General

  • Relaxed family park 10 minutes' walk from Kennack Sands
  • Licensed shop, pizza takeaway, fire baskets and chimeneas on site
  • Three amenities blocks with well-kept toilets and hot showers

If your camping and caravan checklist includes gorgeous Cornish sea views, quick access to golden beaches and so much to do for mini campers that you can fine the kids if anyone dares utter the phrase ‘I’m bored’, seasidey Chy Carne Holiday Park will tick all your holiday boxes.

This is a relaxed, spacious and spankingly clean site with a strong family focus, dog-friendly and close to acclaimed beaches like Kennack Sands as well as many of the main attractions and towns of Cornwall: Helston, Falmouth and St Austell are all within easy reach.

The kids can go Aaaarrr and clamber around the play pirate ship, get competitive at the outdoor games or kick a ball around the grassy open space, while the bigger folk can sit back and prepare the barbecue, have a campfire on one of the Chy Carne chimeneas or fire baskets, or sit back with a nosh or a sip from the newly built licensed shop (opening times and stock limited out of season).

There’s a pizza takeaway on site too if you can’t be bothered cooking (open until 11pm in peak season), so you can polish off a pepperoni before moseying along to sit over a real ale or local cider in the summer marquee bar: with its lighting, seating and cosy atmosphere you may decide to linger for a while…

The first-class facilities here have plenty of hot showers, toilets, washbasins and washing-up sinks (four, to be exact) so queues are unlikely even in peak season, and as the three amenity blocks are in different areas of the park there’ll be no need for long hikes to the toilet at night. There’s a launderette on site too with two commercial washing machines and two driers.

Chy Carne welcomes well-behaved pets.

We were welcomed to the site by the friendliest staff members who were willing to do anything to make our stay pleasant. we were given a lovely pitch and took a walk around the site and saw at the most beautiful sea views. The shop had more than the camping essentials, never seen such a fully stocked shop on a campsite before.
The marquee being the bar is a great idea. It's more original than your average clubhouse. It had a pool table and tv which was a very chilled and relaxing vibe. The toilets were the best toilets on a campsite I've ever seen. So well maintained, clean and spacious and only 50p for a shower! The food onsite was amazing both from the takeaway snack shack to the pizzas. Even though we were doing activities off site we couldn't wait to come back and especially when we booked out a firepit for the evenings and were looking at the stars. We were only supposed to stay for the one night but we asked the owner if we could extend our stay and she said we could stay as long as we liked. So we extended our stay for another 3 nights! Just didn't want to leave. I will definitely be returning next year and recommend this site to anyone who enjoys camping and a family-friendly site for great value for money. Thank you Chy Carne for the most fantastic holiday!

Location is excellent for access to Kennack Sands beach. There was a view of the sea from my caravan.

    Facilities all good and clean.

Had an issue with a noisy neighbour, however the staff quickly dealt with it and there were no further incidents.

Staff are lovely and very helpful.

The location was stunning, had a perfect view of the sea, really loved listening to the waves at night.
When we arrived it was pouring with rain, the staff on the campsite were really helpful, Big thank you to Stan and Brynn, I think we would of given up and gone home!
The food at the shack is freshly cooked to order, a little bit of a wait but well worth it, I would definitely recommend the nachos and full English breakfast,
The bar in a marquee had a friendly atmosphere and sold locale ale etc,

The most important thing to me when camping is clean toilets and showers, they were absolutely spotless and the showers were hot!

They had a freshly cooked takeaway pizza service and a well equipped shop, the staff in there were really helpful too, thank you for the "things to do" recommendations!

Really enjoyed my stay, thanks again Chy Carne for the help you all gave, we will definitely be back next year and for a longer visit!!

Everything, what's not to like. What a gem of a site in the best part of totally unspoiled Cornwall. Breathtaking views over the sea. Lots of beautiful walks direct from the site and the dog friendly beach only a short walk away. Family run and the owners and staff are brilliant. Nothing is too much trouble for them. There's a marquee selling every drink you could possibly want. The shop on-site sells absolutely everything . The snack shack does amazing food that's all freshly prepared and decently priced. There's a pizza place which makes them from scratch, and are extremely tasty. The toilet and shower block were spotless clean as was the washing up and laundry room. I've stayed here before and would definitely return again, I've made some great friends here. Not forgetting the fire-pits that can be hired out and even delivered to your pitch with logs and kindling, marshmallows taste awesome done on them while you Stargate and chill in the ambiance of the warm growing fire.
So much to do and see in a very special place.
    Didn't want to go home.
    WELL DONE CHY CARNE.

Local attractions

The clean, safe and award-winning Kennack Sands (with lifeguards on duty during the summer months) is a 10-minute walk from Chy Carne, and has shops and cafés as well as a dog-friendly stretch on one side: hum the theme from Jaws as you spot a basking shark, or clamber up the coastal path for scenic walks in both directions.

A quick drive away is Kynance Cove which is one of the most photographed spots in Cornwall: fool folk that you’re in the Med by snapping a pic here or at postcard perfect Mullion Cove on a sunny day.

The Site of Special Scientific Interest Goonhilly Downs is on the doorstep, best known for its Goonhilly Satellite Earth Station, once the biggest in the world and still with satellite dishes that can be seen for miles: the building of a new space science centre on the site was announced in 2011.

Let the kids loose too at the Lizard Point Lighthouse, the last manned lighthouse before automation and now with a heritage centre with exhibits, displays and some of the original engines, or take them to drool over the dromedaries at Cornish Camels.

As it’s Cornwall, holidaymakers of an amphibious disposition will be in heaven with top sailing, surfing, scuba diving and other watersports along this stretch of Cornish coast, and several surf and scuba schools in the area for both newbies and water experts. Landlubbers will find plenty to do too: horse riding, bird (and shark) spotting, golf, fishing, clay pigeon shooting and more are all within reach.

Day trips include squawking at the Cornish Seal Sanctuary at Gweek, flying at the thrill rides of The Flambards Experience and Crealy Great Adventure Park, or browsing around the towns of Falmouth, St Ives, Penzance and Truro for seafood, shopping, more beautiful beaches and a boat ride to the ancient harbour at Marizion’s St Michael’s Mount.

Finally, round off your trip with an afternoon or evening at Penzance’s clifftop open-air Minack Theatre – squint a little bit at the amphitheatre and you could almost imagine you’re in Roman Britain…
