  • Family and couples' site on the Devon/Cornwall border
  • A mile and a half from Bude and its beaches
  • Golf, sports barn, farmyard animals and nature trails
'In the countryside, by the sea' is how the Colwill clan describe their site Wooda Farm Holiday Park on the Devon/Cornwall border, which will sound pretty perfect to those who sometimes dither between both as a location for their holiday… Wooda is a park for families and couples, run by the Colwills since 1975, with lush views of the Cornish coastline and the countryside, and loads to do for time spent on site, like pitch and putt, a sports barn with fitness suite and badminton, and activities like archery and tennis in school holidays. Want to take things a tad more easily? Wander and wildlife watch around Wooda Farm's 40 acres of parkland or take a book to the park gardens. The kids will likely want to meet the four pygmy goats, chickens and lambs that live on the farm, and when (if) they finally tire of that, they can roam among the woodland paths and nature trails or hang out in the games and TV room. For the under-fives, bouncing around the toddlers' playroom (with Wendy house, slide, bean bags, ride-on toys and a new soft play area) should be a bit of a hit. The Wooda Farm amenities – three shower and toilet blocks with hairdryers and sockets, disabled facilities, undercover dishwashing sinks, campers' kitchen and a washing point for wetsuits – are excellently maintained, and the park also has a well-stocked licensed shop, a launderette and wifi. Plenty of picks for food are on hand too, with home-cooked meals (and plenty of picks for beer and wine) on hand in The Yard – Coffee, Bar & Kitchen. This is alongside a variety of local pop-up food vans that attend on various evenings and takeaway food in The Lodge. Bringing the pooch? There's even a special shower for mucky pups who've been running around the extensive dog walking area.

Electric grass pitch

Liked Before we arrived, I rang to ask if we could be away from the children's play area and families with young children. This was purely because we are wardens ourselves and enjoy a bit of peace and quiet when we're away. We were told that pitch E102 would be ideal.
When we arrived, the self check-in process was perfect. There was no queuing - we drove straight in, found our pitch and got parked up.
On each side of us was a caravan, which provided a nice bit of protection from the wind if we needed it. However, my only real issue was the size of the pitch. It was much smaller than we're used to, but we made it work by parking in front of our tent. The caravan next to us had parked right up to the boundary line, although there was plenty of space on the other side of their caravan where they could have parked instead.
After walking around the site, we found it to be very clean and well looked after. The walk to the alpacas was enjoyable too, especially as we found lots of little fairy displays along the way.
For anyone who hasn't visited before, the site is quite hilly. The pitch and putt is on a hillside, and the walk down to the bar is downhill. This wasn't an issue for us, but it's worth knowing if you have any mobility concerns.
The bathroom facilities were spotless and looked fantastic. The showers have a 13-15 second push button, which I'm personally never a fan of, but being able to adjust the water temperature was definitely a bonus.
On our first night, we had fish and chips from the front takeaway. The fish was nice, but we weren't keen on the hollow battered chips.
On the second night, we had a couple of jacket potatoes from the Spud Lady, which were lovely. We were able to take our food over to The Yard, enjoy a pint and wait for bingo to start.
Friday night was quiz night. We found it difficult to hear the quiz clearly from the upper seating area, so we moved downstairs for bingo instead, where the sound was much better.
Overall, I'm not sure we would revisit because there isn't a great deal to do in the surrounding area unless you have children or the weather is good enough for the beaches. However, the park itself is lovely, clean and well maintained, and all the staff we met were friendly, polite and very helpful

Liked Very clean and well kept site with good options for food, drinks and entertainment.
Well stocked onsite shop.
Excellent modern facilities with good showers and toilets.

Disliked It is a big site and I would assume that it will get very busy during peak season. So might feel a bit crowded.

Liked We stayed for 6 nights and we had a lovely stay. Gorgeous campsite and our pitch was very easy to locate and I checked in via my phone which was good. The toilets are very very nice and were cleaned very regularly. The onsite shop and caravan shop were both very useful. Very much enjoyed seeing the animals on site as well. Me and my partner visit Bude every year so we will definitely be coming back.
Thank you for such a lovely stay.

Liked Absolutely chuffed to bits about choosing this place.
Needed to have a gym! I'm on a bit of a quest - it had enough to keep me busy and was never full. In fact, it was usually just me in there.
Facilities were superb.
Location was amazing.
Staff were excellent.
Whole place was immaculate.
We had amazing weather for our 8 day stay.
We stayed in my camper with a gazebo, electric pitch on grass. Loads of other options to stay here including some amazing Pods.
This is definitely going to be hard to beat!!

Liked How clean the whole park was ,toilets and showers were the best iv ever visited and the landscape was beautiful, location was perfect for visiting other coastal areas and staff on the site were all A1 , will definitely be returning

Disliked One morning we got up to no water , and that was for some hours , and so we had to go out for the day without showering,& then three days later we had a storm which kept knocking all our electricity out , apart from that all good

From the manager: Dear Simon,

Thank you for your review, we are pleased you enjoyed your stay with us. I will pass your compliments onto the rest of the team. We are glad you enjoyed the location of the park and it sounds like you made the most of exploring the other beautiful place around.

Regarding the water and electric, it was really bad luck that both utilities went whilst you were here. Both issues was from a wider scale area, we had to wait for other services to fix the problem. The electric was triggered by the thunder storms we had, which unfortunately is out of our control.

We hope to welcome you again and fingers crossed for better weather if you do.
