What customers say

This campsite is praised for its clean facilities, including spacious showers and well-maintained toilets, alongside helpful staff and a quiet, peaceful atmosphere. Pitches are well-defined and spacious, with many appreciating the natural surroundings and convenient amenities like a shared kitchen area. Its location is highlighted as excellent, offering easy access to nearby beaches and pubs. While most reviews are positive, a few guests noted traffic noise and some experienced issues with portaloos, though these were not universal.

Non-electric grass pitch

Liked We had a great holiday at Woodpecker camping site. The facilities were really good & kept very clean. Loved that the beach was just a short walk. Also loved the wonderful Bangers cafe just by the campsite entrance. There were lots of local attractions to visit. We walked along the coast for a nice day out in Littlehampton & got the bus back. Loved Arundel Castle and the Arundel Wetland Centre-both great days out. There were also 2 really nice local pubs a short walk from the campsite.

Disliked Nothing!

South field electric grass pitch

Liked Loved this site will be visiting again we liked the bus stop wasn't to far to walk to,we didn't meet the staff

Disliked It would of been nice if one of the shower with toilet had a disabled shower seat and rails to grip in the shower and toilet as my husband isn't steady on his feet but other than that nice little site

From the manager: Thank you for review, as I advised at the time, there is no charge for your friend's van parking there all day to visit you,
I just needed to know about it and how many people/vehicles were in the Camping Field for safety and security reasons. Glad all went well,

South field electric grass pitch

Liked Alison was very helpful and a fantastic campsite owner. There were many noticeable thoughtful touches to make staying at Woodpeckers a pleasant experience. Lots of signs and information.
Shower facilities were very good, especially with young kids.
We liked the size of the campsite, not too big but a nice atmosphere.
Well defined and separated pitches.

Disliked Main shower block/facilities were a bit of a walk from the edge of the south field.
Portaloos were a bit smelly by the end of the bank holiday weekend.
The only thing that would be the icing on the cake for us would have been a small play park.

Recommend to friends Visit again

From the manager: Dear Daniel,
thank you for your review, I am pleased that you enjoyed your stay overall and will consider your feedback regarding gate and play area.

I am unsure of how to solve the portaloo question other than removing them from the field and then everyone will have to walk to the toilet/shower block, which as you say is a short walk away from some parts of the Field.
It simply is not practical to arrange for them to be emptied during any weekend, especially a bank holiday weekend. None of them were actually full, but the combination of plastic tank, warm temperatures etc will make them smelly. I do put in additional chemical during such weekends, but overall they are what they are.
If no one used them then of course I could remove them, but they do get used, so must be a convenience for guests overall.
kind regards, Alison

Not bad for short stays but traffic noise and loos would get me down.

Non-electric grass pitch

Liked Relaxed atmosphere; that there was a noise cut off on the site (10.30).
Roomy pitches
Friendly owner

Disliked Portaloos- not the freshest...
Our pitch had several tent pegs stuck in the ground - not good for tyres or my big toe when I stubbed it on one. Impossible to pull out by hand
Road noise bad
Kitchen/ washing area was some distance away

Recommend to friends Visit again

From the manager: Thank you for your review, I agree portloo's are not the freshest as they are what they are,
Unfortunately you stayed on a Thursday before the bank holiday and the portaloo empty guy came to empty and clean them on the Friday. They were not full and never be without an aroma. As I have noted in previous answers to review comments - These type of chemical toilets do have an aroma, but are only there for guests convenience.

I did not know that the tent pegs had been left, so apologise for your toe stubbing.
I removed them as soon as I saw your review.

On reflection, I could have moved you to another pitch further away from them on the day that you stayed. I know there will not be a next time here, but it is worth asking any campsite manager if you can stay on a different pitch. Then your stay could have been a bit better.
kind regards,
Alison

Non-electric grass pitch

Liked Well organised and connected camp site, easy to access by car, bus or bike. Kept as natural and sustainable as possible.
Great location, clean water supplied, some pitches have electric points.
There’s a common BBQ area if anyone wants to use it.
Main shower rooms have a toilet, all super clean and supplied with toilet roll and clean bath mat at all times. In addition there are well situated portaloos around the camp.

Very friendly and helpful owner who looks after the site & the campers.

This is an exceptional camp site at a very affordable price!
Super close to the beach and a short walk to Littlehampton via public footpath as well! Ideal for adventures on a bike too.
There is also a Cafe next to the camp opened full on breakfast or lunch which is handy. Plus a pub near by.
We loved our stay there, felt safe and recommend throughly.

South field electric grass pitch

Liked Good location and peaceful. Facilities basic but clean. Plenty of space on pitch

Disliked Chemical disposal right on ther side of site...not really an issue though

Recommend to friends Visit again

From the manager: Dear Robert,
thank you for your review,
I am a bit confused by your dislike of the chemical disposal being on the side of the site. It is located at the Northernmost end of the site by the road, near the gate, far away from any pitches and surrounded by a wooden fence. No one can see the tank, only the fence until you are close to it to be able to discharge your waste. It is positioned so as to be easy to access by any motorhome or caravan and needs to be on the actual site. Also this location ensures that the large tanker which comes to regularly empty it can reverse safely onto the site to access it as well.
Not sure where you would recommend that I move it to if such a relocation were possible ??
I also note that you think this is "not really an issue" so why mention it without a positive observation of where it could be placed instead ?
kind regards,
Alison

South field electric grass pitch

Liked For the price it was definitely not value for money and how they can justify 10 pounds per night for electric is beyond me.

Disliked The toilets were the plastic ones you get at festivals I would have rather gone in the woods. The toilet disposal was a cesspit which stank.

Recommend to friends Visit again

From the manager: I have given your rather shocking review some thought and conclude that it is actually a positive review overall as I prefer guests to know what it is like here before they book, so that they can make an informed decision before coming to stay and avoid being disappointed.
I do think that you had something else unhappily going on in your own background which was nothing to do with my Camping Field as you found everything a bit of a challenge, from booking, to finding the Field to checking in etc. I tried to help you, but was not able to.
The chemical portaloos are what they are and I am surprised that you even needed to go near them as you had a lovely caravan with your own toilet inside, there was no need to relieve yourself in the woods which is a far more unsavoury thing to do. Luckily I don't have any woods on my Camping Field.

You used the disposal tank to empty your toilet waste into. Yes, it is a large plastic tank which in these high temperatures will emit a smell when you open the lid.

Surprised that you did not realise the electric charge was £10 per night - there are 2 pitch prices, EHU and standard without EHU - these have a £10 difference.

I don't think you actually visited the toilet shower block at all, so just to say that flushing toilets and shower rooms with underfloor heating are also available in addition to the chemical portaloos for night time convenience.

I am actually sad that you and your partner did not enjoy your stay here, but at least you now know to avoid any other sites with portaloos and disposal tanks.
kind regards, Alison

Local attractions

The closest beach is Climping, a 20-minute walk or a few minutes’ drive from the site. It’s a top spot for families for its shallow swimming, and is also popular with windsurfers and kitesurfers, with grass areas for setting up. Also within easy reach is Littlehampton (five minutes’ drive or 10 by the Coastliner bus), home to the family-friendly East beach and its free to use barbecues. Just beside the beach is Harbour Park, an amusement and funfair centre with free entry, rides and indoor play; for a quieter time, hire a bike for a ride along the promenade. If you’re around in summer, a Littlehampton must-do is the ferry ride over to West beach, a Local Nature Reserve. Next up, Bognor Regis (10 minutes’ drive or 25 by bus), for a day at the Marine Park Gardens and boating on the lake, riding the miniature railway, putting on the 18-hole green and having a picnic under the trees. (There are beaches here too – do make time for some sandy hours as well…). Inland, Arundel is 10 minutes’ drive from the site and Amberley 15.
