General

  • Family and couples' site on the Devon/Cornwall border
  • A mile and a half from Bude and its beaches
  • Fishing, golf, sports barn, farmyard animals and nature trails

'In the countryside, by the sea' is how the Colwill clan describe their site Wooda Farm Holiday Park on the Devon/Cornwall border, which will probably sound pretty perfect to people who dither between both as a location for their hols.

Wooda is a park for families and couples, run by the Colwills since 1975, with lush views of the Cornish coastline and the countryside, and loads to do for days on site, like a fishing lake, pitch and putt, a sports barn with fitness suite and badminton, and activities like archery and tennis in school holidays.

Want to take things a tad more easily? Wander and wildlife watch around Wooda Farm's 40 acres of parkland or take a book to the park gardens.

The kids will likely want to meet the four pygmy goats, chickens and lambs that live on the farm, and when (if) they finally tire of that, they can go and look for pixies among the woodland paths and nature trails or hang out in the games and TV room. For the under-fives, bouncing around the specially designated toddlers' play room with Wendy house, slide, bean bags, ride on toys and a new soft play area should be a bit of a hit.

The Wooda Farm amenities – three shower and toilet blocks with hairdryers and sockets, disabled facilities, undercover dishwashing sinks, campers' kitchen and a washing point for wetsuits – are excellently maintained, and the park also has a well-stocked licensed shop, a launderette and wifi.

Plenty of picks for food are on hand too, with home-cooked meals (and plenty of picks for beer and wine) in the Courtyard bar and takeaway food in the Lodge.

Bringing the pooch? There's even a special shower for mucky pups who've been running around the extensive dog walking area.

Great location with lovely view over country side with access to the coastal path and other local foot paths. This site is well care for and the facilties are first class. We liked the on-site take away (we had fish and chips) and the courtyard bar/grill. We enjoyed the nature walk as well as the pitch and putt course. This is one of the best sites we have stayed on.

From the manager...

Thank you for your recent review of your stay here at Wooda Farm and it was lovely to read that you enjoyed your time here and all the facilities that we have to offer.

Apologies that you were disturbed at 7am, this was probably due to the neighbouring farmer cutting the grass in his field as the ground staff at Wooda do not start their shift at this time. We are sorry though that this causes you inconvenience during your stay.

We hope to welcome you back in the future.

Kind regards

    Clean site, great facilities, quiet.
The showers were bigger than all the other sites I have stayed on, so showering at the same time as my son was not a challenge. Showers were also lovely and warm, no matter what time of day & I never had to queue for one, even at peak times!

    Staff were friendly & efficient.

A Short drive to the beaches in the local town & further up the coast.

Apologies that you had a problem with the Wi-Fi during your stay. We offer free Wi-Fi for general use and there are several masts around the Park, but also a code can be purchased from reception should the free Wi-Fi not be adequate for your needs.

Check out is 10.30am which allows us to prepare the pitch for the next arrival, although you can request a late check out of 6pm for a small charge.

Directions

From the M5 at Exeter, take the A30 towards Okehampton. Just past Okehampton at the top of a long hill, take the slip road signposted to Bude and follow signs to the A3072. On reaching a T-junction with the A39 at Stratton, turn right and follow the A39 for 100 metres then turn left. After 1 mile, there is a crossroads near the village of Poughill (pronounced ‘Poffle’) - carry straight on and Wooda Farm Park is 100 metres further on, on the right.

Alternatively, leave the M5 at Junction 27 and follow the North Devon Link Road to Barnstaple and Bideford. On the A39, pass through Kilkhampton and after 4 miles you will see a filling station on the right. Take the next right. Drive for 1 mile past the crossroads and Wooda Farm Park is 100 metres further on, on the right.

Note: Google Maps and satnavs are not always correct; if you are following the instructions travelling south on the A39 (from Barnstaple), please avoid Stone Hill and continue on the A39 south until you see the signs for Wooda.

Local attractions

Wooda Farm Holiday Park's location on the Devon/Cornwall border means it's in prime location for exploring the best of both counties, from the surfing and rockpooling beaches around Bude a mile and a half away, to seaside towns and villages like Boscastle and Clovelly, both 15 miles away.

Take to the surf at Bude's Crooklets Beach (the Wooda Farm team can arrange surf lessons nearby or canoeing on Bude's canal), Widemouth Bay within three miles and Crackington Haven eight miles away from Bude. For families, Bude's sandy Summerleaze Beach or the rockpools of Northcott Mouth are top picks; dogs are allowed at both.

If you fancy a walk, it's ten miles along the South West Coast Path from Bude Canal to Crackington Haven – look out for Dartmoor tors at the Tower of the Winds storm tower – and from there further south to Boscastle, Tintagel and Port Isaac. Too tough? Turn left outside the park for the three-mile walk via Poughill village and a cream tea.

Within 20–50 minutes' drive south along the coast, explorers will reach day trips' worth of seaside towns, like Tintagel and its castle within 25 minutes and the fourteenth century fishing village Port Isaac 40 minutes away.

Rick Stein's seafood restaurants at Padstow, the start of the Camel Trail at Wadebridge and the Camel Estuary village of Rock are all 50 minutes away.
