Got your heart set on Fowey as a place to stay? It’s an excellent choice – this cute little town is a real highlight of Cornwall, with a real sense of heritage as well as some gorgeous sea views. Keeping things very simple for a stay here is Lambs Barn Camping Ground, a wild camping site in a wooded valley on the edge of town, about a kilometre from the village centre. From here you'll also be able to walk along a footpath through the woods down to Readymoney beach, a sheltered sandy cove that’s fabulous for a dip in the sea. Longer walks might take you out onto the South West Coast Path, which runs along the entirety of Cornwall’s coastline, and there’s a bus stop just outside the site for longer jaunts around the county. This site is billed as having wild camping – and that’s almost true, as you’ll be settling down in nature-filled grass meadows for a real sense of countryside calm. There are, however, a few conveniences to make your stay a little more comfortable, including a water supply, gas-powered showers and portable toilets. Laundry facilities are close by if you need them. Down in Fowey you should find plenty to entertain yourselves, including watersports centres (with kayak and paddleboard hire) and riverside walks, plus shops, pubs and places to eat. There’s also a ferry service across the bay to Mevagissey (a route that’s well known for dolphin-spotting opportunities).

What customers say

This is a 'pop-up' campsite in a beautiful rural location, praised for its proximity to Fowey town and Readymoney Cove, accessible via a woodland walk. Guests frequently mention the friendly and helpful owner, John. While described as basic, facilities include a hot outdoor shower and clean toilets, with improvements noted in recent years including a new toilet block. The site is often described as peaceful and spacious, though many reviews highlight the sloping nature of the field, recommending levelling ramps. Some guests found the lack of bins inconvenient, but the location and value for money are generally well-regarded.

From the manager: Hello Michael
Thank you for your lovely review and yes each year we are adding something extra that has been requested by our customers / friends, this year we have added 2 more full flushing toilets, a woodland swing area ( 2 kids swings and an adult swing), chill area among the trees and ferns, maybe you will catch sight of our deer or birds of prey that roam our 55 acres.

Best wishes

Non-electric grass campervan or tent pitch

Liked N/a

Disliked Sloped ground, one shower with no lock , toilets one field away. No one to greet us so just drove straight in.

From the manager: My apologies for not meeting you at the gate! We are a ‘pop up’ farm campsite which is clearly written on our Pitchup details for all to see. Further more we have a large sign at our entrance gate which informs our customers to phone my number when they arrive if they need assistance as we are usually out and about on the farm!
We realise that our shower is a little like ‘Marmite’ but we love it, it would be a little difficult to put a lock on it but it is fully secure I assure you and private, I hope you did venture in and use it. Our toilets are meticulously cleaned twice a day and I’m a little disappointed if not annoyed that you have marked us as only 2 on cleanliness.

Liked Really lovely location being so close to Fowey.

Disliked Shame there isn’t a shower block with an area to wash up. But good to see toilets. I have a feeling these amenities are in the pipeline of being constructed

From the manager: Hi Jason
We are slow but steady, yes you are correct in that we are working on new showers, not a block as we are a ‘pop up’ so a little more shabby chic or silo ish 😉!

Thanks

Liked We absolutely loved our stay. The owner made us feel so welcome right from the Start and shared so much local knowledge that made our trip extra special. It’s a little gem of a place. The shower was perfect and beautifully warm toilets were spotless. Will definitely be back next year, can’t wait.!

Liked Proximity to town and beech. Quite. Pleasant surroundings. Very helpful and nice site owner. Good value.

Disliked Mostly unlevel.

From the manager: Hello Paul, thank you for taking your time to give us a review, we appreciate your time and also for visiting us here at Lambs Barn. We have added a further 4 acres camping along from our main site giving us 7 acres of grounds. Of this 4.7 acres are flat and the remainder is, can I say interesting, not flat but not impossible.

See you next year

John

Non-electric grass motorhome pitch

Liked Loved the outdoor shower (really warm water) and the outdoor games!

The site was quiet despite being near the road.

How close it was to Readymoney Cove (10/15 minute walk).

Disliked There's not much in the way of flat areas to camp. We arrived late lunchtime and found that unless we wanted to squeeze in between campers, we had to park in the middle of the field, however, once set up, it was fine.

From the manager: Hello Michelle

Thank you for your lovely review, yes we have a few games for adults and kids this year ( connect 4, table tennis and archery) and have also added some swings in the wood.
As you found out half of our site is sloping but is not a problem with leveller's or orientation!
See you next year

John
