Camping field

General

  • Friendly and family-run rural site 10 minutes' drive from Helston
  • A natural wildlife habitat with plenty of space to play
  • Pub within walking distance; two miles from Praa Sands beach

Ah, that old Cornish dilemma: coast or country? If you conclude that a bit of both would be quite tremendous, take a look at Tremorvu, a friendly, family-run place that’s got both distant sea views and eight acres of rural space to play with.

The peaceful fields here are bordered by hedges that encourage the local wildlife to hang around; pop your head over the top and you’ll be looking north towards Tregonning Hill or south to see the sea at Praa Sands (two miles away). Grab a glass, put your feet up and face west at a suitable hour and you may well be in for a spectacular sunset to finish the day.

Within those hedges are plenty of space to strike up a barbie or campfire while the nippers and hounds run about. In peak season, a small shop opens up to sell local eggs, milk, bread, bacon and other essentials, plus the occasional homemade cake. Other supplies can be picked up at the supermarkets in Helston (10 minutes’ drive), and there’s an excellent pub 15 minutes’ walk away if you’d like a little stroll before your drinks and dins.

Working up an appetite for meals shouldn’t be too hard… there are walks, bike rides, surfing, watersports and beach days all within a few miles, and you’re also in a strategic position for days out at St Michael's Mount, St Ives, The Flambards Experience and heaps more Cornish faves.

Please note

The grocery shop is open between 16/07 and 31/08.

Lovely quiet site with good size pitches. We had a tent, gazebo and a pup tent with 2 cars and there was more than enough room for 4 of us and a dog!
Free WiFi was a little intermittent but we were on holiday and the weather was good so didn’t really bother us.
Although there aren’t masses of toilet facilities we never had to wait for a shower and there was always plenty of hot water.
Location was ideal if you wanted to get out and about with Penzance and St Ives not too far away.

    Disliked:

Nothing really. The road in was a bit bumpy with a tight turn at the top so not sure how easy it would be if you were towing.
It was a bit unusual for the electric hook up point to be over the hedge - maybe this will be changed in the future??

Great little campsite. The owners have tried to make each pitch quite private. Short distance from beautiful Porthleven.

    Disliked:

The only downside to the campsite is the cleanliness of the toilet and shower facilities, but this is down to the campers as opposed to the owners as they can't keep on top of every person not cleaning up after themselves. However, the showers are nice and hot.

The tent and kitchen area was clean, tidy and well kept, and the bed was comfortable. The facilities were great, plenty of showers, toilets and washing up areas to accommodate the number of people camping there - we never had to wait for either. The pitch sizes were a good size and laid out nicely. Everything in the campsite was easy to get to and easy to navigate. Lee was very welcoming and answered any questions we had perfectly, and went out of his way to ensure we had everything we needed.

    Disliked:

The lack of leg room in the toilet cubicles.

Nice location for trips to Lands End, Sennon Cove, Minac, St Michaels Mount, Praa Sands & my fav Porthleven.

Very laid back site, nice and quiet and chilled. Facilities were good although could have done with some more male toilets. Nice little shop with fresh bread and the very basic requirements. Good laundry facilities. Indoor and outdoor washing up areas. Glamping tents looked fabulous.
Great location, sheltered and not very far from anything that you would like to go and see, beaches, Minack Theatre, St Michael's Mount, The Lizard, Seal Sanctuary to name but a few things we enjoyed.

    Disliked:

    Shortage of male toilets.

Local attractions

Stretch those legs out and get your boots on – there are heaps of fab walks nearby. Traipse up Tregonning Hill (half an hour or so) for tiptop scenic views and then carry on to the National Trust’s Godolphin Estate (an hour’s hike) for gorgeous garden walks. (Top tip: the grounds are particularly ravishing when all the bluebells burst to life in May.)

You can stroll by the sea too should you wish, using the scent of salt air to point you to the South West Coast Path, a mere couple of miles away. You’re never far from a stunning beach in Cornwall, either: the top choices round here are Praa Sands (10 minutes’ drive) for sandcastles, swimming and surfing, and the little secluded cove at Rinsey, just a little further east. For kayaking and paddleboarding, plot a course to Porthleven harbour (15 minutes).

Pack yourselves into the car and you’re within easy reach of all sorts of day trips: St Michael's Mount (15 minutes), The Flambards Experience (20 minutes), the Cornish Seal Sanctuary (25 minutes) and the galleries of St Ives (half an hour); you might also consider going all the way to the edge at Land’s End (40 minutes).

  • Flambards (4.7 miles)
  • St Michael's Mount (5.2 miles)
