Peaceful site in the sussex weald

  • Quiet family-friendly site on a smallholding in the High Weald
  • Ardingly Reservoir 15 minutes’ drive; Brighton half an hour
  • Firepits, communal kitchen and picnic benches; freshly laid eggs sold
Looking for a site where you can take long strolls with your dog and maybe let the kids interact with farmyard animals? Deaks Acres, a five-minute drive from the West Sussex village of Cuckfield, might just be the place for you. Just on the edge of the High Weald National Landscape, this family-friendly site is part of a smallholding with goats, horses and geese, so there’s always a furry (or feathered) creature nearby for your kids to pet or help feed. Well-behaved dogs are welcome, but they must be kept on a lead. Each pitch has its own firepit for cosy campfire evenings; if you’re in the mood for making new friends, there's also an area around a large bonfire for guests to gather and socialise. For a fabulous breakfast, you surely can't beat scrambled eggs made with eggs from the resident hens. The communal field kitchen is the place to cook these – it's also got a barbecue and a washing-up area. Wash the food down with some sparkling English wine from the vineyard next door; guests get a discount (just ask Karen). For other provisions, the petrol station just across the roundabout on the A272 (10 minutes’ walk) has a small shop, and Haywards Heath (five minutes’ drive) has several supermarkets. Of course, you might opt for a cooked meal from a traditional pub, of which there are several in Cuckfield. There are heaps of walks and bridleways to explore directly from the site, or you can drive to Ardingly Reservoir (15 minutes) for a waterside trail, an activity centre with paddleboards and kayaks, and a dog park you can hire by the half-hour to let your canine buddy run free. For a day at the beach, Brighton is a half hour’s drive away.

This is a well-regarded campsite, praised for its friendly and helpful owners, its peaceful atmosphere, and its abundance of farm animals that children particularly enjoy. Pitches are spacious and well-equipped with picnic benches and fire pits. Facilities, including toilets and showers, are consistently described as clean and well-maintained. Non-electric grass tent pitch

Liked Great place to stay!! Every pitch has a table and bench to eat at and a fire pit. Bathrooms and kitchen facilities immaculately clean. Karen the host, super friendly and very helpful.

Disliked The shower is either very cold or very hot, somewhere in the middle would be great. This was my only downside.

Liked Relaxing and spacious camp site, walkable to a woodland walk and loved seeing the animals. Karen and her husband were incredibly helpful and friendly, taking good care of guests: firewood and fresh eggs available in an honor system and facilities are kept incredibly clean. Would recommend and look forward to visiting again

Non-electric grass tent pitch

Liked A small, peaceful campsite with basic but nice facilities. 2 showers, 2 toilets and a washing up area, which were regularly cleaned. Each pitch has its own picnic bench and fire pit. Firewood, eggs and marshmallows to purchase if you want. Farm animals and play equipment/ games to occupy the kids. Karen was so friendly and laid-back- the perfect host!

Disliked Nothing from our visit! If all pitches occupied it would feel very busy with not that much space between groups. If you're not a fan of hearing farm animals early in the morning, this maybe isn't for you, but it didn't bother us.

Recommend to friends Visit again

From the manager: Thankyou for your review it was lovely to meet all of you ,kind regards karen xx
