  • Near Kennack Sands on the Lizard Peninsula
  • Campfires allowed; kindling and logs for sale
  • Bar on site with beer garden
'I’m free, to do what I want, any old time…' Free spirits will enjoy Namparra Campsite, near Kennack Sands on Cornwall’s Lizard Peninsula: visitors are at liberty to light their own campfire and can pick their perfect spot within the lush six-acre camping meadow to get the best of the gorgeous sea views. Fellow residents include alpacas, sheep and pigs, plus a flock of ducks and chickens whose eggs can be bought in the site shop. With the Riptide Bar and Grill just a short stroll away, guests can also freely sample the local cider and homemade cocktails over a game of pool, without any arguments about who's the designated driver. The bar also has regular entertainment and a beer garden (plus bacon baps available from the shop/reception area the morning after…) Four unisex wetrooms (with toilet, sink and shower) are on hand for all guests to use, with an additional new toilet block housing an extra four toilets just for the ladies. There’s also a sheltered washing-up area and a small laundry room. You can get kindling and logs for your campfire on site, or dig your own firepit. In-ground trampolines have been set up so that kids have a safe space to bounce away from any such proceedings.

Liked Absolutely nothing

Disliked We had booked to stay here camping for the whole weekend but on our first night a man who had been heavily drinking at the on-site bar decided to drink drive into the field and reverse towards our camp. We woke up to the sounds of a grinding clutch right outside our tent at midnight. When I asked the man what he was doing and politely asked him to move elsewhere (the field is huge and there were only one or two parties staying in the entire field) he refused to do so and was incredibly threatening. Given that is was 1am and I had no phone signal, I was scared for my safety and the safety of my family and had no choice but to pack up and drive 3 hours to my home in the middle of the night. Before we left the man decided to then spend 10 minutes throwing up next to our tent. Given the campsites policy of not allowing vehicle movement overnight, I am shocked that this situation was ever allowed to happen. I would strongly advise anyone camping with family, especially young children to avoid this campsite at all costs. At this point I am just glad we were not run over by a car.

Non-electric grass pitch

Liked Nothing

Disliked Everything. Upon arrival we had to drive down a dirt track which was decorated with scrap cars & caravans. The grass hadn't been cut in the camping field, the 'toilet block' was a shed. There were no pitches so we chose a spot away from the residents living in caravans which meant we were quite a distance from the toilets. We stayed for 10 minutes & booked an alternative site.

Recommend to friends Visit again

From the manager: Shame you didn't look around a bit more, you may have found the actual toilets which are block built, you must have only found the beach hut wet rooms which are being refurbished.I, not sure if you realised by the fact we have sheep, goats, pigs etc but we are a small holding so the middle of the field is grown for hay, leaving the perimeter for camping on,the hay will be bailed in July opening up the whole field again. We do not have any residents but we do have seasonal pitch holders who pay for a seasonal pitch and can then come and go as much as they like. The scrap cars you say are on the track are in fact contained within a yard and belong to a different business,a car breakers who has come to the rescue of quite a few campers over the years if they have had car problems.Hope this helps explain a few things to you.

Liked Quiet, close to beach

Disliked We perhaps picked this location too far out of season (15th May). Site was empty just locals which seem to live there in their caravans, they didn’t seem too keen to see us.
Shower facilities were in sheds with limited lighting.
Seemed different to online pics, however given benefit of the doubt it was due to being out of season maybe?

Recommend to friends Visit again

From the manager: Thankyou for taking time to leave a review, yes early season can be very quiet, our bar and restaurant only open weekends too. We don't have any locals living here but we do have some seasonal pitch holders who can come and go whenever they like over the course of a season. We don't use bright lights anywhere as given the wonderful skies that we have we want to cause minimal light pollution.Maybe you would like to give us another try at a busier time of year,we have live bands on Saturdays throughout the main season aswell as disco karaoke on Fridays.

Liked Close to nature

Disliked Dirty toilets, showers, shabby bar and cold welcome

Recommend to friends Visit again

From the manager: very surprised on the 'shabby bar' comment as when you arrived the actual bar was being sanded out ready for it's waxing!hardly 'shabby' lol 'cold welcome'? it would have been Roo that checked you in(he was also the one sanding the bar) and is well known for his friendliness and the showers/toilets are in the middle of having new floors so may not look at their best but will be so much better than they were.

Non-electric grass pitch

Liked very low maintenance, quiet site, close to the beach.

Disliked Was instructed to check in on arrival, however there was no where to check in and no one on site.
Toilets had no loo roll, hand roll and were not cleaned for the entirety of our 48 hour stay.
The site was clearly not ready for the beginning of season, with a tip run needed. Not worth £18 per night.

Non-electric grass pitch

Liked It was peaceful as hardly anyone there luckily. The weather was good to us! The farm animals were cute. We didn’t see anyone.

Disliked Unfortunately no paper hand towels in the ladies for the weekend we were there.
Paid £10 for our dog-more than for the 3 of us!

Liked Absolutely nothing

Disliked Dirty untidy entrance
Dirty uncleaned bar/clubhouse
Toilets and showers were the most disgusting unhygienic cesspit I have ever seen.
The photographs used to advertise the site are old and very misleading.
This site was so bad that we left after one night having paid for three.

From the manager: the shower rooms are getting new floors for 2025 as even scrubbing cannot remove the mould,so new floors correctly draining.

Local attractions

About 20 minutes’ walk from Namparra Campsite you’ll find Kennack Sands, a fantastic family beach with a great café; a similar walk in the other direction takes you through a picturesque valley to Poltesco, a hidden cove with a pebbly beach and the photogenic ruins of an old serpentine works, and the Lizard Point with its iconic lighthouse. This part of Cornwall is peppered with enchanting fishing villages, including nearby Cadgwith: if you’re lucky enough to be here on a Friday night (known in these parts as Saint Inebriatus’ Eve!), you can join the renowned Cadgwith Singers for a singalong of sea shanties in the local pub. There are loads of good days out for the family, too: the seal sanctuary at Gweek, Cornish Camels for tractor rides, a giant sandpit and lots of animals, including, of course, camels, the Flambards Experience theme park;,and the Poldark Mine, for a glimpse into the life of a tin miner and a wide range of fun activities including gold panning, candle dipping and pottery throwing.
