What customers say

This is a highly recommended wild camping site with a beautiful, remote location offering stunning views and tranquility. Guests consistently praise the friendly and helpful host, Rachel, and the spacious, well-maintained pitches. Facilities, primarily portaloos, are noted for their cleanliness. The site is ideal for nature lovers and walkers, with excellent access to the South Downs. The approach road can be bumpy but is manageable with care. There are few on-site amenities, reinforcing the "back to basics" wild camping experience.

Non-electric grass tent or motorhome pitch

Liked Beautiful location, lovely peaceful site. Rachael was very helpful and welcoming. The facilities are basic as stated, but very clean. The site has great access to walks in all directions, including South Downs Way and West Sussex Literary Trail with a good selection of pubs nearby. We walked to The Cricketers in Duncton (long uphill walk coming back), the Star and Garter in East Dean, and the Milkshake bar at Ides Barn Dairy. Brilliant for stargazing on a clear night. The photos don't do it justice, we will definitely be back!

Disliked There was nothing we disliked, but the mobile reception is patchy onsite, so worth downloading maps/information before going.

The Cosy Cocoon camping pod (two person)

Liked Such a cute pod and a lovely campsite. Rachel was amazing, so friendly and welcoming. The site is clean, the toilets the cleanest portaloos to ever exist and I couldn’t believe how quiet it was!! I had the best nights sleep in that little pod.

Disliked Nothing really, I wasn’t even bothered by the lack of showers. It’s fine for one night, I might of struggled for longer without shower facilities

Non-electric grass tent or motorhome pitch

Liked The wilderness! And the night sky full of stars was amazing. Feels like you are miles from anywhere but only 20 mins to Goodwood.
Rachel was welcoming and helpful.

Disliked Nothing.

Non-electric grass tent or motorhome pitch

Liked Being able to pick our own area in the field to camp and the relaxed nature of the campsite. The drinking water tap was so helpful considering we forgot to bring enough water to see us through our stay.
Our two dogs joined us for their first camping trip and we were relieved that each pitch was a generous size, so no hassle to give the dogs space to roam about on their long leads which we tethered into the ground.
The site manager Rachel is around regularly if you need her and is a lovely person. We’re looking forward to returning!

Non-electric grass tent or motorhome pitch

Liked The site was peaceful, with a pretty view. Felt v special coming arriving as you come through a field of cows. Lovely sunset and the owner was very welcoming and helpful. Chemical toilet was regularly checked and plenty of toilet roll! Water tap too. We enjoyed our stay, romantic for couples but also super for families, children looked like they were having a wonderful time playing. Back to nature site…hardly any phone signal which meant an escape from screen time.

Disliked Maybe the hire of the fire pit could have been more reasonably priced?

Non-electric grass tent or motorhome pitch

Liked Beautiful site with lovely views very quite, and large pitches.

Disliked Facilities are very basic, I know it’s wild camping but they are charging the same price as many sites offering much better facilities and not even providing a waste pint to empty own portals. Perhaps a few more water taps around the site and improved toilet block/shower?
Dogs dogs and more dogs watch out for dogs Pooh!

Non-electric grass tent or motorhome pitch

Liked Stunning location with a really relaxed feel to the site. We had plenty of space for tents, BBQs and the kids and dogs to run around in. It was perfect for us as a larger group with a mix of people and needs, including some first time campers and young childern. There were so many footpaths from the site up onto the downs to explore and some very friendly cows as neighbours. It felt like we were in a completely new place despite only being a few miles from home.

The site had a nice mix of different groups without feeling crowded or too busy. The portaloos were all clean and enough that you never had to wait. I think not having showers meant you got a very different type of camper to some of the more commercial sites, which was perfect for us. The site owners were friendly and present. A really lovely site and definitely one we will be returning to!

Disliked It is a very long road in but I think that adds to the magic of the site.

Local attractions

A stay at Newhouse Farm puts you in pole position for the numerous festivals at Goodwood Estate, but the campsite is just as close to the fascinating Weald and Downland Living Museum (both 10 minutes’ drive), with its carefully restored historic farmhouses and half-timbered cottages. Chichester (25 minutes) is another cultural hotspot with a Gothic-era cathedral and events at the acclaimed Festival Theatre. Equally unmissable is the verdant West Dean Gardens (15 minutes), with its fabulous display of informal plantings, pretty waterside walks and Victorian glasshouses. There’s a stellar collection of Old Master paintings and ornate suites of rooms filled with priceless treasures at National Trust-owned Petworth House and Park, or you can step further back in time at Fishbourne Roman Palace (both 25 minutes) to see decorative mosaics in a life-size mock-up of an ancient Roman villa. If the kids want their day at the beach, choose between the sand-and-shingle expanse backed by cafés and amusement arcades at Bognor Regis or walk the dogs along the quiet sands at West Wittering (40 minutes).
