General

  • Near Kennack Sands on the Lizard Peninsula
  • Campfires allowed: kindling and logs for sale
  • Bar with carvery, all you can eat deals, beer garden and bouncy castle

'I’m free, to do what I want, any old time...' Free spirits will enjoy Namparra Campsite, near Kennack Sands on Cornwall’s Lizard Peninsula: visitors are at liberty to light their own campfire and can pick their perfect spot within the lush six-acre camping meadow to get the best of the gorgeous sea views. Fellow residents include a handful of friendly goats and a pondful of ducks and moorhens.

With the Cow Shed Bar just a short stroll away, guests can also freely sample the local cider and scrummy homemade cocktails over a game of pool, without any arguments about who is designated driver.

The Shed serves all you can eat breakfasts every day during school holidays, all you can eat curry once a week and a carvery on Sundays. It also has regular entertainment and the beer garden has been extended to house the free bouncy castle assault course for the kids to bounce around at.

Wooden cabins house the showers and loos, and there’s a sheltered washing-up area and a small laundry room. You can get kindling and logs for your campfire on site, or dig your own firepit.

Simple to book in, no frills site where u can choose your pitch. Large field with the sound of birds all evening. Shame about other campsite with music on a saturday night. Very close to Kannack sands - 5 mins in car.

    Disliked:

Toilet/showers could do with more regular cleaning by staff as they are combined so floor was wet if you just needed the toilet.

This was our first ever camping trip for my girls ... 02/06/2018

This was our first ever camping trip for my girls (4 & 6) so I wanted something just to help them feel comfortable and not too far from home.. I needn’t have worried! My eldest was begging me to book another night! I loved watching them make friends with other children on site & find games to play together and run around the field barefoot, collecting sticks and squelching through mud with no shoes on, exploring - just seemed so much like what childhood memories should be made of. The farm animals and especially the trampoline were also a big hit. It’s a fairly simple yet child friendly site and great value for money. Was a great introduction to camping for the 3 of us and we all can’t wait to have more adventures.

    Disliked:

Small issue that was my fault, we weren’t told that the toilet and shower codes were on the back of our tent ticket. She we spent the first part of the stay needing a wee but not being able to unlock the toilets. I eventually realised this though and all was fine.

We found namparra to be a friendly campsite with basic but clean facilities. We liked that we could camp where we wanted and have an open camp fire. Thanks liked seeing the animals and playing on the trampoline.
The beach was very close by which had two cafes and beach shops. There's a toilet and parking costs £3 all day. You can go for a coastal walk from here too.

    Disliked:

It was a bit of a trek from the camping field to reception which unfortunately was smelly (the cow shed bar). The kids play park needs a bit updating and could do with more in it. We didn't mind the toilet and shower facilities but for some, showering in a summer house might not be there cup of tea. The toilets are in with the showers so if they were full of people having a shower and need the toilet you might have a long wait. Not ideal for kids.

Local attractions

About 20 minutes’ walk from Namparra Campsite you’ll find Kennack Sands, a fantastic family beach with a great café; a similar walk in the other direction takes you through a picturesque valley to Poltesco, a hidden cove with a pebbly beach and the photogenic ruins of an old serpentine works, and the Lizard Point with its iconic lighthouse.

This part of Cornwall is peppered with enchanting fishing villages, including nearby Cadgwith: if you’re lucky enough to be here on a Friday night (known in these parts as Saint Inebriatus’ Eve!), you can join the renowned Cadgwith Singers for a singalong of sea shanties in the local pub.

There are loads of good days out for the family, too: the seal sanctuary at Gweek; Cornish Camels for tractor rides, a giant sandpit and lots of animals, including, of course, camels; the Flambards Experience theme park; and the Poldark Mine, for a glimpse into the life of a tin miner and a wide range of fun activities including gold panning, candle dipping and pottery throwing.

Must see

  • National Seal Sanctuary (6.3 miles)
  • Flambards (7.0 miles)
  • Trebah Garden (7.3 miles)

National Trust

  • Glendurgan Garden (7.3 miles)
  • Penrose Estate: Gunwalloe and Loe Pool (7.6 miles)
