  • Relaxed family park 10 minutes' walk from Kennack Sands
  • Licensed shop, pizza takeaway, fire baskets and chimeneas on site
  • Three amenities blocks with well-kept toilets and hot showers
If your holiday checklist includes gorgeous Cornish sea views, quick access to golden beaches and so much to do for mini campers that you can fine the kids if anyone dares utter the phrase ‘I’m bored’, seasidey Chy Carne Holiday Park should tick all boxes for your break. This is a relaxed, spacious and spankingly clean site with a strong family focus, dog-friendly and close to acclaimed beaches like Kennack Sands (10 minutes' walk) as well as many of the main attractions and towns of Cornwall. Helston, Falmouth and St Austell are all within easy reach, and spectacular Kynance Cove is five minutes' drive away. The kids can go 'Aaaarrr' and clamber around the play pirate ship, get competitive at the outdoor games or kick a ball around the grassy open space, while the bigger folk can sit back and prepare the barbecue, have a campfire on one of the Chy Carne chimeneas or fire baskets, or sit back with a snack or drink from the licensed shop (opening times and stock limited out of season). There’s a pizza takeaway on site too (open during the May half term and school summer holidays only, until 9pm), so you can polish off a pepperoni if you don't feel like cooking. The first-class facilities here have plenty of hot showers (extra charge applies), toilets, washbasins and washing-up sinks (four, to be exact) so queues are unlikely even in peak season. The main amenity block is open at all times, with two more opening up to cope with extra demand in high season (May half term and school summer holidays). There’s a launderette on site too with two commercial washing machines and two driers. Chy Carne welcomes well-behaved pets.

Liked The campsite is lovely and the woman that greeted us was nice and friendly. We stayed in a roof tent and would recommend ramps as not much of the ground is level. The first pitch we had was way to slanted but was able to ring and ask if we could move and it was no problem at all.
A nice forest dog walk to the beach which is a little longer or 10 mins down the road, we went the long way to keep dog cooler.
Campsite was quiet and relaxing.
We enjoyed our 3 night stay.

Disliked That you couldn’t change the temp of the showers, it was so hot and just wanted to jump into a cool shower but once it’s hot, it’s boiling and was no good with sunburn.
The shop wasn’t very well stocked and no cold drinks in the fridges, the lady did say they hadn’t had there delivery yet for summer though.

Non-electric grass pitch

Liked Lovely location, greeted on arrival with site map and information. Lots of water points. Level, clean pitches. Although it was allocated pitches, they were big and not too squashed together, I was given a more shaded pitch as the weather was soo hot which was very appreciated.

Disliked Some of the toilets were closed and could have had a sign. The pizza place was closed and no obvious opening times so I couldn’t plan to go.

Electric grass pitch

Liked Lovely sized pitches, own water tap and picnic bench and fabulous views of the coast.

Staff were very helpful and friendly.

The site was well maintained, with shower/toilet/wash up block very clean.

Disliked Although the WiFi was available for free it was very patchy and signal was dependent on position on site.

From the manager: Thank you for your recent visit

We are delighted that you enjoyed your stay with us

Unfortunately we are experiencing some issues with the WIFI on site but our engineers are working on the issue.

Our current waste management contractors ( Biffa ) who collect the waste recycle at their processing depot so there is currently no need to provide recycling bins on site..

We appreciate your feedback

Electric grass pitch

Liked Fantastic, beautifully clean campsite with a lovely chilled, family vibe.
Taps on each pitch so you don’t have to walk miles to get water, beautiful well kept pitches and clean toilet and shower facilities.
All staff were friendly and welcoming, we literally can’t praise this place enough it was wonderful and we will definitely be back!
Also less than 5 minutes from the beach, perfect!

Disliked Unfortunately, as with all campsites, the showers were crap.
Ate my money so had to keep popping in and out to put the change in then stopped accepting my change so I was stood there with a head full of conditioner.
Managed to get a different cubicle to work but gave up after my hair was clean and shaved my legs back at the tent. Rubbish pressure and can’t stand underneath it or will have no water.
Literally the only bad thing!

From the manager: Thank you for your recent visit

At Chycarne we have three shower and toilet blocks all situated within a 1 minute walk of each. As advertised during low season Only the main block is open.

The additional small charge for the showers ( 10p per minute ) is reflected in our tariff. £17.00 for two adults per night is very reasonable.

Your comments regarding long stay people is totally unfounded. We have a number of seasonal pitches that are occupied like most camp sites and are far from being referred to as travellers.

Chycarne is a dog friendly campsite.

Given your scoring that certainly appears misguided and untrue and is not reflective of the actual campsite and its facilities The vast majority of visitors find Chycarne a great place to visit and enjoy their stay

Local attractions

The clean, safe and award-winning Kennack Sands (with lifeguards on duty during the summer months) is a 10-minute walk from Chy Carne, and has shops and cafés as well as a dog-friendly stretch on one side: hum the theme from Jaws as you spot a basking shark, or clamber up the coastal path for scenic walks in both directions. A short drive away is Kynance Cove, which is one of the most photographed spots in Cornwall: fool folk that you’re in the Med by snapping a pic here or at postcard-perfect Mullion Cove on a sunny day. The Site of Special Scientific Interest Goonhilly Downs is on the doorstep, best known for its Goonhilly Satellite Earth Station, once the biggest in the world and still with satellite dishes that can be seen for miles: the building of a new space science centre on the site was announced in 2011. Let the kids loose too at the Lizard Point Lighthouse, the last manned lighthouse before automation and now with a heritage centre with exhibits, displays and some of the original engines, or take them to drool over the dromedaries at Cornish Camels. As it’s Cornwall, holidaymakers of an amphibious disposition will be in heaven with top sailing, surfing, scuba diving and other watersports along this stretch of Cornish coast, and several surf and scuba schools in the area for both newbies and water experts. Landlubbers will find plenty to do too: horse riding, bird (and shark) spotting, golf, fishing, clay pigeon shooting and more are all within reach. Day trips include squawking at the Cornish Seal Sanctuary at Gweek or browsing around the towns of Falmouth, St Ives, Penzance and Truro for seafood, shopping, more beautiful beaches and a boat ride to the ancient harbour at Marizion’s St Michael’s Mount. Finally, round off your trip with an afternoon or evening at Penzance’s clifftop open-air Minack Theatre – squint a little bit at the amphitheatre and you could almost imagine you’re in Roman Britain…
