean.

Kind and friendly welcome would recommend

    Disliked:

Showers could do with an upgrade although fully functional and clean the shower only stays on for 20/30 secs at a time so makes for a frustratingly slow shower. Perhaps mop bucket for floors could have been emptied more.
Other than that I cannot fault this camp site at all.

Fabulous campsite. Everything you needed was there. What we loved it was all kept simple and felt like proper camping. Great introduction for the kids and for us to know what gear to get were we to buy a tent and cooking stuff. Will come again but actually with our own tent next time !
Loved being able to get fresh bread in the morning for our bacon sarnies ! Everything was near (water, facilities, shop)

    Disliked:

Was all great ! Perhaps some camping chairs would be good ? We had some kids ones but ones for grown ups be great for campfire seating. Picnic bench is a bit hard on the bum after a while ! 😂

Local attractions

Stretch those legs out and get your boots on – there are heaps of fab walks nearby. Traipse up Tregonning Hill (half an hour or so) for tiptop scenic views and then carry on to the National Trust’s Godolphin Estate (an hour’s hike) for gorgeous garden walks. (Top tip: the grounds are particularly ravishing when all the bluebells burst to life in May.)

You can stroll by the sea too should you wish, using the scent of salt air to point you to the South West Coast Path, a mere couple of miles away. You’re never far from a stunning beach in Cornwall, either: the top choices round here are Praa Sands (10 minutes’ drive) for sandcastles, swimming and surfing, and the little secluded cove at Rinsey, just a little further east. For kayaking and paddleboarding, plot a course to Porthleven harbour (15 minutes).

Pack yourselves into the car and you’re within easy reach of all sorts of day trips: St Michael's Mount (15 minutes), The Flambards Experience (20 minutes), the Cornish Seal Sanctuary (25 minutes) and the galleries of St Ives (half an hour); you might also consider going all the way to the edge at Land’s End (40 minutes).
